Bavarian
You Brits just don't know how good You have it. Compare the Sky Sports Speedway crew with those employed in Polish TV or Swedish or Danish, and You will see how good Yours are. They are passionate, usually know what they are talking about, and often funny to listen to (Tatum and the mole) and Charlie Webster is my personal favorite. She is so cute and lovely. My kind of a girl, really! She makes my day!
shazzybird
Although it do look like had just been crying after we lost!! So tell me – how many female sports presenters are there out there with a substantial knowledge of speedway. There are very few I suspect. Give her a break Crying ..... probably a bit of glitter from her eyeliner in the tearduct hun Female Sports Presenter ...... You've not met Rainbow have you? Bryn what's Rainbow like with interviews Failing that a good male presenter .... awwww that'd be Shane Childs If she reads the forum.....keep up the good work She might not read the forum but Nigel Pearson was very complimentry on a facebook status the other day about his threads ...... not and what he called speedway fans was no ones business!!!! So by that token, you agree with me that Nigel Pearson needs to go too? he does not spwak, he shouts most of the time. Yep most of the time but I have to admit he hasn't this week as much, I could actually understand what was being said as both him and Sir Kelv were quieter! Imagine going into a sport with no knowledge and having to pick it up this quick. Yeah imagine how many other sports have interviewers that no bugger all about the sport they are presenting! Just because we are not the most popular sport why do we have to have the amateurs and train them up only for them to disappear! There are plenty of ex-riders that could do just a good job. Well, at least she doesn't think Schlein rides for Sweden, or was it just me that heard that? I heard that! Thought I'd had one too many Wkds lol Can anyone remember back to when Sophie first started. Did she receive this much stick. God yes!!!!! not from the Page 3 fans though I might add! Van Helsing
I think she is doing a great job. She has actively went out her way to learn all about the sport. She obviously reads the SpeedwayStar as she can pull out some facts about rider's performances during the week in other places, injuries etc Plus she can pronounce the foreign riders names!. She has a good rapport with the riders and manages to ask the right questions at the right time, giving the rider a chance to reply and give as an insight into behind the scenes. Even though she looked like a duck out of water in her first few meetings. She quickly picked it up and is now doing a great job! Sky have actually done pretty well with the last two presenters. Both have been knowledgable about the sport, asked the right questions and were easy on the eye All the critics on here never change ... must take a hell of a lot to please you! spook
yeah spot on VH I was actually very suprised to see that she was anchoring the meeting last night as it usually takes sky a long time to trust presenters who dont normally do it attractive girl, positive attitude, personable, still learning her trade.... and I should imagine not paid a fortune
davidba
Must admit i'm generally impressed, she seems to be making a big effort to learn the in's and outs and is very enthusiastic, though i wish Sky woldn't insist on quite so many post race interviews, there's only so much that can be said about even the best of races! When i got to Ipswich very early before the sky match, she was working very hard studying the programme, speedway star and some other papers, though what impressed me the most was the beaming smile she gave me when i walked past!! BTW my wife is convinced there is sexual chemistry going on between her and a certain Danish rider?? I obviously can't tell me wife that Charlie's actually smitten with me!!! Fingersfin
Just became a follower of Charlies on twitter (why not she is easy on the eye ) Are there any speedway riders on twitter who have something interesting to say? Other than the 110% guff which gets right on my wick! Edited July 17, 2009 by Fingersfin

HenryW
Answering just the title of the thread...NO. If you think Charlie is the worst ever, you have clearly forgotten about Jane Omorogbe. Personally I think that Charlie, after a shaky start, is actually one of the best, if not THE best, that Sky have used.

daveccm
Spot on So she knows nothing about speedway? She fooled me then. I thought she was an enthusiast who was just no good But I've had a complete change of mind about her. I remember hearing the BBC sports correspondant Gary Richardson a few years ago thinking he was a shallow career broadcaster. Perhaps the interviewees felt the same but he would then fire in a hard hitting question - while sounding dumb. I wonder if Charlie is doing the same. She sounds dumb-IMHO- but she's been the only interviewer I can remember who will ask the questions that scream out to be asked. But please - slow down the delivery. And drop the voice a few tones

Personally I think that Charlie, after a shaky start, is actually one of the best, if not THE best, that Sky have used. I think Charlie is doing a good job. If she did come to the job knowing nothing about any thing about speedway then she is learning well. It's not an easy job to interview riders straight off the track. As for being the best Sky have used, I think she has a long way to go before she's as good as Suzi.
LNORTRE
I wish she would learn some other saying ( how important is it ) I could scream every time she say it. Yes we all now to win heats or to win the race or to win the meeting is important.

gary moore
It's you. Get a grip, she's the most knowledgeable and easy-going presenter for years. What is the point of your post? Its an opinion cant you understand that??? Oh, and this is a forum!!!
Star Lady
I thought she did an excellent job tonight, filling in for nearly an hour live without a script when she knew that we knew there wasn't a hope of the meeting going ahead. She even managed to stop Tatum mentioning Moley
