Swc - The Race Off

Recommended Posts

See the usual whiners are at it again.

Gutted we were so near, yet so far....But very very PROUD of Team GB, young AND Old.

Just waiting for the Nicholls bashing to start on here as well, its already got yet another thread started on this section.... some people need to grow up...!!

Agreed.Would have been a hard decision with Lewis if GB had have made the Final. But the kids have to learn from this one.I must say Lee came over extremely well during this competition and his words about Scott were fantastic i thought

I'd say,the only criticism and it is small....is that Rob seemed to be unsure about the start gate positions and Stekkers was the one leading the protest. But i am sure he will learn from that and has to be a bit more forcefull.....

Bridger and King were as abject as expected and Lyon's ridiculous policy cost us a final place.

You know that for certain do you? Personally I would rather see a team of riders working together, and for each other long term than a team of loose canons. Hopefuly this policy will offer more long term than this week.

Bongo not sure you can be burned out after one meeting, For all of the disapointment etched on Bridgers face the experience should stand him on good grounding for the future, he should have learnt a lot tonight as should have Danny King. As for bringing in Eddie,as a bees fan I have to say he really did not deserve to be there after his performance on an English track, Eddie needs to get a team place in Poland as he struggles on big tracks.

That's Rob's long term plan.

It's a pity some fans are so short sighted.

Well done to the lads, absolutely brilliant effort guy's.

The only criticism I have is of Rob Lyons. In my opinion, he is short sighted and not a particularly good manager not to have recognised that an away meeting in Lesno requires some balance of experience with youth. I absolutely agree with Lyons that to input some youth to the mix is good and indeed, it payed off at Peterborough on Monday night, but to ask so much of both Woofy and King was simply a lack of understanding of how to motivate young up and coming stars so that you don't end up burning them out. This is the same in any sport, football, tennis, rugby etc.

I said before that if Scotty Nicholls or Edward Kennett had been brought in for their experience, then this was the way forward... I think the decision that Lyons should have made was either Scott or Eddie in for Either Woofy or Danny...

...End of!

Exactly, hopefully the BSPA will have finally realised that there is a difference between chequebook PL speedway and the World Cup.

Totally agreed! I just wish there was more international team events!

A mix of experience and youth was required. Nights like tonight could destroy any confidence the likes of King and Bridger have. Utilising Woffinden is enough to give youth it's head on nights like tonight.

Test Matches are the place to blood a large collection of youngsters, not World Cups!

Lyon and the BSPA should get off their asses and arrange some Tests and use grass roots to develop youngsters. World Cups is where the big boys play and have wee bairns for breakfast, like tonight!

Lyon came across as a cat in the headlights , particularly in the gate position fiasco.

Only one problem with your rant, the young ones are our future and have to be blooded, along side some experienced riders in the team, how else are they to gain that experience without riding?

Give the youngsters a chance eh before hang, drawing and quatering them

I totally agree......................you have to give the youngsters a chance as they are the future...................and based on the fact that there have been very few good GB riders over the past few years I think that Rob Lyon did exactly the right thing................

As for Nicholls not riding or being there................what ever the reason was we shall probably never know but there is no need to keep knocking him because he wasn't selected.....................I am not a fan of his but I would never slate anyone.................

Oh dear, really no need for name calling, that should be left in the playground.

He's got the GB team acting as a team and not as individual riders. Win as a team, lose as a team.

If you thought we would have gone further than we did tonight with the riders Rob has at hand then I pity you

Well done team GB, very proud of you all.

I went from jumping around the living room to biting my fingernails to the wick to nearly greeting . It was a magnificent effort and we should be proud of Rob and the lads . Can't wait till next year now .

Gutted for the GB boys, put everything in2 2nite & just fell short.

Hindsight says Nicholls should have been in for Bridger as he wasnt the best at Peterborough either whereas King was but we'll never know. Nicholls of the last few seasons & yes we'd have made it but i watch the Polish League meetings every sunday online & 2 be honest Scotty has consistantly been getting 1 or 2 only for Wroclaw in their league racing & was actually dropped by them the other week for a couple of meetings for Travis McGowan i think it was so feel Rob Lyon was justified in keeping Bridger in for 2nite.

felt for the lad as if he hadnt packed in early doors i dont think he'd have touched the tapes as he got more anxious for points because of it. Been impressed with him this season & i'm sure he'll bounce back next yr.

Whatever people say about Nicholls, if we got him back on form with Rico & Bomber spearheading the side i think we'd have a good looking outfit. Throw in Tai, Bridger etc with another yrs EL & Polish League experience & i think next couple of yrs we might have a good go at it.

Cant fault the effort though & turning point was Lindback finding a flying machine from somewhere after looking like a novice early doors!!

I am so proud of our boys tonight.

There wasn't anyone out there that thought we'd get so close, including myself.

It is gutting that we came so near, yet so far to the final but those young boys have learnt a hell of alot tonight.

To Rob Lyon: Build,Build, Build.

Well done boys you did your country proud.

What were his words about Scott?

Saying that you don't become a bad rider overnight and he was sure Scott will recover his form.....and return to the team.i thought that was very good from Lee to even mention Scott

I'm bloody proud of Team GB for their efforts tonight and on Monday. That's something I haven't been able to say for the last few years.

Finally we actually have a TEAM, not a load of disinterested individuals.

Well done to each and every one of them, riders, managers, advisors, mechanics and anyone else that helped in the slightest.

OK we didn't qualify but only idiots would have expected us to at the start of July anyway.

Harris showed he can be a great captain, Richardson really impressed me tonight (and he's a rider I really don't have a lot of time for normally) but he wore his heart on his sleeve, used his head and chivvied the others along. Woofy had a stormer and rode well above his level IMHO. King didn't disgrace himself at all in my eyes and surely will have learnt a lot. Felt sorry for Bridger, made one mistake and really didn't get the chance after that to make amends. Kennett too was there chipping in.

The benefits will come next year but meanwhile we have a TEAM we can be proud of.

After being down in the hole for most of the meeting, I must admit I'm chocked that Sweden actually made it through in the end after such a sub-par performence from several riders. At least we enter the final as underdogs, that's normally a good things for Swedish teams (in all kinds of sports).

We won't see the benefit of Lyons strategy immediately, particularly with the younger riders, but at least it's a forward looking plan. Anyway it was a million times better than the abysmal showing of last year with Scott in a team that had no clue, no spirit and no chance. I have no axe to grind as far as Scott Nicholls is concerned. He has been a great captain for the team I support but at international level he comes with some baggage and is definitely not the future (a bit like a Pommy Ryan Sullivan it appears).

Richardson was a breath of fresh air. Surely another chance at GP level sooner rather than later. Harris was all Land of Hope and Glory but lacking the class of a real top flight GP star. Woffinden was the one who seemed to make the most of his chance.

Hope the youngsters get another chance. If it is to be a worthwhile strategy then it can't be just a one off. Surely the BSPA can arrange an international or two? Perhaps on a Sundat when the GPs are on as most of the British riders aren't involved.

There's a world of difference from scoring 9 from 6 on a track you were virtually brought up on and foreign conditions.

As poor as he's been this year, Nicholls' experience would have been beneficial tonight and probably earned us a final place.
