screm
...... and it didn't disappoint Pretty rubbish meeting in my opinion ..... the final had ONE pass I remember during the whole twelve heats ..... One or two entertaining riders including Ryan Fisher, Steve Johnston and Robert Mear in the last qualifying heat. Rye deserved nothing, being the only one of the eight teams who didn't win a single heat!! I'm not going into the home advantage debate, that's been done to death and will sound like sour grapes, the Rockets wouldn't have won it on any track except our own anyway..... Seems pretty obvious that when a home team has one of the biggest advantages in ANY sport that neutral tracks are the answer. I was warned that the back straight at Worky had a reputation, but it turned out do be ten or twelve beered up young lads singing a few songs, pretty sad lot really ..... My theory that because they have no decent football teams to support they use the speedway as a Saturday evening excuse to let off steam ..... My guess is you'll NEVER see them at an away meeting ..... I was told they were much quieter this time, may have been something to do with them being surrounded by Monarchs fans ....cowards And you survived the trip on the Berwick supporters bus. Fans want it and surely cannot be too hard to fit in another meeting per track for a Round which brings in good support? With 14 teams you would need 2 x 5 groups and 1 x 4 with one team missing a round at each of the groups of five. Three teams go through as winners and the best overall runner up. How about: GROUP A Berwick, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Newcastle, Redcar GROUP B Workington, Stoke, Birmingham, Sheffield, Scunthorpe GROUP C Newport, Rye House, Somerset, King's Lynn Groups can be open to discussion? Sorry Ellesmere Gunner but your idea is far to sensible for it ever to see the light of day. The qualifier meetings was always well supported in the north,it used to be Edinburgh,Berwick, and then Glasgow and Newcastle on the same day in some years. topaz325
Yes heard all the hometrack advantage a million times before................ and will hear it all again. Some good races last night, especially from Clews, Gathercole and Makovsky. Thought the Stoney exclusion was wrong from where i was watching (second bend) but the ref might have had a better view? The Fish rode quite well but the track staff are still looking for his dummy at DP. Far from a rubbish meeting that Shadders thought it was.............. Compo, Doolan,Rymel and Lawson were fantastic!

Come on... Take off the blinkered Blue and White glasses ... In the majority of races, there was no bloody racing... Pure and utter dross You would not have had the ease you did last night on a neutral track! There were as you say though a couple of crackers, particularly from our boys Michal and Clewsy... and dare I say this, even Fisher Didn't quite see what happened with the Stoney exclusion... Looked close to call... Cost Redcar a place in the Final IMO... But in general, I must say as a Berwick fan that I was so proud of all 4 of our team last night (yes, that does even include Tero there who scored 2 points to help take us through as group winners )... Predicted to finish nowhere but we went through to the final and then were right in the running for 2nd place until the final heat... Take a bow boys... You made a lot of people happy last night
The Caretaker
This tournament needs to be on a neutral track. It's just an engineered win for the hosts at the moment which reduces the prestige of the trophy every year. Surely neutral venue + qualifiers would bring in more revenue than having the single event at the same track every year?

Compo, Doolan,Rymel and Lawson were fantastic! I will nail my colours to the post, I am a Comets fan 1st and a Speedway fan 2nd. In my humble opinion some of these fans commenting on last nights 4s have never been to Workington. Certainly not in the last two years. I agree it would be faire to hold these events at a neutral track. All the Premier league events should be ran at Elite league tracks and Visa Versa. However it may well have made No difference last night. It wasn't the home advantage that won the meeting, It was the fact that we have 3 proper heat leaders !!! It could have been a differnt kettle of fish if Redcar hadn't been robbed by the Stevie Wondwer look alike who was standing in as a referee. Or Dracy Ward was riding. I ahve been a Comet fan since 1970. If you ask any of the supporters they will tell you there is NO home track advantage to us. Since the home straight was widdened last year. Any clas rider with good equipment or young gun with balls or lightening gater can win aty Derwent park. The ones that struggle are the ones that ride at little tracks week in and week out. So when Mr Fisher talks about home track advantage... believe me he knows all about it. Well done to Berwick, Somerset and Edinburgh for last night. Ther were up for it. Tomas Topinka was once again class on a bike. As for Stoney, hard look I think most of the "watching fans" seen that you were accidentlly taken out. When IT retires I hope that you are considered for his job, KDs a big man I sure he will see the business sense in that. Well doe to all that took part , Riders staff and Fans from arpound the premier league. Y ou were all a credit. Charlieboy

Well doe to all that took part , Riders staff and Fans from arpound the premier league. Y ou were all a credit. Charlieboy Well said Charlieboy and well done to the lads a great result and well deserved, just because you are on your home track doesn't mean that the win is guaranteed you still have to do it were it matters on the track. (Ask Somerset and Sheffield later this year when Ashworth fails to win the PLRC). The bottom line is that Worky have one of the strongest top 3 in the league and were always going to be one of the favourites no matter what track it was raced on. We hear the same discussion about neutral tracks every year but these are supposed to be the top riders in the PL and they should be able to ride anywhere (well except the trick track I grant you that ). Reading some of the posts it appears that many want the 4s moved to a neutral track but not the pairs or PLRC don't understand the difference, by all means hold these types of event on a neutral track but Worky don't set the rules and should be given credit where credit is due for being the best team on show last night. I sense a little bit of jealousy here, but hey who cares WE ARE THE 4 TEAM CHAMPIONS Edited July 26, 2009 by stemoc

Porterpoolie
Yeah forgot about the Fisher Homer Simpson moment Doh! What a numpty good job it never cost the Monarchs a place in the final. Well the Bears had their chances and never took them and then Dowling took the meeting away from us with that stupid exclusion of Stoney. Had a good night out with mates and seedef and family and the much malinged Snyper and the Emmerdales. And a good laugh all the way there and back on the BSG coach with F1 coach driver man was he fast.

crikeythatsfast
I am just using Berwick as an example. But yeah if Berwick won it that is what folks would say rightly or wrongly, it is still there for every one to win. As Spinny says neutral tracks haven't attracted the crowds that they should have. Berwick would be a safe bet dependant on Quallifers. On a Saturday night it is accessible for a few teams, not teams from the South and they shouldn't be punished but like neutral venues the bigger events have been poorly attended in the South , the pairs are already there , PLRC is in the middle so it would only seem right the North deserves one of the showcase events There was a huge crowd at the EOES, I think it was 2 years ago now, so can't quite see where you are coming from. I agree that all teams should be allowed to enter, and a form of qualifying for the final should take place.
paul84
2009 four team champions. Just to note i shall bare in mind certain peoples Bitter/jelous comments on Workington winning again, at the end of the day we didnt pick the venue. But one thing we did do is prove why we have the best riders in the league and i strongly believe the result would have been the same on a "neutral" track. As Stemoc says the thing that gets to me is we dont hear people saying that Somerset and Sheffield shouldnt get the big events at thier track...? Well done Workington on putting on a super show it was great to see the massive crowd on a sunny day. The only down side for me was the desicion to exclude Stoney!! very unlucky for the travelling Redcar fans, and other then that very unsetting to see such poor desicions being made. Also have to add that Ryan Fisher makes for good entertainment Some heats won in fast times and great racing thrown in there too! Mattt Weathers impressed me again around Derwent park so well done to him. Berwick also deserve a mention also for the efforts some great determined racing from Clews,Makovsky. Well done boys you can only beat whats in front of you and again we have some silverware, Say what you like Comets 2009 fours Champs!!! Bagpuss
Congratulations to Workington but as most others are saying its hard to take the competition seriously when the home team win it at such a canter. I too would prefer the fours to be on a neutral track, I personally would love it to be at Monmore Green a brilliant race track or back at the EOES Good call.....Peterborough is the 4's spiritual home for me but Wolverhampton would also be a good venue if we got the standard of racing which Monmore provides on Sky. Porterpoolie
Just t add to the Worky putting on super show comment. Don't Worky have 10pm curfew so with 28 races to get through what was the crack with the helicopter just for brolly dollies the whole thing and the parade should have been done by 7pm instead 20mins later and we had'nt seen a race. This could have put the whole meeting at risk of being curtailed if there was serious crash or something.
