Jacques
Excellent meeting with plenty of decent racing and pssing on a wonderfully prepared track. Top job, Bob. Atmosphere was very good, helped all the more by Eastbourne making the final. Gutted we didn't make it through ourselves, Kennett seemed to panic when Holder was alongside him going into bend 1 then had no answer coming off the turn before his fall but difficult to see from where we were stood. Well done to Bomber though, who only dropped points on his 2 minutes exclusion - superb job Couldn't decide who I wanted to win the final, in some respects if this is to be Eastbourne's final season, but it took an excellent bit of team riding from Holder to win it for Poole so credit to him for that. Biggest cheer of the night was easily for Risagers last bend cut back under Holder to get the second. Excellent stuff that brought the house down Bomber was furious that his second bike wasn't ready..! Do we know what the problem was?
Blazeaway
Any reason Bridger wasnt wearing his Eastbourne kevlars? He left them in a restaurant in Poland.........
Blazeaway
Bomber was furious that his second bike wasn't ready..! Do we know what the problem was? Something to do with the back tyre I presume. Assuming you are only allowed one tyre.
gaptooth
Something to do with the back tyre I presume. Assuming you are only allowed one tyre. the bike he crashed broke the cut out wire when he hit the fence so while Martin Dugard fixed that he had the gearing on the spare bike changed to suit the track conditions ,but there was a problem with a loose chain after his practice start for the rerun.... rubbish happens Well done to Hans and Crusty well deserved win tbh, good lesson for Bridger in how to get suckered Good meeting all round Also Hans showed Bridger how to do side saddle wheelies.. top man
hyderd
Thoroughly enjoyed that. Congratulations to Poole on the win. Good speedway and a great crowd there to watch it. Only downside was the Belle Vue pairing. Not being nasty to the Aces, but that was the weakest pairing I have ever witnessed. Agree on the weakest pairing tomcat, seems we have gone from past winners to last in this competition, on the brighter side our weak pairing , which was constantly thrown down our throat finished the meeting a mere 2 pts behind Swindon. Congrats must go to Poole, thoroughly deserving with some great team riding. Edited August 9, 2009 by hyderd
Eastie
It was a brilliant meeting due to NO POLES in the lineup who cant use throttle control. Dont think the track suited the home riders with it being a scorching day with not much moisture in the track but most riders can ride Eastbourne now , even Davidson. srbramble
Just watched it, and thought it was a good meeting. One complaint in particular I have, is with the attitude of Lewis Bridger. It has nothing to do with his past misdeanours, I was never in favour of the flack he took, it is to do with his attitude on the track. The commentators mentioned his lack of team riding, which may, or may not, have cost the Eagles the title, and how he fails to hold on to a point scoring postition, sometimes almost putting himself into the fence, when taking unecessary risks. I'm not sure he is GB material, until the time comes that his attitude is less me, me , me, and more of a team man.
Seb the Snail
I'm not convinced by all this praise for the track, but then again Swindon's interest was all but over by Heat 1 so maybe I was only paying token attention after that. Great stuff from the Pirates in the final anyway; winning it from the back thanks to an excellent rider from Holder to force his way past Bridger and then slow him down to allow Hans through. I agree about the track. Second bend was causing riders problems and after one heat Andersen signalled it was very bumpy, and later in the same spot Adams fell. srbramble
I agree about the track. Second bend was causing riders problems and after one heat Andersen signalled it was very bumpy, and later in the same spot Adams fell. That problem was caused by having the meeting at such a tight track in the first place. With the quality in the field, it was quite obvious there would be no quarter given, and when arriving at the corner at the same time, there was nowhere to go. We didn't see the best from such a good field. Should have been held at Peterborough.
Ace no.5
The BV riders didn't have that problem. They were sensible you see, and decided to let the other 2 riders get to the bend 1st. Oh, hang on a minute...
Edward Barrett
As a footnote, hope this is The Eagles saviour, despite all that has been said & done nobody wants to see a club become defunct. Thank you Mr Cooke, nice words much appreciated. Also, as Redpanda says, surely it is not beyond the intelligence of the people in control to stage major EL competitions on PL tracks, (Sheffield or Kings Lynn for example), and major PL competitions on EL circuits. Rule out "home" advantage and level the playing field. No doubt somebody will put forward an excellent reason why this is not feasible, but Workington recently winning at Workington in the 4s is a classic example as to why the playing field needs to be level. And Comets fans, that is in no way intended as a "go" at you, just by way of example.

T.N.T.
Any reason Bridger wasnt wearing his Eastbourne kevlars? I have never seen Lewis in his Eastbourne kevlars. All last season when he rode at Wolves quite a few times he either wore his Polish kevlars or a set borrowed from Edward Kennett. Even this year he has had two different sets on but not once have they been Eagles suits. Suprised at Lewis falling for Holders move on the last lap when he slowed to let Lewis look at the inside, only for Holder to close the door on him and allow Hans around the outside. A switch to the outside would have out done them both, but a good race and there has to be a loser whatever. Q ~ Why were the top riders from each partnerships switched to Blue and Yellow helmet colours in the semi finals and finals ?
superguest
Q ~ Why were the top riders from each partnerships switched to Blue and Yellow helmet colours in the semi finals and finals ? On the updates site it has them as.... Bridger (Red) Watt (Blue) Andersen (Green) Holder (Yellow) The higher averaged riders were in Red and Green.... T.N.T.
In the semi finals they wore the opposite colours, wondering if they could choose the gates ?
iris123
Personally i thought it was a pretty good advert for speedway. And i thought the points scoring helped that.Wouldn't want to tinker with it when it seems to work.Maybe all pairs could meet each other, but the way the points are calculated helps team riding. And it shouldn't be a surprise that Hans was good.I have thought for a number of years that not only is he a good team rider. But a good team man.Always out looking after riders that have fallen,or speaking to less experienced riders to help out. Was just a pity BV couldn't use a guest or 2 .
ChrisR
Personally i thought it was a pretty good advert for speedway. And i thought the points scoring helped that. The 4-3-2-0 points scoring doesn't make a scrap of difference to the qualifying heats. 3-2-1-0 would have given exactly the same result. The only difference it did make was to the knock out stage where it seems to reward finishing third! I think a better system would be to use the usual 3-2-1-0 and also award and include bonus points in the score. This would encourage teams on a 4-2 to team ride and possibly earn a 6-1. Had this system been in use last night then Lakeside, Poole and Eastbourne would still have qualified but Coventry and Wolverhampton would have tied. A tie could be decided by the number of bonus points scored (rewarding team riding) in this case Wolverhampton would have gone through. The current format is inherently flawed anyway. Is it any coincidence that three of the four teams that rode against a seriously weak Belle Vue pairing qualified for the semis? The fourth, Wolverhampton, only just failed to qualify. Having said all that the meeting still provided some cracking racing! Edited August 9, 2009 by ChrisR
