Robin Bert
As a stadium I prefer Wembley, it is head and shoulders above Cardiff for the wow-factor, but as a speedway gp venue it has to be Cardiff everytime, it has a roof for starters so the meeting could never be rained off, for such a large stadium you feel very close to the action and the concentration of fans creates an amazing atmosphere. On top of that you have all the pubs around and after 9 years it just feels like the home of speedway, how could you possibly move it away. Wackie
Well, I was at the millenium Stadium on Saturday, and Wembley Stadium last night, and i just hope to God they keep the GP at Cardiff. I found the stewards at Cardiff to be much more amenable, friendly and accomodating. The ones at wembley were just jobsworths tbh ! As for the stadium itself - I much prefer Cardiff with good views from every angle. I felt at Cardiff that if you needed to get out quickly, this would be much simpler than Wembley, where it felt much more closed in. Queues for toilets were ridiculous - have never experienced toilet queues at Cardiff. And the final straw was the car park. Left Wembley stadium last night at 10.30pm and finally left the car park at 0045 !! 2 hours 15 minutes of sitting in a car park ! People were getting irate, the police came but said they couldn't do anything such as open more exits as it was "down to the Wembley Stadium management." In the end people were removing barriers themselves ! And then the jobsworth stewards were returning and putting cones back ! We went back to the building to see if we could go back in to use the toilets in the stadium but were told no ! It was just a joke. ! The roof at wembley is only partial too, and the sun was quite unbearable sitting in our seats - and I am a sun lover! Also made it impossible to see the stage with the sun in your eyes. So, Millenium Stadium everytime for me - a much more pleasurable and relaxing environment altogether ! What does anyone else think? What you fail to mention though Zonkers is that there were twice as many people at and trying to get out of Wembley as there was Cardiff last week. I also visited both stadiums in the past week and had no problems with either - actually we had more problems getting to Cardiff and ended up dumping the car in Newport and catching the train in. TBH, you should have expected problems getting out of car parks around the stadium, it's been a historic problem. We drove to Hillingden, parked in the large station car park all day for £1 and caught the tube straight to Wembley Park, and after leaving Wembley on Saturday night were back at our car again within 30 minutes. GP in my opinion should stay in Wales. The average Cardiff crowd for a GP at Wembley would look pityful and the Millenium is slap bang in the middle of Cardiff which enables people to make a weekend of it. keef
Swindon is halfway between Cardiff and Wembley but my vote would be Cardiff...stadium roof, ideal city centre location.
Humphrey Appleby
If the vote does not look like it's going your way .why not kill the thread with some stupid comment? What vote? I have no interest in the SGP, so I couldn't care less whether the British GP is held at Cardiff or Wembley. The point though, is that a speedway GP has never been held at Wembley and unlikely ever will be, so no-one can say whether it's better there or not. Personally, I'd have said the Millenium Stadium is better suited to speedway (especially at its current level), but why all the prejudice against Wembley when no-one has ever actually watched speedway there? colincooke
No brainer. The Wembley area is crap for facilities & Cardiff is..........well, as i said it's a no brainer. Edited July 8, 2009 by colincooke
Parsloes 1928 nearly
No brainer. The Wembley area is crap for facilities & Cardiff is..........well, as i said it's a no brainer. You are thinking of a Wembley from another time... There are considerably more facilities there now and the massive 'Wembley City' project will be delivering many more... My personal wish now, though, is that we look to see a major Speedway event staged at the new Olympic Stadium in late 2012 or 2013... I believe that this can definitely happen should we have the will as a sport to press for it... I do believe though that such an event demands a far bigger meeting than that of the near-meaningless 'British GP': just one of what are effectively little more than 'qualifiers'. No, for a major London stadium (Wembley or the Olympic stadium) it has to be something where a major championship is actually decided not an invitational old boys network benefit.. Bring back the proper World Championship, stage the Final in the September following the Olympics in the Athletics stadium itself and the world will sit up and pay attention.. Currently Cardiff itself doesn't even pay much attention let alone the world!!!
