Why does Greg Hancocks mechanic come out onto the track to adjust his chain before every GP heat he is in ?. surely his chain does not need adjusting after riding fifty feet from his pit space

advertising, crumps done it for years, he is one of the better rider, the camera sees that he is in trouble, and get a close up, thus looking at his kevlars and showing of his sponsors.

Damn clever these yanks . I never thought of that . Surprised gollob has'nt tried it as he tries to get as much exposure as possible for his sponsors.

only got told by a fellow rider who said that about crump, TBH its a clever move, so next time in the GP's watch the riders head back for no apparent reason, or swap bikes as comes out on a slower bike, then swaps to the bike he would of gone on anyway ;)

Also riders always try and put a cap on when getting interviewed and they always touch the peak about 3 or 4 times during the interview so the viewer will look at it(happens alot in league matches that are featured on sky)

Some odd comments on here....

1. Gregory does it because its routine - yes he does do it for sponsors too, but once your in a mind set that things go in certain order you dont change it....if he has total faith in his equipment before a race then its one less thing to think about...

also the chains do slacken from when they enter the track and do a practice start - albeit it very slightly - theres nothing like piece of mind.

2 Gardening... He got of the bike because he needed to make sure loose dirt was packed down in the trough to make the best start, this is the world championship you know, if you make a good start thats half the work done. The inside is also where you always get the largest hole, so he had to take full advantage of it.... you cant pack it down so well sitting on your bike.

3. Theyre not empty cans, although one can be used - theyre bottles supplied by the energy co's - its actually in their contract to display it all the time especially on podiums... Crump also takes a helmet which also have the same stipulation....

You may not realise but Crumpy doesnt have RedBull on his suit or bike - so he has to plug it in other ways at present...

I have seen the contracts for Monster and theyre very specific in what they want... I think these guys are doing a great job of marketing it....

Monster do not pay for any advertising through media - so everything is done through endorsements and word of mouth.... very effective and actually more rewarding.

I wondered when someone would comment about Greg as he seems to be getting the same compulsive repetitive disorder as Gollob. At least the comments have cleared up why he's doing it because here was me thinking he just liked the pat on the bum he always got from his mechanic.

I think you're just jealous of his mechanic Gemini.

I thought that there was a real practical reason for it tbh. My daughter mentioned it a couple of times and I said it was most likely a routine where he does a clutch start with the rear tyre under weight pressure on the track and not on the stand, and they just making sure in taking up any slack on the chain. He does not feature in most of the pre- starts on TV on Saturday until only once in the semi, I think.

So all the opinions with posts in the thread about getting in the spotlight from a TV coverage for his sponsors, by re-checking the slack in the rear chain are not looking very strong at all really chaps at this stage. :):P
