Gb World Cup Team

Apart from the stripes, fur and whiskers yes they're exactly the same. Separated at birth!

Way OT, so apologies, but this reminded me of the late John Peel's celebrated comment when he went to see a Billy Joel/Elton John concert and was asked afterwards how Joel had rated. He said it was just like watching Elton apart from the songs, the costumes and the sense of fun.

1) Do you really think we would do anything if we had picked the riders of old?

2) The young riders will not win the event, but they won't do much worse than a team of Nicholls, Richardson etc

3) This is obviously the start of a plan for the future and if in 3 or 4 years time Team GB wins the world cup then with the core of this team then how many of you will be complaining?

4) Give Rob Lyons a chance. Far too many people on here think the elite League is the be-all and end-all. It's not, get over it. Look at the success he's had in the PL, do you think its a fluke? The man clearly knows his stuff.

Yes

Yes they will

Plan with danny king in it

Suceess at pl level wow ......

i'm going to crash this one if I may............. so Orion

1) what exactly do you think we could have achieved?

2) last year we didnt make the final.... so if you think this team wont do as well are you saying that they wont make the race off?

3) lmao you still havent taken the time to maturely put across a reason why you are so 100% sure Danny King won't make it ... do you even have one?

4) who knows what his influence has been as KL manager, obviously their aggressive team building policy has counted for a lot........... would you say the EL is a more difficult league for a team to have success in than the PL then Orion? Can we even describe the EL as a league anymore?

King is one of your 3-4 best riders even if his form is a bit questionable at the moment judging bu his 3 latest meetings in Sweden.

Although its possible that his concussion a few weeks ago might affect him still.

I'm going to gate crash too

I think you have covered 1-3 spook so I'll move swiftly on to 4

4 ) Exactly how is managing EL riders any different to PL riders or in fact NL riders. Don't all riders go on track with the aim of winning? Assuming the answer to that is yes, the next question is how to get them to do it. Now I'd say Rob Lyon has been pretty successful at that so far with Lynn. As successful almost as Middlo with Poole  and more successful than Rosco with Swindon

The only difference I can see from the inference of the likes of Orion, Steve Shovlar and sundry other Rosco advocates is that EL riders have bigger egos! Trust me Rob Lyon knows exactly how to work with big egos

Getting riders to go out and win for their team, which is what we are talking about, is the same in any league.

If I'm wrong Orion, Mr Shovlar et al, come on then tell us all why EL riders need different handling to PL, NL or indeed Polish/Swedish/Danish riders cos there team managers don't have experience with EL riders either

1 .Unlike you i would try and win our home leg (we have won them before ) i would have put the best team in ...if we had pull off a shock and won it would be classed as a good world cup .

2. What i am saying is that the team we have picked has no hope our strongest team would have had a slight hope.

3. Danny king shows no reason why he would get better the only things he does it that he looks quite quick when out front what is not very offen ...he still getting beat by the likes of stuart robson week in week out and even his swedish team have dropped him ..i got nothing axe to grind with the lad because he gets my respect by going into the el but he never going to more than a 6/6.50 in the el

4 The pl is a well ran league full of small teams on low budgets kings lynn are one of the biggest teams in the uk with a massive budget hence they can win the league by signing Darcy Ward ...it's like man ute playing in the non league ...i give lyon no credit what so ever for beating teams 60-30 each week and not having the balls to test himself at the highest level in the el hence why he should never have got the job in the first place

Wrong. Kings Lynn started this season, and signed Darcy Ward, without a main team sponsor. Whilst they have now picked up a sponsor I very much doubt that their input is "massive".

Just because they did have a sponsor does not mean they don't have a big budget  andersons bucthers etc have sponsor pl teams before hardly going to be a mavsive amount of money .

Quite easy when you have done nothing in the sport as a rider or as a Team manager like Rob lyon your not going to get the respect of riders who have been at the top level of the sport like Nicholls and Rico etc and that is one of the main reasons they are not in the side .

Priceless

Absolutely priceless.

So why couldn't Colin Pratt, who has achieved just about everything in our sport, get the best out of Nicholls

i thought pratt and nicholls were together the other year they won the league twice and also a treble  or was that some people with the same name ?

As you say pratt done everythink in the sport so gets respect lyon does nothing so the top riders are unlikely to give him any .

You can understand why Scott wasn't included but no Rico?:rolleyes:

I think the kids will be all at sea but hope they can battle with the top guns.

To be honest there is only Tai I think will eventually cut it at top level.

As for Scotty he is one meeting away from turning things round. He and Bomber would have led a good charge, you have to admit Rico is having his best season since coming out of the GP's and then blood in the others depending on how far we got. Disillusion them now and it could do them more harm than good.

Thats exactly how I see Danny King, nice enough effort but not enough in our top 3 or 4. In fact, a fit Olly Allen should be above King in the pecking order.

So why couldn't Colin Pratt, who has achieved just about everything in our sport, get the best out of Nicholls

Orion has already answered this one, but Colin and Nicholls were together at Coventry during one of the most successful ever periods in the club's history. I don't think any other Coventry Captain has lifted as much silverware. And Colin was also there!

Rob Lyon is out of touch, and out of his depth. He has attempted football psychology, attempting to show no-one is safe, but it will eventually back-fire. We don't have the depth of riders to play silly games with.

Again, I would have alot more credit for Lyon if he has moulded a PL team of under-achievers and turned them into PL all stars. Simple fact he hasn't. Managers have less influence over team selection than Promoters, imo. A Speedway Manager should be an ex-Speedway rider who has been there, done it, got the T shirt who can pass on expert knowledge on track and set ups.. That will get FAR more respect. And my nomination would have been Mark Loram!

I, of course, hope Team GB do their best and I will be first to credit them if they achieve more....but I fear the worst, sadly.

Good post .

People on here greet and moan that there isn't much in the way of British talent coming through , well now we have a manager brave enough to give it a chance . Who's to say that the likes of Danny King won't grab this chance with both hands and take his career to a new level .

The old guard have had their chances , and plenty of them , and come up short . These lads might fail this time , or they might not , but it will be a good grounding for progress to be made in the next couple of years .

Critcism of Lyon is as laughable as it is pathetic , mainly coming from EL supporters who can't get their head round that someone other than the top league clique could possibly do the job . Let's face it - the last incumbant of the position had plenty of EL experience and erm ...................:lol:

1) no that is not a good world cup..... that is naive suicide as performed well in 07 and last season by the Aussies............ its even the same track as 07! There is absolutely nothing to be gained by qualifying directly and then being embarrassed

and unlike myself or Rob Lyon you would make it the 21st year of the same old same old with no light at the end of the tunnel......... do you not understand that if the cycle isnt broken it will just continue??

2) No you clearly said that this team would do much worse than a team with Nicholls and Rico in..... you are the one yourself who is grading how successful world cups are by the stages reached.................... so bearing in mind that the same Nicholls and Rico line up didnt progress from the race off last year how on earth can these lads do any worse?............. again the bottom line is can GB win the SWC with any lineup they put out? As long as the answer is no (are you denying its 'no'?) then some progressive thinking and actions need to take place

3) "Danny King shows no reason why he would get better" Apart from being one of the better riders in his struggling team???? Apart from still being young and having plenty of improving years ahead of him??........... I'm sorry Orion but you still cannot come up with anything can you? This is just the same as Ed Kennett for you...... you either just dont like him or its a tribal thing.............The fact that we are blooding the youngsters quite clearly means that some of them wont be 9 pointers .... therefore yes you will be able to pick out the odd race where they were beaten by x rider................................... which tbh lol you can probably do with our 'stars'

4) What has 'budget' got to do with the GB manager? and do you really think that some of those PL promoters couldnt front an EL budget if they wanted to?

So if we are talking about management experience and what is needed to be a world cup manager .....Craig Boyce doesnt even have management experience lol ...... let alone at EL level...............

No twas them but all the respect for Pratt didn't make Nicholls a world beater this time did it?

As you say pratt done everythink in the sport so gets respect lyon does nothing so the top riders are unlikely to give him any .

So are you saying the riders will only ride well for a manager they respect and not because of wanting to win? Not to mention pride in riding for their country.

I given plenty of reasons about Danny king you just choose not ignore them ....to sum it up the guy has not the skill or the gating to take him to the next level this is as far as he gets ( waits for you to say you still have not given any reasons )

Craig boyce came third in a world championship and was captain of many top levels teams .......where did Rob Lyon come ? how many top levels teams did he captain ? Boyce gets respect from others riders Lyon done nothing to get anyones respect .

Ps when did i ever say that Craig Boyce should have been or was a good world cup manager ?

no that is the first time you have specifically said anything............. well I hope it comes back to haunt you Orion because that then means he has proven you wrong and we have another string to our bow

you didnt........... my point is that it isnt unusual for a national manager to have never managed before...... 30 years ago you may have had a point about the need for an EL manager ........ (and we wouldnt even have been having this conversation because we would have had a team of 2x 11point & 3x10 point guys) ... but not now... the EL has been a joke for some time and if we are to be in the business of favouring the managers of one league over another I would be favouring the PL as they have a greater challenge over the season

Maybe you should research Rob Lyon's record? ie what he has managed to achieve, in how many years, in a league of how many clubs........
