FTM
Positive for me were the venue and organisation. Sadly the pre-match entertainment was decidedly average. Previous years' offerings have at least been real performers not saddo tributes. Programme fee - 8 quid???? Racing - I have seen comments that the racing was good, but you can count on one hand the number of passing races. Why wasnt the track watered more regularly? Ok the track held up well but there just wasnt enough grip. I spend a lot of time defending speedway against the "first bend and its over" brigade and this meeting wont help me one jot! Refereeing - I really am at a loss to understand why Bomber and Pedersen were excluded - there was nothing there that I havent seen countless times and it been considered an all four back situation. Pedersen was bang on with his after race comments because it looked very much like he was being victimised. Nikki hardly endears himself to the crowd but every rider deserves to be dealt with fairly and in this instance it seems like the ref saw two identical incidents in completely opposite ways. As regards the racing part of your post we are only allowed to grade and water every 4 heats as Sky fit us in between ad breaks not as it should be but our hands are tied. Passing is IMO normally at a premium in Grand Prix as you have 16 of the top guys in the world all at the top of their game and bikes are tuned to the max so its very difficult to get any extra speed out of the bike if you are asleep at the gate. spook
being the spreadsheet trainspotter that I am now with the gp's I counnt the passes due to the premium that they are at this season and Saturday wasnt actually that great in terms of passing after the 2nd bend lap 1.... I think we had on average a pass in 3 out of 4 races which is as much as you can expect from a temporary track what was good about the track imo though was the lack of ruts and the wider line right from heat 1 which is so rarely seen in the gp's................ I dont necessarily think it is great if the riders are close to each other race after race as it usually means the chances for passing at at a minimum but it does at least show that the riders are happy on the track and trust its behaviour............ I hope that the guys at IMG appreciate what has happened this weekend as it has seriously improved the reputation of the racing at Cardiff which can only mean more bums on seats for their flagship cashcow Passing is IMO normally at a premium in Grand Prix as you have 16 of the top guys in the world all at the top of their game and bikes are tuned to the max so its very difficult to get any extra speed out of the bike if you are asleep at the gate. do you think this should necessarily be the case on the permanent tracks though FTM? IMO the level of passing has sunk to an all time low over the last year and has come after several years of decreasing action
lupus
Nobody is asking any of you anti Nicholls people to support or even like the guy. What some of us are asking is that you look at the incident in an objective manner. Pretend both riders are riders you don't know, then look again at the footage. If you still come to the same decision, then fair enough. Just try and look past the anti Nicholls red mist for a change. But that works both ways....Pretend the 'other' rider wasn't Scott and look at it again.........Or better still - swap the two riders over and pretend it was Scott who got shoved when he was only having 'words' with the other rider who then rode him into the safety fence......... Backless
.....amazes me how 40 thousand fans celebrated his 1 heat win, like he has just won the world championship sat there and filled my programme in And I joined you. I guess the celebrations were as a result of the tidal wave of emotion summoned up by the presentation team which started with the rider introductions: "If ever there was a rider that needed his country to be behind him...." Christ Almighty, setting aside the other two English riders who were representing Great Britain on the day, why not just say what you mean: "Here's a rider who's been a bit crap lately, but c'mon & give him a cheer..." At least with his current form there's little need for Sky to line up another replacement blonde - there's little reason for the curent bird to speak to him! Gemini
Can the organisors please book somebody different to do the music next year. I felt dissapointed when I left the stadium at the end without a luckbag & ice cream & jelly down my shirt. Bloody accordian music, the hokey 'kin cokey, & agabastarddoo at a major sporting event for God's sake, it was more like a 5 year olds birthday party. You're getting old Lt. I loved it all, especially the accordian music as it's played regularly at Coventry. You really must break the habit of a lifetime and come and see us at Brandon then you can have a little dance around the terraces to the music. Dietbowers
Well,Crumpie was awesome Saturday night, best display I`ve seen from him for a while I took my daughter with me this year,it was her first visit to the GP,and she really got into it big time, the bloke sat next to her just looked on in amazement while she was booing Nicki Pedersen Sadly,we didn`t get into the PoW this year, the Moose`s daughter was on crutches, and we didn`t fancy picking her up if she was toppled over ,so we had a quiet few in the Sandringham, the Goat Major, where the Goat Major actually made an appearance ,and the Cardiff Rugby club, but we did bump into Seb and Pints or Points on our travels. The only worry for me next year is my daughter wants to go again, and the wife has also mentioned she might turn up as well
