Eastern Europe Holiday

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm going on an InterRail holiday this summer and whilst travelling through Eastern Europe, I'm thinking what better way to enjoy new experiences than to watch some speedway in a foreign country.

I'm going to be in Berlin, Krakow and Prague between 17th - 25th July. Does anyone know if there will be any speedway taking place in these cities during that time?

Browsing the internet this evening it seems that the nearest track to Krakow is 80km west in Tarnow. Can anyone confirm this?

Also, I can't seem to find a club team in Prague. Do they race weekly?

As for Berlin, that's just a shot in the dark as to whether there's any speedway there?

I'm also travelling to Vienna, Budapest and Bucharest amongst others - any chances of speedway down there?

Fingers crossed I get to see some speedway (hopefully in Poland), but if not I guess it'll be a trip to Lakeside once I return to catch some live action!

I went to a czech league meeting in Prague last month, but they dont race weekly, in fact i think theres only a few meetings there per season and nothing big apart from czech championship next week and lubos tomicek memorial in October now.

There's a team in Germany called berlin-wolfslake , dont know how far from centre of Berlin though, and in speedway star only a meeting listed for 4th July.

So Poland is your best bet, although Krakow no longer has a team, maybe Tarnow is the nearest i'm not sure.

There are tracks in Austria, Hungary and Romania though none in the capitals that i know of.

Sorry i cant be of more help, hope others can

Try this if in Berlin for 17 July, train to Poznan then to Lezsno for the Team World Cup Final Sat 18. There is a full programme of Extra Liga 1st & 2nd Divs on Sun 19 a good few in easy traveling distance. If you do go to Tarnow, (2Div) its east of Krakow.

Tue 21 July Marketa Cup, 125cc ?? Marketa Stadium Prague 3.30pm

Sat 25 July Landshut v Wolfslake BL Speedway Landshut just NE of Munchen (Munich)

Tarnow is the nearest one to Krakow, there's also Czestochowa and Rybnik (both ~110km, Czestochowa north-west, Rybnik west). There's only one league-weekend between 17th and 25th July; it's 19th (the next one is 26th) and there are meetings in Tarnow (Tarnow vs. Rybnik) and Czestochowa (Czestochowa vs. Wroclaw).

There's also Individual Polish Championship Final in Torun, 25th :)

There's a few of us who'll be at Torun on the 25th, i'm also hoping for Pila on the 23rd, if the flights on time.

If I were you, I'd go to Tarnów. There is a good train connection between Kraków and Tarnów so it won't be a problem to get to Tarnów and return to Kraków. (but you can also spend some time in Tarnów, it has one of the most beautiful old towns in Poland)
