carlisle_comet
Quite a good meeting, good to see redcar putting on a meeting for the young lads to get some track time....top marks redcar. Felt really sorry for swales, he would probably have won tonight, didn't see what happened was getting out of the way of a bike i though was coming over the fence ha ha. Well done to arlo, used the outside line very well in the semi and the final, his ride with benji in heat 8 was fantastic speedway. Craig Cook did very well, was leading the final until arlo swept round the outside, showed great bike control in heat 9 was sure he was going into the fence. redlead
Quite a good meeting last night. really sorry to see Stu taken off in the ambulance, hope He's ok. He proved tonight He could cut it at a higher level, can't be far off a team spot, pleased that Arlo won, He looked good showing good aggression. I was'nt to happy with the format, Arlo meeting Stu and Tregonning twice, Benji did'nt meet Stu at all, so maybe the format could do with a bit sorting out. Over all Ithought it was quite a good meeting, just hope Stu is ok.

While feeling sorry for Stu Swales (get well soon) very few posts have been about the winner, Arlo....come on give the lad a break....he won! Arlo was fighting for more than just the meeting....think about it, he was under more preasure than any of the other riders last night, he was fighting for his future at Redcar Speedway! Must agree about the format, was abit strange, craig cook rode against ben hopwood 3times, greg blair 2times but not once against swales or benji compton. Ben91
6. Stuart Swales 3, 3, 3, FN, = 9 withdrawn Ht 6; Stuart Swales, Greg Blair, Jack Hirst, James Cartmell, 55.4 Shows that he can mix it with PL reserves at least, no mean feat, could be a spot somewhere perhaps? Well done to Bugeja though, he seems to be a 100% trier from what I have seen of him, could well have saved his team place, however could have been different if Swales had not withdrawn lets not forget. I have dug out a Berwick programme, with an identical 12 man, 12 heat format, it is the same apart from two key heats, they are heats 10 and 12. Under the Berwick lay out, Arlo would have been in ht 10, and Blair in ht 12! .......thus Arlo wouldn't have faced Swales twice off gate four! It is also strange that Compton wouldn't have faced Swales at all, wether it be the Redcar/ Berwick lay out. Was it just the luck of the draw how the riders came out in that order?......and is the format a set in stone format, not to be changed, because there does appear to be a difference between the two programmes.....food for thought! Warm&Cosy
Great stuff from Craig Cook very impressive for the amount of track time the lad has had, what a find. I think we can safely say the Richards Lawson and Craig Cook will be Comets in 2010, I thought it about time we had some more local talent coming through in Workington and we get 2 in one season!! its good to see young lads given a chance to come through and progress with their club
carlisle_comet
its good to see young lads given a chance to come through and progress with their club To right, Workington are trying this as are Berwick with Greg Blair. Too many teams seem to take the option of bringing in foreign riders, and sending the young lads even further down the pecking order. "The Mackem" Agree 100% Scarletrider. I too feel very sorry for Stuart Swales but it ought to be remembered that ARLO WAS leading when Swales came to grief. I think Arlo showed a lot of bottle tonight - everyone seemed to think it was Arlo v. Benji - WELL - perhaps we can put THAT one to bed now. clevelandbay
Bob, Firstly can I just say this meeting was thrown together at the last minute and in the circumstances to have a meeting at all was a result in itself. The format that you are complaining about was the same one Jason Pipe used in last year's Stars of Tomorrow. I could be wrong but you didn't complain about the format back then yet because you were firmly in the Arlo Bugeja camp and Arlo and Benji only met once in the qualifiers it wasn't good enough, some people are never happy no matter what you try to do. I now know how speedway promoters feel because the weather looked decidedly dodgy at several points during the day. Benji Compton came in as a late replacement for Jamie Rodgers at No.12 having originally requested to take part in the meeting. The riders were given to me on Saturday evening provisionally and completed in time for the programme to be printed on Monday. As I have already explained on the Redcar Bears forum there were several riders we wanted in the meeting like Adam McKinna who originally turned us down when asked, some had work and others college commitments. I feel deeply saddened that you believe there was some ulterior motive to have Arlo racing against Stuart twice and Benji none unless they met in the latter stages. I think having spoken you and Ian that there was a distinct bias towards Arlo. I myself was grateful we could put this meeting on for the younger guys in the sport and enjoyed watching amongst others how much Greg Blair, Craig Cook and Grant Tregoning all rode. Of course the format is not perfect and is something I discussed with Brian Havelock after the meeting and next time we stage this even it will have 16 competing riders and a much even system. I worked overtime to attract sponsors with less than 48 hours notice before the programme deadline (and one of them was a Sunday!). No doubt you will then find something else to complain about! I agree about the format. I have dug out a Berwick programme, with an identical 12 man, 12 heat format, it is the same apart from two key heats, they are heats 10 and 12. scarletrider
Steve You read too much into my post. I was raising the question regarding the two programmes (Redcar/Berwick) is there a "set in stone" layout? because there is a difference between the two. As for being in the "Arlo camp", I'm in nobody's camp (except my own) I'm a speedway supporter first and foremost. My point was, is there a fairer format? where everyone can ride against each other. I've no doubt that you do a lot for Redcar speedway, have I ever questioned that? You state (no doubt you will find something else to complain about) I find that a very offensive remark Steve, I'm not a complaining sort of guy. So if it pleases you, I can always stop attending speedway at the STMP, I can watch it somewhere else. But after attending Redcar since day one, week in and week out, standing in all kinds of weather, and at the age of 71, I can do without that kind of criticism, I will not be labled a complainer! I have made many friends at Redcar Speedway over the years (including yourself) pity that it is soured by remaks that you have made regarding myself. It would seem that Redcar Speedway are untouchable with regard to any form of comment that does not fall in line with their own point of view, no matter how well meaning or innocent that remark may be!
