BigFatDave
When is it you leave for pommy land David? Week thursday mate, wanna sit on me lap? Arthur Sissus was riding in the 2nd half at Edinburgh on Friday and he looked tremendous for his age (14 i believe?). Its a pity that he seems destined for road racing. Arthur is the best junior I've ever seen. Edited June 14, 2009 by BigFatDave

Rita
Word is young Todd Kurtz is in Pomgolia having a look - anyone seen him riding yet? PS More bad news for Sandgropers Aussiegal & Ozyace as the Weagles took a pounding from the Mighty TIGERS at the Dome last night - Oh We're From TIGERLAND!! Todd had a good debut at Newport today, scoring 10pts in fact he was the top scorer 2 race wins and 2 second places, Ryan Sedgemen also had a couple of race wins, he was the only rider to beat Mark Simmonds. This is the one problem with the jouinor system in Aust I have watched Aurthur since he was 10 years old but may never see him ride a 500, as you are not allowed to ride a 500 untill you turn 16! Lets hope and pray he sticks with speedway.

spiderweb
You have lost me, what has that got to do with it. Chopper Nothing much Chopper! Just making the point that the young Solo riders are going over to the UK at a younger and younger age and good on them, but us loyal fans in Ozz who stand though artic conditions ( I am sure you will remmember THAT night at the sidewinders track BFD!) to watch the youngsters miss out seeing them ride(demo) the 500s. Have to accept the fact I may never see this lad ride a 500 Solo if he sticks with road racing!
whowasthatberntpersson
I wasn't including Arthur in the current crop mainly because of his age and the fact that speedway is not a prority for him at this stage. However it doesn't hide the fact that he can go to the UK and ride a 500 (at 13), whereas here in Australia we have a whole heep of very talented 15 year olds who cannot actually race a 500 until they turn 16. Our system seems to be working but I reckon it would work even better if the authorities were a little more flexible and allow the Under 16's that are capable permission to race with the big boys. For example; here is a list of 15 year olds who could easily step onto a 500 and race with adults now, there are more but these are the riders that spring to mind - Mason Campton, Nick Morris, Robert Branford, Bryce Johnson, and Brenton Barnfield. Interesting to see "Todd Kurtz" a 16 year old who I overlooked in the intial post (by mistake) score 10 points on his NL debut for Newport. Todd has only just come back from injury after breaking his ankle during the Aussie U21 Title. Another great talent who has a absolutely fantastic record in Dirt Track racing here in OZ. Obviously the talent that has been coming through is amazing and the system may be great for that but as you say you are losing them from the Oz tracks virtually instantly now. I know you guys have always had an issue sticking together a workable league due to the vast distances needing to be covered but has it been given up on entirely? I know you guys have always had an issue sticking together a workable league due to the vast distances needing to be covered but has it been given up on entirely? I think our system would work better if the talented riders were allowed to ride 500's before they turn 16, similar to how 15 year olds can ride in the National League in England. At the moment they can ride 350cc machines from 14 - 16, but even if the kids are very good on the 350's they can only practice alone on 500cc bikes from 15 years old (and the powers that be even tried to stop that) As for teams/league racing in Australia, the distances involved and current lack of riders would prevent it. There could be one off teams meetings but any regular league setup would be too expensive for our clubs to even consider.
Trees
Would it be possible to make teams up of the riders in a club, if it's all about learning to team ride etc wouldn't that be good enough?
chopper
Id bet my house that Authur will ride a 500 in australia in the future. I know for certain he will be on a 350 next season if hes old enough. Cheers Chopper

I agree with you, we have a similar problem here, while the age groups are there for a very good reason, there needs to be exceptions to allow the obvious talented ones through to the bigger bikes. Maybe the riders they ride against need to be at a certain level also, so they aren't put up against wobblers. On the other hand is the aussie system working because the boys have to stay on the 125's for so long, they are after all harder to ride than the bigger bikes. Watching Justin Sedgmen - tall for his age - ride against Arthur Sissis - we're talkin' Camel Jockey here - at Gillman in Justin's last year on 125's I swear Arthur passed him between his legs. He seems to be doin' OK on the big 'uns now!
