speedwaystar84
I wouldnt be suprised if England are now stripped of holding this event next year as punishment for fielding an under strength team. I mean come on Brendan WHO?? It should be the first 5 riders from the british under 21 final and if riders refuse to go then follow polands example and ban them! why do england even bother entering if they are gonna ride with an under strength team... well done to sweden germany and australia for fielding strong teams!! Brendan has shown commitment to the GB cause and his own, by travelling to Hungary and Slovenia for world events, he is hungry to ride, so we should be letting guys like Bren ride, who wants to ride, no matter off whats on offer! spook
I mean come on Brendan WHO?? sorry but that is just plain disrespectful! He is a guy who was there to be counted ................. if you have an issue with the strength in depth that we dont have then maybe you should point yourself in the direction of our union jack flying promoters
DutchGrasstrack
At least Brendan goes to meetings like this.. c'mon UK... just 4 riders? bdjfan
From what I can gather Dave # Name Removed # did approach other GB under 21 rider's about this meeting only to be told that they couldn't committ to it, so give Brendan a break he made the effort where others failed. It's all cracking experience for him. He's coming back to a double header up in Scunnie on Friday with his national team the Isle of Wight. He's alway's looking for new sponsor's if there's anyone out there interested!!!!

Ghostwalker
primarily a very sad day for HIM secondly a sad day for speedway in general and German speedway in particular. This is the last thing speedway needs, another paralysed rider who will be in a wheel chair the rest of his life. Its been too much of this the past few years with deaths and riers who have become paralyzed im just waiting for the anti-speedway mafia* to start yell "ban speedway!!!, ban speedway!!!". * in Sweden they are more commonly known as media. gypilgrim
I mean come on Brendan WHO?? Total respect to a rider prepared to travel hundreds of miles at personal expense to represent his country. "Rob Lyon isnt in charge of the U21, If I remember correctly, isnt that Dave Crouchers job?" Sorry, but Lyon is in charge of the "Team GB" set up and should take responsibility for this fiasco. Don't blame the monkeys when the organ grinder is in control ! All we have heard for the last two years is "let's develop the youngsters", and we can't even field a full team !!!!!!!! rabbit
Tragic news to hear. It didn't sound good from the earlier reports... How cruel this sport can be. Edited June 1, 2009 by rabbit
Ghostwalker
looking at some photos of the track and it seems to have a static wooden fence all around or did they use airfence for this meeting?
speedy den boy
Very sad for the young German,my thought are with him and his family and just hope against all the odds he can lead a normal life
MunichMassive
Well it could've been avoided because ref mick bates wanted to stop the race because of unsatisfying start. but he didnt turn on red lights right after the start.as i could see he did that as the first 2 riders entered turn 3.that was too late and the crash happend between turn 3 and 4.unfortunately there was no airfence installed This crash was not nessesary, neither was the result of the crash. Ghostwalker
i think in the future all official FIM meetings, U21 team World Cup, U21/19 world/euro champs (including qualifiers) as well as qualifications to the GPs must be held on tracks with airfences. I dont know if this would have helped Petersen but atleast i mght prevent things like this in the future.

Snyper1010
Awful news of poor Sonke I wish him all the best in coming to terms with this dreadful injury. So young and now this. You really cant say anything to sum up what you feel as a fan right now.
speedwaystar84
I apologise for my early outburst regarding Brendon. I didnt mean to take a swipe at him more of the other riders from team GB who DIDNT go to Abensberg. I was there last year when the track was rough for the gp qualifying round and I am sad to hear of the injuries sustained by Sonke. If this is the state of team GB its no wonder that our riders are struggling abroad and in the GPs and WTC. I wish Sonke all the best with his rehabilitation and anything he decides to do next. A young exciting rider who was going to be a great rider!!!
