For whats its worth, its pouring down in Hackney. But if the rain affected meeting from a couple of years ago is anything to go by, this meeting will run whatever, but it's a shame because it will affect the crowd. As a matter of interest how many paying people where at yesterday's practice?

Well those who didn't go obviously guessed it'd be that rubbishy stand-in announcer prattling on as Craig couldn't make it! Thankfully he's back today!

About 20 mins from Rye and the sun is out. Had about 90 mins of rain this morning but reckon we should be ok.

I know, but it's too much of a trek for underwater speedway to be on offer.

Pot luck I reckon. It was like the end of the world here at 10 when we decided against it, but it's glorious now.

A classic case of April showers (3 weeks too late)!

Just as well with those Polish/Russian names ..... I still raise a smile when I remember you trying to pronounce Sayfutdinov :D

As far as the weather goes it's going to be one of those frustrating afternoons of short bursts of sunshine between the clouds ..... the forecasts don't predict any rain until late this afternoon, so we should be ok.

Heat 03:

Pocko - 1

Huckenbeck - X

Wells - 3

Haines - N

Courtney - 2

Time: 58.8

Unsatisfactory start. To be re-run with all 4 riders.

In the re-run Huckenbeck fell on the fourth bend, Haines ploughed into him and caught his bike. The German is OK, but Haines is still down. Haines is ruled out of the meeting. Has a cut on his face and his right arm in a sling. They think he has a broken collarbone!

2nd re-run Wells passed Courtney on the 3rd lap to take the win.

Waiting for an Ambulance for Joe Haines, hence the short break. It appears Joe's injuries are more serious. His right arm and hand are in a bad way. The ambulance has arrived though, so we should be back racing shortly (3.22pm atm)

To be re-run without Zmarzlik. He fell on the 3rd bend as Mear forced his way under him. Mroczka was leading at time! (Bagpuss says My god these Poles can gate!) Zmarzlik was a touch unfortunate to be excluded but someone had to go.

Re-run Mear caught Mroczka on the line, great race says Bagpuss.

Agree iris. Well done the Brits/

Lewis and Tai probably will as I expect them to make the final but the others it will likely be a learning curve.

Would Ward be the youngest ever winner if he won?

One brilliant race between Tai, Lewis Bridger and Kozza Smith that was top class ..... apart from that there wasn't much else to excite ..... There were too many delays and the track was very dry early on with the threat of rain .... Bad news for Rye fans, Joe Haines breaking a hand after the German wobbler locked up in front of him in heat 3 ..... There were some others who were way out of their depth, including Tim Gomez who was very poor ...... Bad luck to Tai who was on course to win the meeting before a puncture in his last race, but congratulations to Rob Mear for winning the meeting ..... Most impressive of the visiting Europeans was Artur Mroczka, who was always in the mix and unlucky not to win at least one race ..... Bridger showed his lack of class after Smith had blocked him well on the last bend of heat 8 buy waiting at the pits gate to remonstrate with Smith who did nothing wrong with that move.

Looks like we'll be missing Joe Haines for a while, and with a trip to Workington and a Northern Tour coming up it couldn't have happened at a worse time ..... Craig Saul announced good news for Rye fans, then announced that Tommy Allen should be back for our visit to Workington on Saturday ..... Still waiting for the good news.
