Niclas
So what do we know about GP Challenge 2009. The first round take place in following places: Pocking, Germany (12the of april), Lonigo, Italy (6th of june), Wiener-Neustadt, Austria (7th of june) och Gorican, Croatia (27th of june). Sweden got five nominations to this first round and another one to the semifinal. So far three swedes has got the offer, since they become top-3 in the national championship last year. These three are Zorro, Jonas Davidsson and Thomas H Jonasson. But it is still not clear if these three will accept their nominations. Another rider who probably will try to get to the GP is Antonio Lindbäck. Peter Karlsson has been talking about give the GP a last chance. Last year both Peter Ljung and Daniel Nermark got to the GP Challenge final but were not able to ride due to injury (Ljung tried but quit after three heats). Finally, Fredrik Lindgren may reach top-8 but if he doesnt will he got another wild card for 2010? Maybe he will try to get to the GP via GP Challenge. But I think following riders will ride for Sweden: THJ, Antonio, PK, Ljung and Nermark. Davidsson will get the nomination for the semifinal in Motala the 4th of July. Anyone who got information about the others countries?

Ghostwalker
i cant really understand why PK is so persistent in trying to reach the GPs again. but on the other hand i dont see that any other rider could take his place in the nominations. Niclas
i cant really understand why PK is so persistent in trying to reach the GPs again. but on the other hand i dont see that any other rider could take his place in the nominations. I agree, I think he turns 40 this year. Last year he said he wont participate in the World Cup because he wants to give a younger rider chance to ride. I think he could use the same argument when the Swedish coach ask him if he wants a nomination for the GP Challenge. But honestly, I dont know if he will ride or not. Because he's still so good, that he treats the qualifiers as a good pay day? Maybe also its important to his sponsors...
T.N.T.
Wouldn't it be great if every rider took part in trying to qualify for the next years series. But how do you get the current stars to ride in these qualifiers ? Maybe they could be given 10 GP points if they reach the GP Challenge or 2 GP points for each qualifier they get through. Would Nicki Pedersen really want to let Jason Crump get an extra 10 GP points without trying to get the same reward. Maybe this way you will ensure the top 15 riders are in the series each year regardless of the country they come from.

Whether its a workable idea, I don't know, but I like the concept that you are proposing there.... unlikely to ever happen given the current closed shop attitude, but hey, you never know. According to the article the following changes will take place: - Only the world champion will be directly qualified for the next year Grand Prix. - The riders from position two until eleven have to qualify to stay in the Grand Prix. But these ten riders will get a free nomination to go straight into the semifinals of the GP Challenge. The rest 22 riders in the semifinals have to qualify the same way as today. - The top-8 from each semi go to the GP-final. - And the top-10 from GP Challenge will qualify for the Grand Prix. - BSI will still nominate four riders for the GP. The qualificationsrounds starts in June and the semifinal and final will take place after the last GP. The reasons to make a new system are, according to Andrzej Grodzki, vice president in CCP, that there are to many old riders in the GP and the difficulty to get to the GP for the young riders. What do you think about this? Personally I like this idea, and if someone of the topriders isnt able to ride, BSI still can nominate that specific rider. Think the top 4 or 6 should get automatic qualification for the next years series, but why should fans have to see qualifiers without them in, which in turn rewards a rider with an extra place. If the British Final, Overseas Final, Inter-Continental Final etc were much more like the old days, then these would be great meetings for the paying public, for the FIM and for Sky to cover as they could follow someone like Tai Woffinden trying to qualify or riders like Bjarne Pedersen trying to get back in. If GP points were available in these rounds, a top class field would be in every qualifier and at the end of te season, the top 15 riders would be there in the series. The GP Challenge is good, but if it had the likes of Fredrik Lindgren, Emil Sajfutdinov, Bjarne Pedersen, Scott Nicholls, Chris Harris etc in, then surely that would be a better meeting and if it also included the top boys, possibly a live Sky meeting. Although the Americans are a bit behind the pace at the moment, the old Overseas Final was a great day out and would now have to be put before the Commonwealth Final which now holds a stronger line up. Sweden has switched one place with Denmark so Denmark get one i Wiener-Neustadt instead of Pocking. Tomas H Jonasson will go for Lonigo in June and Jonas Davidsson is going to Croatia the 27th of June. Zorro got the free seat in the first semifinal in Motala in July. Sweden still has one more rider, but the swedish coach wants to keep that one open until the leagues have started. Any other news about Pocking? bruno
I do wish Sky covered these meetings. Will there be a live link for it do we know? if you had been at last years final at zielona gora you would have seen why sky dont bother.worst meeting ive been to for ages especailly after a 5 hour or somat coach ride with a polish beer hangover
T.N.T.
I do wish Sky covered these meetings. Will there be a live link for it do we know? Maybe if ALL riders had to ride in them, the later stages possibly would be filmed. Its good to see the likes of Lindgren and Harris in there, but surely if Nicki, Crump even Gollob had to go through these rounds it would make these meetings much better for the public and Sky TV. Offer each GP rider 3 points for the last three stages and maybe then you may end up with the top 15 riders in the world in the GP rather than the top 10-12 with a few (no disrespect meant) no hopers making up the numbers
