Sprog1
Extract from the Lakeside forum: "No one was more disappointed than me regarding Friday. The track staff worked until late on Thursday to ensure we produced a decent race track and everything was in place and cleaned. Unfortunately on Friday it all was caused to go pear-shaped through no fault of ours. Basically,a late start, well over two hours of practice with no grading or watering.Back on after 5.15pm - not enough time to water, grade, rip and get some water into the base and relay the track. Then drag on late, with the hardy few only finishing well past midnight - not much fun at all." Make your own judgements as to why the track was as it was last Friday!! What makes it more annoying is that the great and the good of speedways administraters were there- Chris Van Stratten, Jim Lynch and the rest, swanning round with no apparent concern about the delays or the track. How nice it would have been if one of them had taken the microphone to appologise to the fans. It was afer all their event, not a Lakeside promotion. A lot of Lakeside track staff, many of them unpaid volunteers had taken time off work to prepare the track and assist in the organisation generally. It is very annoying for the track staff to have to take all the flack when the real cuprits do not seem to care less or even be aware of the track condition. I hope fair minded fans will not judge Lakeside speedway by this episode. If the BSPA or SGB can't sort out an event like this how do they ever expect to sort out a decent Worls Cup Squad? Thanks for that. CM. Apologies would have gone some way towards mitigating a bad situation, but frankly there can be no excuses. If the track needed relaying then the riders should have been kicked off. Who was organising the event? Is there any professionalism among the echelons? TonyE
The powers that be seem to take the Gordon Brown stance when it comes to apologies! The state of the track was NOT Lakeside's fault but you won't hear anything from the organisers in this respect. I do, however, agree that the Under 21 Final is, perhaps, not the ideal one from the Super 7 to hold at The Arena Essex Raceway.
