Trees
Posted by Roman Chyla on the yahoogroups forum: Reports from the Russian sources indicates that the easy money supply is running dry there, as much as anywhere else. The Russian League in the forthcoming season will consist only four teams, and NO foreign riders. The League starts of May 6th 2009. Oh dear, may mess the plans up of one or two riders? Not at all surprised to hear this. Russia is also affected by the recession. As you say Trees, a blow to some of the foreign riders, who caught the gravy train! It has been known for a long time that the maximum number of teams likely to compete in 2009 was going to be 4. Ukrainian team Chervonograd will be competing in the newly formed Ukrainian League this year rather than in the Russian League as they did last year. It actually seems more likely that the Russian League will consist of just 3 teams, with Salavat also likely to be lost due to sponsor problems. The foreign rider ban decided on early last week was more of a surprise, but isn't likely to hit many riders too hard, as most only did 1 or 2 matches last season anyway. The newly formed Ukrainian League will be allowing foreign riders to compete, but I wouldn't expect to see any big names in that league just yet. Ron Butler
Alas, alack and lack-a-day. So many dreams of rich pickings for the minimum of work have Crumpled into ashes. Oh dear; how sad; never mind eh!

Oh dear; how sad; never mind eh! Ease up Ron, wow talk about a man with a grudge Why on earth do you not want speedway riders to earn money??? Have you not seen that they as a species are clearly a dying breed nowadays?. America is a good example and you don't have to stray far from these shores (indeed, within these shores) to see that there is a pitiful uptake of the sport amongst the young generation. It costs a fortune to participate and now they have the 'Ron Butler Earnings Cap' in place! I was just having a gentle dig at the grass-is-always-greener-on-the- other-side-of hill brigade. Sometimes I get a wee bit mischievous and have a bit of fun. Not all us old codgers are miserable old sods. Great to hear and just put the misunderstanding down to the unemotional nature that goes with texting and posting in forums. Many a scolding i've had from a fair maiden who's took what i typed the wrong way As for your comment 'Not all us old codgers are miserable old sods.', i would never stoop to using such an offensive insult as 'old' lol. I made a point of inserting a smilie next to my grudge as i'm not as regular poster as yourself and didn't want it to come across as a personal attack. As far as i'm aware the number of meetings partaken by individual riders in Russia were always very small in number. Their fixture list was relatively small and i'm certain that foreign riders at each club didn't remotely ride for them every time?. Pollyanna
Russia was NEVER in his plans That's a surprise. It has been stated elsewhere that Crump would be riding for Togliatti this season!
