Goran Anderson

Goran Andersson is supposed to have died following a crash at Aldershot in 1952.

The Speedway Researcher site indicates that he died on 21 July 1952 and, indeed, on that date England 'C' faced Sweden at Aldershot.

I have not yet found any reports as to this death actually taking place. I find it hard to believe that a rider was killed, yet it wasn't reported!

anyone any Info ?

The excellent In Memoriam site states that a Goran Andersson died on 21 July 52 at Aldershot. I have no personal knowledge of this as I was in Egypt and completely divorced from speedway at that time.

Yes, that's why Nigel is querying it, because although the site says that he has found no actual reports of his death from around that time.

According to Vikingarnas homepage, the Örebro-based team Göran Andersson died a year after a testmatch against England at Adlershot, aged 21, the 21st July 1953.

That's possibly the best item of information I have seen. If I can remember correctly, I picked up the original information from Speedway Researcher, and then what little stuff I found led me to believe that everything was correct. Of course, the one thing I couldn't understand either was that there seemed to be no "official" reports, but this new news does go a long way to explaining it.

A thank you to all you gentlemen for your help... It does seem the explanation is an error in dates.

Actually, it doesn't seem that there are any errors. It was just that the information regarding his eventual, tragic death, was never widely known. It was pretty clear that he died as a result of injuries received at Aldershot, but nobody knew when.

It was asummed he died in 1952 and one or to websites etc report his death as 1952. but no reports of his demise have been found for 1952. The fact he died a year later 1953 goes someway to explaining the lack of reports in the press. this error of his date of death seems to have caused the confusion .

Edit ...but

according to the International speedway website http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/intspeedway/engcvswe.htm the match took place 21st July 1952 Goran scored 2 points.. but apparently his death was exactly 12 months later 21-07-1953... bit of a coincidence... can this date be right ?

I´ve send a mail to the clubswebsite to try to sort out a more proper date... and in the same time try to figure out if they knew my dads uncle also named Andersson - still no relative to this unfortunate chap - who were familiar and dragged my dad and his brother in to the pits at nearby Sannahed track , home of the Indians and also into the pits area at Malmoe for the two finals... Wish that dad have had more sense "Whe just folowed KG(uncles name) and was let in everywhere...!

As I said previously, I don't believe it to be as much of an error as a simple lack of complete information. The actual date of death - certainly on my website - was posted merely as a result of the ONLY information that was available, ie the date of the original accident.

As unlikely as it may seem, the fact that he DID ride at Aldershot, and on the 21st of July, 1952 also, and the fact that he seems to have been injured at that time and place, does seem to indicate that it was not only a tragic, but highly coincidental event. It seems that if Lejon can confirm this, it will be a most valuable piece of information.

Thanks, Joakim; I really appreciate your research. As incredible as it seems, it does appear that Goran died exactly a year after crashing at Aldershot.

Thanks again,

Steve
