Adams Wins The Western Big One!

Recommended Posts

Congratulations to Leigh Adams on winning the inaugural Western Big One held at Pinjar Park, Western Australia tonight. An impeccable 5 wins in the meeting proper before taking the final from Simon Stead, Chris Holder and Johnno. Leigh was in a class of his own but there was some great racing on the small Pinjar Park circuit in front of a very large crowd. Simon Stead turned in a spectacular performance after picking himself up from a very nasty looking fall in the heats.

Special mention to Johnno for making it to turn two on the finalists' victory lap before disappearing into the crowd for some well earned liquid refreshment

A great night's entertainment!

Great night! Would never have found you at the bar due to sheer numbers in attendance! So hot, it was 34 degrees at 7pm!

Spoke to Peter Collins in the crowd, and he had just arrived for the annual family holiday!

Some decent photos there but there's none of the main man, Frank Smart. Great to see he was 5th highest scorer in the heats so can still show the youngster s a thing or two.

Why thank you and for your further enjoyment here's a picture of Mr entertainment Frank Smart at the Western Big One

Superb :approve: Seems Frank has still got that same breathtaking smile, oh to see him one last time. Sadly, the last time I saw him race I (and many other Newport fans) did not know it would be the last time, I'm sure we'd all love to see him do one last meeting over here one day.

He most certainly does have a spectacular style does Mr Smart. I've seen him in the last three meetings at Pinjar Park where he went through the card in the first two. He's entertainment plus on on the tight circuit which is probably about as far removed from the County Ground as I'd imagine you can get. He was interviewed over the P.A. and said he does miss racing professionally. From what I've seen my guess is he could still more than hold his own in competitive speedway in the UK. Mr entertainment.

So now I just have to convince Colin Pratt he is worth a 3.7 average :D

Smart was a brilliant rider at PL level, but i am more than convinced he wont ever be riding over here again.

imo his best year was his comeback year in 2002 .

one hell of an entertainer.

been following his aussie scores this winter, and after reading good reviews and outscoring gathercole and proctor in the latest meeting, it more than suggests to me he could still be a heatleader at PL level.

think there was more than what meets the eye about him departing british speedway in the way he did.

but i think its certain smart will never ride league speedway in europe again.

Yeah Stead's fine, unfortunatley Cory picked up on the first turn and the bike careered across the track (on the back wheel no less) and smacked Simon on the side of the head and putting him into the fence, it looked nasty but it takes a lot to keep a good man down.

Daniel is 17 and is a good kid, Leigh is a bit older.

Not certain but I'm pretty sure Cory & Ty hadn't ridden the postage stamp that is Pinjar Park before, Ozyace. Couldn't agree more that he would be a top PL heatleader if he wanted to, but.

PS How good was Justin this year eh?

Ty raced here last month in the Craig Hodgson memorial & Boujos is 28 or 29 .

Awesome nights racing and word is it will be televised at some time .

I stand corrected, Mr Cobra. Hopefully he managed to borrow a decent Bike.

May I call you Carroll?
