Can anyone help http://londonspeedways.proboards.com/index.cgi with information on tracks at Barnet and Elstree please. All that is known so far is probably periods that they ran. Thanks.

There is a Post on the London Speedways claiming Elstree was a cycle speedway - not a speedway - and was something to do with the Brines.

Elstree ran a total of nine meetings altogether, with the first one taking place on the 10th August, but I don't know any results etc. Evidentally, Arthur Humphrey controlled all nine meetings on the track which was a grassy field covered in oil.

Barnet staged its first meeting on the 27th July 1929 and operated until the end of 1936. Until 1934, it was a grass-track circuit, before cinders were put down. Former Norwich promoter Gordon Parkins took a few rides at the circuit prior to turning his full time attentions to the administrative side of the sport.

When the lease at the Barnet Bypass site expired in April 1937, the promotion moved their operation to High Beech.

It might be good if you made your forum easier to access.

I don't want to register as a member until I know what kind of site I'm registering on; I may (or may not) be able to make a valuable or interesting contribution to your forum, but I don't know if I can, because I don't have the opportunity to find out if it's the kind of site I might like.

Ditto....most sites allow you to read them without having to register, registering only if you want to post a comment.

Should the late 1950s training track at Chiswick be added as a former London speedway?

And Crayford...

Well, Crayford (disregarding its alleged '30s incarnation - as a grass speedway track I believe.. ), as a League track was ALWAYS in a London Borough (LB Bexley...) as opposed to an UDC of Kent...

High Beech and Hoddesdon are not and never have been in London Boroughs.. Barnet & Staines are now..: but not sure if there were when Speedway was there; and fairly certain the same would've applied to Elstree and certainly Greenford...

And Thurrock (where Arena Essex is...) has also never been in a London Borough

So, yes, actually Crayford is far more of a London track than any of those other ones...!!! :approve:
