wjm
Bad mouthing a fellow competitor isn't opinion. It's sour grapes and very unprofessional. Nah just an opinion.
sheffieldscot
If that's true then Ward and Proctor have gone way down in my estimations and are very sore losers and as bad as some of the posters on here. Offered my congratulations to young Darcy after the meeting outside the panorama room, and got blanked, should have saved my breath
Shoddy
well for all those that thought home track adv. was the key then darcy and ty would agree with you all. i was lucky enough to interview both of them for the official dvd after the prize ceremony and to say they were both upset would be an understatement . Also they were both very vocal in damming Ashworth and slagging off the home ttrack advantage theory both saying that if you took Ashworth out of sheffield then the result would be a lot different. i found it a bit sad that they both couldnt find it in themselves to congratulate the champion but even worse to slag him off was more than over the top. will be worth getting the dvd from www.cleancutsports.com to see some pretty poor sportmanship IMO. as for the home track advantage. what a load of rubbish Rickeeeeeeeeee had to ride to win that meeting and he did sheffield and great britain proud.before the meet he was so nervous but he got hold of himself and pulled out the bag a well deserved and great great victory ...well done mate... great stadium great crowd great day..... It is poor sportsmanship but Ward is very young and has a lot to learn and he was denied the PLRC title by home track advantage whatever anybody says. Perhaps he should spend more time looking at how to pick the right gate though?!? As for Proctor, who I'd like to say rode excellently and is a top prospect, perhaps we should give in and remove Ricky from the results? Well done Ty - you came second! Serious this type of 'poor' attitude is probably lacking in some of our kids to be honest! Where the hell do the Aussies find this string of riders with no real league setup whilst we fail with the Conference League in place? It can only be down to attitude - I'm just thankful Woffinden decided not be join them, can you imagine Holder, Woffinden, Ward & Proctor in the World Cup for the next however many years? Bang on the money Shoddy, they are seriously motivated kids with attitude in most cases. They produce quality riders year in and year out in the land of OZ. They hate getting beat, are very talented and driven to succeed. Qualities we could well do with more of in our own shores. One man had all that on the day though...........Ricky Ashworth

comet49
I was there and enjoyed it, Darcy's behaving like it's the first big setback he's had. I didn't want a young Aussie winning it in his first season, nor Howe who was Elite last year. I've always rated Ty but from what I've read I'm glad Ricky won. He didn't expect to, hasn't been unbeatable at home this year, rode well on the night with pressure on him, well done Ricky.
Silver Bee
rode well on the night with pressure on him, well done Ricky. Woah what? Not what the Sheffield announcer said over and over again. There was clearly no pressure on him as it was his first PLRC.
comet49
Ok, but still in front of his home crowd, he did it when it mattered, end of, and it's not like Sheffield riders win it every year. More pressure on him next year tho. Edited September 29, 2009 by comet49
Alan_Jones
There wasn't much wrong with the track at Rye House, just the standard of NL wobblers (bar the top four) on show. I don't think you go to enough NL matches to be able to draw that conclusion. The track was awful for the first two heats, being too wet for comfort on the outside, which is why grading was started two heats earlier than the norm. Plenty of 'PL wobblers', with averages higher than any of the home team, get caught out by the 'black hole'. Sunday's Weymouth match, for whatever reason, provided much more entertainment. Local Boy
Did Ricky Ashworth choose the venue for the PLRC then? If not, all you whiners (including it appears some of his fellow competitors) should just shut up and congratulate the guy for a brilliant performance. Whoever won the event could only beat the riders who were there by performing on the track selected by the authorities. Anything other than "Many congratulations Ricky" is just plain bad manners and bad sportsmanship.

So...if it had been at KL...and people had said it was home track advantage had Darcy won, we shouldn't blame him as he didn't pick the track? I appreciate that they can only ride the track they are given, but if one rider rides that track every week, the chances are they are going to perform better than if the meeting is held at any other track. I applauded Ricky when he won, but I still can't help but feel that a) He isn't as good a rider as some of the previous winners, and on any other track in the league the result would have been a different one. The~SAINT
It should not be the case that this meeting is handed out in an auction with the prize going out to the highest bidder and nothing else being taken into account. Surely the supporters and their wishes should be considered ? another factually incorrect post!!! it is not 'auctioned' it is voted on by members of the BSPA. please check your facts before trying to criticise people. No, it's not bad manners and bad sportsmanship, it's called a discussion on the merits and drawbacks of using a track with a proven home advantage to stage the most prestigious individual event in the Premier League! Yes, Ricky did well to win, there can be no doubt that on that track, on that day, he was the best rider. Unfortunatly, due to it being his home track, there will always be people questioning if he could have repeated it on any other track in the league!
