As a Workington fan started this thread - then obviously they fancy their chances of retaining the title . Maybe , maybe not - Doolan and Rymel are good riders , but not as good as Nermark and Neiminen .

Too early to start thinking about stuff like this though . What is the qualifying process for getting there - is it average based or the same silly method as last year ? Most teams have a decent heat-leader pairing this season , so really anyone is in with a chance .

Two things are certain however - it will be a cracking meeting on the best circuit in the country and you will have to leave home really early cause the M5 on a Friday teatime is a complete nightmare . We got in at Heat 6 in 2007 and how we made it for the start last season was nothing short of miraculous .

Pretty difficult to argue with any of that. I have to say I thought Somerset produced some fantastic racing at the Pairs in 2008, here's hoping for more of the same.

I think Wilson could average 8.5 which could very well make him our number 2, and plus think Havvy could easily give it a miss lol

Havvy certainly didn't seem too interested at last season's event .

Total agree with you Paulco.

Keith Denham gives us all this crap about Doolan & Rymel having a higher combined average than Nermark & Nemo. Wot a load of crap i would say Nermark is them best of the 4 closely followed by Nemo then Doolan & Rymel. So i know which pair i would prefer.

IMO Denham has lost all of the main caracheters out of the Workington team. Stoney has been treated like dirt after all he has done for the club & a gut should have been BURST to get Nemo back for 2009!!

Cannot take anything any from Keith he has worked hard for the club and from were im standing it looks like he only wants the best from his riders, with him being a lifelong supporter of the Comets my guess is he must have alot of faith in the riders he has signed.

As you can tell by my username, im a massive Stoney fan- and nothing or no-one will ever take away what he did for the club and i wish him well and will try to get up to Redcar to watch him, but regarding him leaving workington we dont no what talks were had or what was said between him and the promotion.

Nermark and Nemo i cannot argue are great riders and i would have welcomed them back with open arms, but for whatever reason they have moved on and again i wish them luck, but there are in the past now and im sure most teams would give their right arm to have the riders like Rymel and Doolan in there team just ask Berwick or Kings lynn! :approve:

There are alot of teams worst off then us, we have a very exicting team for 2009 and i cant wait to see them out on track im sure us Comets fans will see some more Silverware this year- C'mon lets get behind our new team!!!!! :approve: I have no doubts they will do there best for us.

I am not a Comics fan, but I still fancy Rymel & Doolan for the pairs.

A very honest fan i must say . But you cant ignore talents such as Doolan and Rymel of whom i dont need to tell you about.

Well i hope your right 'balderdash&piffle' but it will be a well fought out one, as already said lets hope we are all injury free come the pairs night.

And good luck to all.

there is a cracking pub near the track. As you come off the m5 for burnham you come to the roundabout where you turn left for the track if you go right at the roundabout there is a cracking boozer there called the fox and goose. Nice food and drink with a skittle alley to boot. Also attached to the pub is a hotel called the brent knoll lodge

I'll let Johno know, he loves a good game of skittles after a nights racing :P

Are you out of your mind?

Wilson won't average more than 6 away this year, meaning that he'd have to average around 11 points at home for your statement to come true.....that's not going to happen.

I second that Paulco.....this meeting is a full FIVE months away....far too early to predict who the pairings will be, let alone who will win....Birmingham fans will know how injuries can play a HUGE part in who will line up for the respective sides.....You can't blame Workington fans for getting a little over excited though, time will tell.

As for the journey down...I've done the trip a good few times now and it is horrendous IF you leave it late. Whenever I go to Somerset I try to leave my home in North London around 1.30pm, trying to clear the M5 south of Bristol by 4pm, before the worst of the traffic.....One year we even tried going through Bristol and taking the A38 all the way, but that was worse, especially when you get stuck behind a bleedin' caravan!!!

There's a Hungry Horse pub a couple of miles from the track on the road into Burnham where you can get a decent meal, that's not a bad place to spend a couple of hours should you decide to miss the worst of the traffic and get there early ;)

Shadders, There is another way - especially coming down here from the ol' smokey place - Try M3, A303 A358 and join M5 at Junction 25 and go north

PROUD TO BE A REBEL

Cheers Whistler.....Womble told me of a similar route going through Glastonbury.....I may try that when I come down for the PL meeting in August.....if anything it'll be more scenic than the boring old M4!!

Rymel & Doolan is a good shout but i wouldnt be surprised to see Adam Roynon representing the comets for this one!! He goes well at the Oak Tree and is a young Brit.

Although i wouldnt rule out the likes of Glasgow, messers Parker and Grieves or even Newport with the likes of Lemon, Watson, Kerr and Frampton to choose from!

The Fox & Goose is still there, but the skittle alley is now a American diner

Parker and Greives will be a very strong pairing if they are both firing, but as you say Workington could have Roynon in the pairs if he has a good season he will be kept busy with Comets and the Bees.

Parker and Grieves are normally terrible around the OTA, especially Grieves.

Although as mentioned if Workington go with Doolan and Roynon then they could well be onto a winner before the meeting even starts. Doolan has always scored well here, as has Roynon after scoring 16 (..from memory) last season.
