2004 GP Wild Cards

Recommended Posts

Anyone have any ideas as to the 2004 wild cards. Who deserves one and who will get one may not be the same thing.

I suspect that Mark Loram will get one and maybe Lee Richardson, but what about Lukas Dryml and M.Max. The'll need Drymal for Czech interest, but I think Max could be blown out.

I'd be interested in anyone elses opinion.

Also if Protesiewicz qualifies automatically will Simon Stead take a place...

Not sure of who is in the top 10!

But what about Hans Andersen and Andreas Jonsson???

Both had a few very strong performances and had they both not ben in a crash in the gp a few weeks back they both could have been in the final

I think we will only get one brit back in with Scotty already in the top10(lets hope he stays there)

OK,

Top 10

Jason Crump

Nicki Pedersen

Tony Rickardsson

Leigh Adams

Tomasz Gollob

Greg Hancock

Scott Nicholls

Ryan Sullivan

Rune Holta

Andreas Jonsson

Qualifiers

Piotr Protasiewicz

Bjarne Pedersen

Bo Brhel

Ales Dryml

Jesper Jensen

Kaj Laukkanen.

That Leaves out

Lukas Dryml

Mikael Max

Tomasz Bajerski

Lee Richardson

Hans Andersen

Mark Loram

Todd Wiltshire - Retiring

Peter Karlsson

Jason Lyons

Kris Cegielski - Injured

Ronni Pedersen

That qualified 16 works out like this.

DEN - 3

AUS - 3

POL - 2

CZE - 2

SWE - 2

FIN - 1

GBR - 1

NOR - 1

USA - 1

The fact that Denmark has 3 qualifiers may force Hans Andersen out.

Loram & Nicholls should probably get seeded as Britain only has Scott, but Cardiff does not rely on fans supportting the Brits as say Poland does so both may not be neccassery business wise.

As the biggest Speedway Nation I expect Poland to get two of these nominations. Most definatly Bajerski and Hampel, especially after Jarek showed what he could do in Bydgoszcz.

I expect Sweden to gain another rider, especially with two GP's there this season. I expect that they will get one place which will be a battle of the brothers, however neither have shown their true form in the GP's this year but I don't really see anybody in Sweden who is ready for the GP's yet (Plenty ready in a few years tho).

The next place is most definatly going to go to Lukas Dryml. Despite there being 2 qualified Czech's already.

As for the final place, who knows!

My 6

Lee Richardson

Mikael Max

Tomasz Bajerski

Lukas Dryml

Jarek Hampel

???????

Last place between

Hans Andersen

Mark Loram

Peter Karlsson

Tomas Topinka

Matej Zagar

Billy Janniro

Matze Schultz (German Champion)

Remember, this is my opinion.

Very intelligent and well put case you've made there Tom. And I think I have to agree with you, particularly on Andersen, Max, Dryml.

In selecting the six, it must be a case of weighing up both who merits it and who is most marketable. I just hope the latter factor doesn't mean the series carries a untested German at the expense of someone like Mark Loram.

My view is that if the German GP is in Berlin then a German rider shouldn't be needed as a large number of Poles could easily travel there.

I also think that next season, riders shouldn't need to ride in both the qualifying and GP series. Instead, a GP challenge should be run with -

12 Non-Qualifying GP riders

Next 4 From GP Qualifying meeting

World Under 21's 1st and 2nd

Top 6 Wildcards/Reserve riders from the GP series.

That would make a meeting like this, this year line-up as

Lukas Dryml

Piotr Protasiewicz

Mikael Max

Tomasz Bajerski

Lee Richardson

Hans Andersen

Bjarne Pedersen

Mark Loram

Todd Wiltshire

Bo Brhel

Jason Lyons

Kris Cegielski

----

Joonas Kylmakorpi

Simon Stead

Rafel Dobrucki

Billy Janniro

----

Jarek Hampel

Rafel Szomberski

----

Peter Karlsson

Ronni Pedersen

Tomas Topinka

David Howe

Peter Ljung

Roman Povazhny

Then the next riders in qualifiyng final coming in to replace those who are injured/retiring.

These are my six:

* Mark Loram (would have finished higher but injured)

* Lee Richardson (put in some decent performance - deserves another chance like Nicholls last year and look at him now)

* Lukas Dryml (would have been up there challenging IMO but injured - definitely deserves a place)

* Tomas Bajerski (proved himself this year - deserves another go)

* Hans Andersen (He's young and has had injuries as well)

* Billy Janniro (he could cope and think he could prove to be interesting)

As ever it will be interesting to see which way Benfield go with their selections.

In the 1st year of picking 6 seeds they looked to increase the number of Poles (Pepe, Seb and cegielski?) an extra Swede (Jonsson) and a Norwegian and Slovenian (Rune and Ferjan). This was at the expense of Screeny who had been injured most of the season.

Last year I think they plumped for the next 6 in the standings.

My guess would be Lukas, Lee, Max for definite with either Hampel or Bajerski (possibly both) and hopefully Loramski getting a spot in front of Hans Andersen.

Think Mark as a recent World Champ deserves a slot given that he has been injured most of this year, but am a bit worried that they may not see fit to seed 2 Brits.

I want Billy J to get a wild card!

They need to have a yank in the GP to balance it out!

Sorry "Oh no etc" be really surprised if John Poshbloke lets an American in after pulling out the World Cup.

Mark Loram and Lee Richardson are my hopes for the Wild Cards

Cant see any new guys getting in to be honest - Peter Karlsson will be the loser out of the usual 2003 GP guys.

It will Be

Lee Richardson

Lukas Dryml

Hans Andersen

Mark Loram

Michael Max

Thomas Bajerski

If any are in danger then it is Max and Loram - I think these six and the 6 qualifiers will be in dire trouble if they dont qualify next year.

Perhaps it would be a better idea to have 4 qualifiers for a 4 round mini grand prix with the top 6 qualifying - I dont see the point of a sudden death final choosing qualifiers for a multi round final

  • 2 weeks later...

:D the wild cards must be:

L. Dryml average for 5 GP 11.6 point

H. Andersen average for 6 GP 6.85 point

L. Richardson average for 7 GP 6.42 point

M. Max average for for 9 GP 5.77

T. Bajerski average for 9 GP 5.66 point

M. Loram average for 6 GP 5.33 point

if Cegielski will be fit his average is 7.5 for 2 GP, he must in instead of Loram.

Thats just my opinion

I think you are spot on and I really feel for the guy who has to make the decision as, how do you get rid of the most exciting rider in top class speedway (Loram) because he had an injury plagued season. I can't see Cegielski making it in time though - it all depends how honest he is about it and how soon for Loram
