Just spoken to Steve and all is about ready for the big off. I am finishing all the paperwork , making sure all my bits are done, checked and double checked then get it all in the case and get some shut eye as up at 6 am to be there by 7.30 / 8 !!

We will all give a big sigh of relief when heat 21 , the Grand Final is over --it's going to be a great day!! :approve:

Am sure it will be a great meeting and a fitting tribute to Tim Stone.

Good Luck to the riders and all at Newport Speedway.

Well done to Kev on a great start to the season and I hope the meeting was a great success for the new promotion.

Any news on the injured riders, especially Wato? The poor bloke has had so much bad luck with injuries it would be so cruel for him to get injured again, especially after starting with 3 heat wins.

A nice day weatherwise but the injuries spoiled the day in terms of speedway. A good sized crowd at Newport, boosted by plenty of people like me who'd generally watch speedway on other tracks. The racing was typical of an opening meeting individual event, not particularly exciting but nice to see racing again.

The first major incident was Craig Watson's accident in Heat 12, he seemed to simply loose control on the inside of the second turn leading to him career towards the fence. Unfortunately he hit the wooden fence not the airfence, Mark Lemon did well to avoid Watson's bike which was bouncing across the track. Craig was treated on the track for quite a time before being taken away in the ambulance. News was of pain in the upper leg.

In the very next race Jason Doyle fell on the first bend on the second or third lap, hurting his shoulder in the process. Again there was a delay in proceedings and the ambulance was required.

These unfortunate delays meant the meeting was reduced from 20 qualifying heats to 16. Mads Korneliussen withdrew after his second ride in which he had mechanical problems. Not sure why klindt withdrew.

A big shame about the injuries, but great that Newport are back on track, i'm sure there are many who doubted that would happen.
