Robins legend Kilby, 64, dies

2:01pm Sunday 11th January 2009

 

SWINDON speedway hero Bob Kilby died this morning at the age of 64.

Swindon-born Kilby, a member of the legendary 1967 British League title-winning team, passed away at his home in Stratton St Margaret.

Kilby, who rode for Swindon in three spells over a 20-year period, was revered as the best-ever Swindon-born rider and also mentored other famous town riders, including current Robins boss Alun Rossiter and Malcolm Holloway.

Very sad news, truly one of speedways gentlemen. fondly remembered in Australia fo his performances in the 1972/3 Lions tour and his top score in Perth in the first test match RIP

Yep Sandie - sorry, posted this and spotted the other thread afterwards.

 

Nothing to be sorry for.

 

I personally didnt know him but he must have such a lovely guy as three diffeent people set up three different threads.

Obviously a very popular gentleman and someone who will be missed by his friends and supporters :(

I always recall Bob as a second string with Swindon in 1965-along with Mike Keen-Mike sometimes looked a better prospect than Bob to me. I am sure that Mike, great trier though he was and a credit to the sport in every way, wouldn't object to me saying that Bob really ended up becoming the star of that group of juniors.Anyone know by the way the closest Bob got to making a World Final appearance. I think he came close a couple of times.
