I have vivid memories of going to the Belle Vue funfair with my dad, then queueing up to the Hyde Road track for the evening match in 1976 with Dancing Queen by Abba playing. Sometime before that, I remember In the Summertime by Mungo Jerry playing at BV. And Fanfare for the Common Man by ELP and Tokyo Melody, obviously.

All of the above songs I always associate with great days at the best ever speedway track! :D

I always remember close to you by the Carpenters being played at Canterbury

My abiding memories as a kid at Canterbury were leaning right over the fence on the third bend and taking a face full of shale. I guess it was our way of saying to Dave Piddock, Les Rumsey and your uncle Ted that we were "Close To You"...!!!:lol:

Oh dear Parsnips old fruit, does Dick know you swopped allegiance from the Crusaders to the Kestrels? Or haven't you been brave enough to tell him?

'Tis true that when I started going to Speedway in 1972 (not 1932 like yourself!!! ), it was during Crayford's interregnum and so 'twas indeed at Kingsmead where my allegiances lay..!!

Would've been a good subject to discuss in the box at the OGS I'm sure...: but you know what happens, Mr. Williams leaves the country for a bit and whoops, there goes another Kent league track....

Songs at Foxhall when I started going, through the years...

Tie A Yellow Ribbon, heard that on the car radio yesterday funnily enough, took me right back

to a Witches V Falcons meeting....

The meeting was started with the Trackstaff lining up in the pits whilst 'A Walk In The Black Forest'

played, then I think they marched out to 'Entry of the Gladiators'....

As already listed on here.

Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep

Boom Bang A Bang

Waterloo by ABBA......

and many many more.

Crikey there were so many, all seem to take me back to the 70's speedway

when I hear them these days... strangely enough certain records are associated

with certain meetings with me for some reason.... I have no idea why.

The one tune I remember above all others is "Old Comrades". This was the march used at the start of meetings at the real "Theatre of Dreams" the Firs Stadium here in Norwich. All the Red Cross & Track Staff marched out to it. No-one was allowed to have a fag on or slouch along with hands in pockets either, my Dad always told me Dick Wise used to put everyone on parade before the meeting started so things got done right. On a Saturday night when I am at home now I play the tune from utube, sit back and close my eyes and watch this spectacle in my dream that "Norwich Speedway is back"

One record that used to drive me mad at Exeter in the 70's was called 'A horse with no name' by a group called America. I dont think they had many singles at Exeter in those days lol !

....Not to mention "Bits and Pieces" by the dave Clark Five in the 60's, all us kids would bang the metal safety fence in the drum bit, no other fence had the same tone !!

The only song I can remember from Brandon during 70's and 80's was Andy Williams "May each day".

Everytime I hear it now all I can think of is walking out through the grandstand tunnel going home.

What do you mean during the 70's and 80's? If you stay right until the bitter end it's still played at Brandon. Well, it was but I suppose it will be getting the boot again this season now Superbart is back.
