They've since deleted all my attempts to get an explanation as to why.. Glad your posting hasn't suffered the same fate. Yes spectators are welcome - though need day club membership - see someone in charge down at the track!! And see you there!! D. PS I'll be less cold as will be in the box on mic duty!!! Dave Stummings
Sence has pro-valed and the thread is still here, well done! I assume with the extreley heavy frost here in the capital it's as bad in sunny Iwade? I also assume this means the track will have stood up to the rather cold night and is not frozen as no posts to say otherwise? Will be wrapping up and will put the shorts in the automobile just in case the sun comes out!
Bryn
And see you there!! D. PS I'll be less cold as will be in the box on mic duty!!! Ah but will there be the bulky Incident Recorder there to shelter you from the through draught as he went "oop north" for Xmas?
lucifer sam
Ah but will there be the bulky Incident Recorder there to shelter you from the through draught as he went "oop north" for Xmas? Is it safe to be up in the box without Chris anchoring it down? I'd hate for the box to blow away while Parsnips was in full flow on the mic. Shadders
Just back from a very cold Iwade.....just about the coldest I've been at a speedway meeting. Didn't stay for the second half, but here are the scores from the Club Challenge Match. Sittingbourne Colts 74 1. Mark Baseby 14 (from 5) 2. Jamie Dixon 2 (5) 3. Dan Berwick 9 (5) 4. Richard Andrews 5+3 (5) 5. Aaron Baseby 13+1 (5) 6. Rikki Mullins 11+3 (5) 7. Harland Cook 9+1 (5) 8. Michael Bovis 11+3 (5) The Windmills 45 1. Jannick de Jong 15 (7) 2. Jesper Veldhulzen 2 (5) 3. Henry van der Steen 11 (6) 4. Richard Kopples 0 (3) 5. Wim de Haas 2+1 (5) 6. Wim Kannis 5 (5) 7. Willy Kannis 9 (5) 8. Sjors de Jong 1+1 (5) (Wim de Haas fell and excluded in ht 15, replaced by Henry van der Steen). Star rider for the visitors was Jannick de Jong who would have scored more but for a couple of engine failures at the start of his first and fifth races. He also posted the fastest time of 59.7, the only sub minute time of the match. There were around a hundred or so spectators there braving the freezing conditions. BobC
Shadders, dear boy, that was positively warm compared to Boston vs Weymouth Play-off Final! Entertaining meeting, with varying degrees of experience and ages, from 16 to 50+. Jannick de Jong is fabulous to watch.I love watching him on grass, and hes very accomplished at Long Track too.Definitely one to look out for once he finishes his studies at College.Well done to ALL of the travelling entourage, many complete with families.Good knowledgable crowd.I hope you all enjoyed your experience, and had a safe journey home. My observations of the day.Advertised as 11am start, yet didnt get under way till 11.40.With a projected 46 heats of racing to get through,Im still a bit bemused why it wasnt started on time.I understand the need to give the visitors practice, but why the home riders? By then I was freezing me wotsits off! This meeting finished at 1.30pm.On previous occasions,I have complained about the state of the track.Today,I must admit, its was the best Ive ever seen it. At 2.20pm we still hadnt started the club individual. Some riders went out on parade, others didnt.Ben Morley was happily chatting away, and only looked up when his name was mentioned! Very lax organisation,me thinks. The idea to incorporate the 2 meetings is a good one. However,on chilly days like this, how about thinking of us fans on the terraces? It needed swift and sharp presentaion,to keep things moving.Sadly,I got so fed up,I left before the Club Individual started.Shame really, because with very little extra effort,it would have been so much better. Spent some of the time standing with ArnieG,and had a word or two with Parsloes, and George and Linda Barclay.Pleased I made the effort to go.Finally remembered I had toes by the time I got back on the M3!!! However, please, please, please speed things up.There was no need to let things drag on like that.
Parsloes 1928 nearly
Sorry about the periods of delay. I do agree with you these are bad from a spectator point of view - especially when so cold. Full marks to all those fans who did attend (especially Bob C's heroic effort coming up from the Dorset coast.. ). The reality is that this was a "competitive practice" event and I guess the club's line would be that, by definition, this means it's predominantly for the riders; though better organisation certainly should be the case.. Anyhow, the New Year's Trophy event panned out as follows: Richard Andrews 3 3 3 3 3 15 Geert Myer 3 3 3 1 3 13 Ben Morley 3 2 3 2 3 13 Lee Lingham 3 3 2 3 Fx 11 Phil Spencer 2 1 2 3 3 11 Theun Veldhuizen 2 2 3 2 2 11 Ray Tillman 2 3 0 1 2 8 Marcel Maas 1 1 2 2 2 8 Gert Ollie 0 2 1 2 1 6 Rob Snow 1 2 1 1 1 6 Dennis Cairns 0 R NS 3 2 5 Henk de Jonge 1 1 2 0 1 5 Chris Neame 0 1 1 1 NS 3 Arthur Sharp R R R NS NS 0 Mark Bibby injured in practice
Shadders
Just looking at Google maps and noticed that there is the outline of what looks like an old track to the east of the training track. Is THIS the original track?
IAN2
No that was a banger racing circuit. Nothing to do with us but a source of some of our long standing noise problems.
Shadders
Only one complaint (apart from the cold) and that was the catering. Why on earth did they use the smallest frying pan in the world resulting in a 20 minute wait for a bacon sandwich?
