pirate paul
Should be a cracking meeting, hope Mr Poole gets the turn out he deserves. As a side note, if any Newcastle fns are planning coming down by plane, give me a shout, I'm sure I can arrange some transport between Southampton airport and the stadium. tidgy
Why is he ? I have done 27 years service to my company and I work 50 hours a week for them, after 25 years I got a watch. So a speedway rider of this level (and this is not a personal thing to Pedersen) takes an absolute fortune in points money out of a country which is not his home country, rides for numerous other clubs all over the world, not dedicated to just one employer and is then entitled to a testimonial which will net him what............£25k, probably more Sorry, absolute garbage in todays world. I say scrap testimonials, I am all for helping riders who suffer life changing injuries but this type of charity should stop immediately. If you dont agree with it then dont go. Barne fans and Poole fans in general will turn out for him i'm sure.

There are many fans coming down to see a great lineup with riders with Diamond history. At the mo attempts are being made for a bus to come down on the Wednesday, stay over night and return home on the Thursday. Thanks for the offer, it is appreciated and you may have a take up on the offer yet. Ta.

Tsunami
No one coming by sea then? We could be waiting for you on Poole Quay for "When the boat comes in!" Thought that the 'Fog on the Tyne' might follow us down so settling for the bus. Plane was considered, only about £9 I think but logistics were a bit daft so the bus it is. Mark
I have to agree with Chris Brown's post in parts. When a rider gets a career ending injury then let's have a meeting to raise funds. Also when a rider has given maybe 15 years service to the sport then let's have a testimonial. There are too many testimonials now. They should be special events & for really long service to one club or the sport in general. The riders at the top end like Bjarne ( but this isn't a dig at him ) earn really good money so why should they get even more ? Testimonials should be for those who have entertained over a very long period & for those who need the cash like Kim J at Ipswich. PETER-COUSINS
As reported on the Poole Speedway news page, here, Bjarne Pedersen will stage his testimonial meeting at Wimborne Road on the 18 March 2009. The meeting will feature a Poole Pirates team versus a team to represent Newcastle Diamonds, Bjarne's first club in the UK. I am privileged to be serving on the organising committee and my first task is to start an “official” thread to keep people in touch with developments. Although the date is set, it is still very early days and there are lots of ideas and plans still in development. Right now we are looking for people who would like to be involved with Bjarne by becoming sponsors to the event. There are opportunities for Race and Rider Sponsors as well as fuel and programme sponsors or advertisers. If you would like to know more please feel free to contact me by email to talkpirates@yahoo.com You can also contact any of the other testimonial committee members, Gordon Day, Stan and Val Vatcher or David Adams. Whatever happens put the date in your diary and come along to support a former Diamonds hero and current Pirates skipper. Best wishes, Nij

Blazeaway
Surely its pretty simple, even for an Oxford fan. Testimonials are there for the fans to pay tribute to a favourite rider, they are entertained by a speedway meeting and the rider pockets the cash. Whats the flamin' problem? he fact Bjarne is an overseas rider shouldn't even come into it. British riders are afforded the same opportunity. It's a shame they don't hand out testimoninials for services to whining and complaining because you Mr Brown would be top of the list. Tsunami
Travel down to Bjarne's Testimonial is now being organised through the Official Newcastle Speedway Supporters Club. In order to make the arrangements, a special email address has been created in order that fans can indicate their interest and how many places they require. The email address is travel@newcastlespeedway.net and the details of the proposed trip can be seen on the opening page of www.newcastlespeedway.net It's a 2 day affair and the crack should be good. Be there.

If you read what I have written (which you cannot have done) I have no issue whatsoever with Bjarne Pedersen. I am questionning the whole concept of a testimonial. Surely a rider entertains the fans every week and gets well paid for it. In this environment where people are losing their jobs for fun then in my opinion (which are entitled to disagree with) it is obscene for a rider to pocket cash from a testimonial. Sure I do not have to go and people have a choice whether to do so or not. I just think thsat in todays climate its wrong for ANY rider to benefit from a testimonial other than those who have serious injuries. Sad that you make it personal but I guess that is the only way you can deal with a debate. Do try to accept that there may be an opinion other than yours !! rabbit
Travel down to Bjarne's Testimonial is now being organised through the Official Newcastle Speedway Supporters Club. After-show party eh? Sounds very rock and roll Seriously though, good luck with this - would be great to see some Diamonds fans make the trip to the deep south. Hope it gets the interest deserved.
