Billy Hamill Farewell - Wolverhampton 22 March

Recommended Posts

Nice post, cheers. You certainly missed out on something a bit special. It was always a case of beat Wolves first and foremost and then see how we get on against the rest. Colin Pratt has never forgotten the rivalry either. A few years ago in a Sky interview he said words to the effect that as long as they (Coventry) beat Wolves he was happy. I think it's great that we will see riders that lived and breathed the rivalry. :approve:

I saw Alan take on Andy in match races at B'ham a couple of years ago, and I have to say that Alan in particular still looked good on the bike. I often wonder where people like Alan, Andy, Graham and Wayne could be tempted into riding with the youngsters in the CL/NL. They would have soooooo much to offer the British kids, and could teach them a thing or two about team riding (Big Al was a master). That's something which is largely missing these days.

Yes, that slipped my mind at the time of posting. I was just using these particular riders to make a point to be honest. Giving riders such as these a chance to pass on their knowledge by actually getting out on track would be a good move all-round I'd have thought. Surely they still have a passion for the sport and would enjoy the chance to do some laps on a semi-regular basis, and what better way for the youngsters to learn than to actually be out on track with riders that have been there and done it?

Anyway, I'm driftting off topic as usual so should probably stop.

Remember getting excited on a saturday preparing for the big match.

Walking in through the turnstiles with the Wolves fans standing the length of the back straight but mainly near the burger van on the exit of turn 2.

Mothers sitting knitting and showing each other the family photos but as soon as Sam was in front the abuse started with that Erma- len-ko chap getting it shouted every which way and he was this, that and the other!!

My dad worked throughout the midlands on a daily basis but the best was visiting a bacon factory in Lye with a ginger fella who was a right nutter for the Heathens, cant remember his name but he was a proper fruitcake.

As mentioned, Wayne does run the mini-track at Scunthorpe and a funnier, nicer guy you could not wish to have rip the piss out of you. 21st, some time this season you'll have to join me and Silver Bee at Scunny for an afternoon on the minitrack ;) Wayne was riding CL for Scunny for a couple fo seaosn but smashed his leg up badly and decided to retire and stick with helping the youngster at Scunthorpe, thought he does still have a spin on the mini track to show us all how it's done, certainly has done the 2 times I've been there.

It's a real shame I did miss out, but my Dad often tells me about fans packed in all around the track rather than just the one straight, it's a shame monmore doesn't seem to see those crowds anymore. I think the closest we will come will be Billy's farwell and the cradley wolves event will have attracted most of the fans there, as it has me. Let's hope in the next few years Cradley Heath will "rise from the ashes" and the old local rivalry can carry on where it left off :)

I'm really pleased fans from both sides are relishing the Wolves Cradley event. I just get the feeling its going to be quite intense and any Wolves fans that do not realize this yet will feel the old vibes once they arrive on the 22nd and see the Cradley fans in their old spot. I'm also very happy that a whole new generation of fans of who were either very young or not yet supporters from the old days will get to experience this. What started off as a celebration day is actually going to be quite a serious affair IMO, as who knows when such a match will ever happen again and the bragging rights to the winning team could last a very long time. I'm feeling it as I write this. Wolves Vs Cradley - ohhhh yeaaaaahhhhhh!!!

I've got three Americans on my flight who claim to be Heathens fans. If its a free bar on the plane I have a feeling things may get interesting as we cross the Atlantic.

true - such is life

Well im sure we can discuss the training day at some point.

The other guy thats trying to sort the date thinks weve got about 12 to go in April - however ill ask him if he needs anymore confirmed showers if your interested in joining us.

By the way theres other tracks fans coming along - so you wont be isolated (as bees fans should be!)

If there are a couple of spaces, with some people we can relate to and have bragging rights over (or under), then let us know and we'll be there :)

there will be plenty of people you will be able to relate to as ill be in the minority age wise.

the guys that went last time (besides me and a poole fan as over 30`s) the rest were 18-22.

However as wolves fans we will hopefully be in the majority!

Seriously all issues apart - im happy to tell Dave to look at confirmed places as we dont want more than 12 (that way we get the track ourselves and plenty of track time).

If there is room for 2 then ill let u know the date

If anyone here knows whoever runs the Wolves website please tell him/her that the date is wrong in the article linked above.
