barrow boy
Bernie Ecclestone is trying to get the FIA to change the method of deciding which driver becomes the FI World Champion. He wants the driver with most GP wins to get it and it not be on points achieved. If this had been applied to the 2008 Speedway GP Circus. 3 riders, TG, JC & LA all would have gone into the last GP on 2 wins each and Tomaz Gollob would now be World Champion. Also NP, HA, GH & RH with 1 win each needed to win to join those on 2 each. Then the WC could have been decided by a 4 man race off or most 2nd & 3rd places etc could have been used to decide. As it turned out the series finishing order would have been:- 01-T.Gollob-3 wins 02-J.Crump-2 wins + 3 thirds 03-L.Adams-2 wins 04-N.Pedersen-1 win + 4 seconds 05-H.Andersen-1 win + 3 seconds 06-G.Hancock-1 win + 2 seconds 07-R.Holta-1 win 08-F.Lindgren-1 second +1 sixth 09-B.Pedersen-1 second 10-s.Nicholls-2 fourths 11-A.Jonsson-1 fourth 12-NK.Iversen-1 fifth 13-C.Harris-2 sixths 14-L.Dryml-1 sixth 15-K.Kasprzak-1 seventh
Peter
If the rule was applied in 2005, the GP series would have been over with three rounds to go.
iris123
Crap idea. And this years title would have been a real scandal if 2 GPs at Bydgo had decided the champ
lucifer sam
Crap idea. And this years title would have been a real scandal if 2 GPs at Bydgo had decided the champ But Gollob won two OTHER GPs. All the best Rob
iris123
But Gollob won two OTHER GPs. All the best Rob Yes,but the decider for the title would have been at Bydgoszcz.A track that already held a GP and obviously favours one particular rider. You think that wouldn't have been a scandal? Blazeaway
Its all ifs and buts and bollox anyway. Nicki would have simply won a couple more GP's if necessary.
Guest Steve Dixon
Thought the idea of a GP format was to find the most consistant rider/driver over the series? If you take Ecclestone's idea we may as well go back to the one off final. Mark Loram would never have been World Champion under these rules! AndyM
In fact why don't we just go back to the good old days of the one-off winner takes all world final while we're at it.

Lawrence
I think that Bernie`s idea about medals it stupid [it`s just my opinion]. Let see - only 2 teams and 2-3 drivers [Mcl and ferrari] are battling for WC... Thats all right, even Robert Kubica couldn`t get better with weak BMW, but what about points? Only medals without points? If only 2 or 3 teams in constructors standings are the best where is the rest? Rest of teams needs points to make progress, to make sponsors for survive in this sport. Maybe the scoring system in F1 will be stands and medals will put some colors into this sport, but this season prooved that F1 can be beautiful and unpredictible...
