January Licence

Recommended Posts

FFS there are two other out of season licences available. December and February. Why can't Newport apply for one of those? Or is it easier for you keyboard commandos to attack Poole.

They're hardly likely to give the licence away if they're going to need it back in 2010 are they?

What are you on about, these licences have to be applied for every season. I assume there has been some sort of getlemans agreement that no one bids for the feb meeting as it "belongs" to Telford. As far as I can see there is no problem in Newport running in Feb next year then the meetings reverting back to how they have been for the last god knows how many years.

What are you on about? Telford always announce the date of the following year's event at the meeting, so clearly they have the licence on a rolling basis.

They're hardly likely to book an ice rink and cross their fingers and hope that no one puts in a higher 'sealed bid' in the next twelve months.

As for a 'gentleman's agreement...that counts for nothing, as we see from Newport's 'gentleman's agreement' being hi-jacked.

Any reason why both Poole and Newport cannot do the New Year Classic. Poole the EL version and Newport the PL version?

But Just imagine Rabbit-a few short months ago it appeared Newport had no hope-and now they do-No New year classic at the time apparent so Poole stepped in to run a meeting in January for the fans. What a wonderful gesture that was at the time-however,now Newport are running again, above speedway politics if the guys from Poole would hand it back to Newport now they are confirmed as racing again on this occasion do you not think it might be a good idea??--Would be wonderful if they could find it in their hearts to do so imo and the guys at Newport could run it and make it happen.

Business aside, but speedway wise would be a wonderful gesture to the newcomers from one of Britains most succesfull teams now that the underdogs are declared as running again when a few short weeks ago it seemed they were dead and buried.

What a sensible post!

The NYC belongs at Newport, fair play to Poole for stepping in to breech the void but it would be nice for them to give it back so to speak!

And I speak as a neutral supporter and either Poole or Newport are just as easy to get to from Brum so I don't have a hidden agenda!

Whilst the NYC was Tim Stone's baby, it has little to nothing to do with the new Newport promotion

Personally I believe it should be shared around, with a different club running the event every year.

So Let's see the Newport Club at that time take a huge gamble, not knowing if the meeting will be supported, what the weather will be like, will riders want to race etc. Though their hard word and that of the late Tim Stone it is a a success and gets established as a regular fixture, so you think other clubs should then benefit from the Gamble and hard graft of the Newport Club ?

I don't think so Steve.

There is a concesus on this board ( well apart from a few cyclopic dorset folk ) that the NYC or the January licence should stay at Newport and be for the Tim Stone Memorial Trophy. After all he was only one with the guts to stage a meeting that time of year.

Lets not forget that Poole were kind enough to leap in and rescue the event because there would not have been time for Newport to organise a meeting if a new promoter was in place for the AGM. Good to see then that Poole have time to re-organise things after they realised their original plans were impractical. All along that was a nonsense as is the talk of rescuing the event, as was any mention of respect for Tim Stone and all the other drivel.

I would have so much more respect for the Poole Promotion and their internet spokesman Mr Shovlar if they just stopped all the bull about saving the event and said that they saw an opportunity to make a few quid and jumped on it. It still wouldn't endear me to them but at least it would be honest.

I love the NYC and am sad it isnt at Newport.

Over the last few days I have learnt a lot more about the history of the NYC and why Tim held it and then a bit more about how Poole will now be hosting he event.

So using that knowlege it is clear that in ordr to pay the land rent, money is required before the season starts - so what is to stop Newport applying for the FEBRUARY licence. I havent heard of anyone taking that one up and with Telford not operating surely this is still up for grabs. Or have I missed something.

I am not a lover of the original Poole idea but if they have a bit more of a grass roots meeting (and not just a Poole assest select) then I may now come down.

So can anyone answer the questions -

Can Newport run a Valentines meeting??

And a second question - have the new promoters publically said they want a pre-season meting?

Certain people from Poole would defend the Devil if it meant he/she rode at Wimbourne Rd first. Simple answer to those who do not hold with Poole's money spinning opportunism, do not not attend the meeting and give the promotion a financial bloody nose. Use the money saved to support Newport when it re-opens and make at least one visit to the club putting money into a worthwhile set-up rather than support the over inflated ego of a couple of minor south coast businessmen who would go the any length to screw someone else. They have done this to most teams who visit Poole with the track preparation so this is just a step up.

I am still curious (and yes i have taken on board Stevie Wonders advice as to contact Poole Speedway Office to have my questions "suitably answered" ) why Poole promotion have decided to dedicate this meeting to Tim Stone and how are they intending to mark "the memory of" bit - jeez - this is not a difficult question to answer SOMEONE must know or is it a big kept secret that will be revealed at the meeting and the whole of the speedway world will be moved by the gesture that will make the hairs on the back of anyones neck stand up

I expect they will,in the meantime could the moderators run a poll to see if the board members think we should have it in Jan 09. Should be fun.

Fun? To me it sounds as though you're trying to stir up trouble! Speedway is in the closed season but it would appear that Poole bashing is ever rampant.

Surely the Devil [aka Old Nick] is a Plymouth asset. Poole, therefore, have no claim on his services. :P
