Sheffield - March 2009 Ozchem Classic & Srbf Meeting

Recommended Posts

I don't think you'll see Gollob there, he wouldnt do Poole's big meeting worth 20K or whatever it was...

I hope they go for a wide mix of EL and PL stars.

It's a bit odd that they are having two meetings so close together. Good luck with it, I hope plenty of money is raised and that everyone has lots of fun.

:)

 dont say that i wanna see tomasz at owlerton before he retires. :P

SHEFFIELD Tigers will launch their 2009 season with two high-profile events next March.

The Owlerton outfit will stage the Ozchem Classic on Sunday, March 15, in memory of the club's close friends Darren and Sharon Boocock who died in a road accident in July.

And a fortnight later Owlerton will host the inaugural Speedway Riders' Benevolent Fund meeting which, like the opener, is all set to pull in some of the top stars in the world.

Double world champion Jason Crump, who is sitting out the 2009 British campaign, is set to figure in at least one of the meetings – and Californian superstar Greg Hancock, who has not figured in this country since 2007, will ride for his close friend Boocock.

SRBF chief Paul Ackroyd has specifically requested the March 29 meeting to be held at Owlerton as he is a big fan of the venue and took note of the bumper crowd at September's Premier League Riders' Championship.

The benevolent fund is there for riders who miss racing because of injury – and to this day it still benefits some riders who are paralysed from their racing career.

Said Sheffield promoter Neil Machin: "It will take place at a time when riders are wanting to sharpen up for the season. We're already getting indications that some big names will do it."

Two excellent causes.

Pleased to see that Hancock will ride for Darren and Sharon Boocock.

We are currently looking for sponsors for the SRBF meeting. Prices are £250 to sponsor either a rider or a race and £50 to sponsor a rider's tyre & fuel.

Anyone interested, or wanting more information, can they please send me a pm & I will contact them direct.

This is a great way to support our injured riders as all monies raised will be paid directly to the Benevolent fund.
