philfromcov
Anyone who follows motorsport knows talent isnt everything, to not have british riders in the GP would be a disaster, the same disaster that happened to World Superbike this year, very little interest, numbers well down at the british rounds and the dutch round which is well supported by brits, the response about 6 british riders in next years competition to compensate. The number of spanish and italian riders in Moto GP and the supporting series is no accident, these guys are no better riders than the british talent but the factories need spanish and italian arses on 125s to sell bikes in probably the two biggest lightweight markets in the world its interesting that three of the best british riders to now ride in the series have never raced in britian, they did their apprenticeships in spain where they were racing in an ultra competitive factory sponsored championship. Holder may be a hot prospect but he has little or no commercial value to TV companies unless of course they are going to australia again. When you look at the top 15 only 7 are what id call "international class" the numbers down to AJ, after that its just filler, so when people moan about bomber, what about the other 8 fillers? the workld championship has never been abouit the best 16 riders, remember the old days when GB/austrailia/NZ/USA all power houses at the time had to fight for a few places whilst the continental final was full of no hopers, again you got a maximuym of 7/8 class riders and the rest filler, so is it really any different? Anders
Don't all these discussions merely demonstrate the paucity of talent in world speedway at the moment? Most of agree that the selected line-up for next season's SGP is pretty tedious, but no-one can really come up with any better names. Kind of, and I actually think philfromcov has hit the nail on the head in the quote below. Behind those top 7, there are only "fillers" with very little between riders 8 and (say) 20-25 in the world. Most of those riders in that category won't do much overall in the Grand Prix over an entire season, but are fully capable to cause an upset now and then. Many riders are just as good as Harris, Ulamek and/or Walasek, take Lee Richardson, Jonas Davidsson, Bjarne Pedersen, Niels-Kristian Iversen, Matej Zagar, Chris Holder and (particulary) Jaroslaw Hampel to name a few. When you look at the top 15 only 7 are what id call "international class" the numbers down to AJ, after that its just filler, so when people moan about bomber, what about the other 8 fillers?
