The Poole Meeting In January

Recommended Posts

Agree with you Pollyanna - most Poole fans have said very little but then does he mean this site or the Poole Forum.

I have nothing against him having he licence (I have said that before) but that interview in the paper is a little hard to swallow as the meeting was originally the Champion of Chamions meeting and was only renamed as the Tim Stone meeting as an afterthought.

That is what upsets me and I am sure there are Poole fans that feel the same even if they choose not to be vocal.

And I am not about t read over the thread again but I certainly wouldnt say the thread has been abusive. Many have asked questions but I dont remember reading abuse. Maybe if I have a free 10minutes laterI will read it all again!!!!

Poole fans will turn up in great numbers like they always do.

Matt and the Poole staff will put on a great show as they always do.

Tim will be shown the respect he is clearly due by all that turn up.

Newport can have the meeting back in 2009 if there running again.

Whats the problem?

So sorry to have to ask this question again but I wouldn't have to if someone had answered it previously. Matt has decided to dedicate this meeting to Tim Stone, but this was obviously not his original plans "Champion of Champions Meeting which would have had no connection with Newport or Tim Stone but then there was a change and its now the NYC "In memory of Tim Stone" - PLEASE can someone advise why he has decided to dedicate it to TIM and how he intends to dedicate this meeting in his memory.

AND please SHOV .................

DONT BOTHER preaching in response to this - we are all converted to your clergy mate - but we wont be taking communion

no flannel or meadow poo just purely curious as are all the Newport Fans as to Matts sincere sentiments as were published in the local Rag but no quote as to how he proposes to dedicate this meeting to TIM.

Its such a simple question to answer but maybe the only person that can answer it is the person who thought up the idea in the first place and the decision would not have been made to run it on this basis without a pre-thought

To be honest, I think the only person you are going to get the answer from is Matt himself. I'd suggest calling the speedway office as others have done - he's an approachable chap and I'm sure if asked in the right way, he'd be more than happy to tell you what's behind the plans. With all due respect, asking on here isn't going to get you anything other than second hand info or hearsay, either from a forum member or via the papers.

From Poolespeedway.net.

Zibi Returning -

24 year old Polish rider Zbigniew Suchecki will be returning to Wimborne Road in 2009 for at least one meeting. "Zibi", as the 2008 Castle Cover Pirate is better known as, has become the latest rider to agree terms to compete in the New Year Classic meeting being staged on Sunday January 4th.

The likeable Pole found his Poole career cut short when he crashed in heat 2 of the Pirates home league meeting against Eastbourne on 23rd April. He sustained multiple breaks of his right leg and was sidelined until mid-July, by which time the Pirates had re-declared their side with the call-up of Magnus Zetterstrom and Daniel Davidsson. In his short-spell with the Pirates Suchecki, an Ipswich asset, showed plenty of promise and no doubt he could benefit from this opportunity to race in Britain again.

Thanks Rabbit - you have hit the nail on the head

"asking on here isn't going to get you anything other than second hand info or hearsay"

We are happy that we have almost got Newport back on track and that means alot to us as I am sure alot of speedway fans threatened with the prospect of closure would feel the same way.

We are hopeful that we will be able to pay our respects to Tim at NEWPORT (his baby) in due course and we would hope that we could see all you Poole fans there paying your respects a second time round

Best of luck for your meeting

Thank you. One thing I would add is that I'm sure that absolutely no disrespect has ever been intended at any time in this 'situation'. I've known Matt for many years, and whilst he often is accused of many things, I'd certainly not think of him intentionally going out to upset anyone over this. Whilst I wasn't at our supporters' get-together on Weds, the subject of the meeting was apparently raised and I did see the following post on our forum today - someone posted 'He also said that if the public opinion was that it shouldnt be in Tim Stones memory, he would withdraw that from the title. Its a shame its got to this point as he mentioned he was helping the new promotion at Newport with 2-3 riders for next season and speaks to them on a daily basis. ' I do know from previous conversations that he was friendly with Tim, so perhaps the cynicism that has met the name change might not be wholly justified. I'm sure that more will be forthcoming, if not before, then on the day of the meeting, in the programme notes.

Its about time that people stopped bickering in this thread. Its driving everybody nuts by the seems of things, espiecially the newport fan who really needs to give it a rest.

Has it occured that the Poole Promotion and the new Newport promotion are fine with this now?

And there it is in a nutshell, let the promoters get on with their jobs. They obviously know what's going on and are quite happy with the situation.

Hey - I never had hand bags at 20 paces LOL and sorry if I have said the wrong thing, as I guess you were pointing your comment at me - I was never gonna bicker with anyone. I was merely curious :)

Personally i think we are going to see some better racing in this meeting without the top names.

I don't see it all as a come down, i enjoy racing whoever is taking part(well almost  )& it's good to see Matt is still putting together a good field, if Matt is working with the new owner of Newport on this then that is superb.

Matt did say at the meeting last Wednesday, that he had worked very amicably with Tim Stone over the years. He had helped sort out some riders for Tim,and he also said that he IS working in conjunction with the prospective new promoters.

When I want to go to an individual meeting,I take a close look at who is riding. If the riders are reasonably evenly matched,I will go.Generally speaking,I think you will get better actual racing that way.

One of the best meetings Ive seen for years was the Young Guns meeting at Poole a few years ago.Absolutely cracking racing.Where were all the so called stars then?

With the riders announced so far,I happy that I can expect some good racing. Now,if Matt were to announce 6 GP quality riders were riding,I would be worried. Not that I dont want to watch them, but it would almost inevitably lead to a 'top heavy' finishing order.

Ive seen enough speedway to firmly believe that having a top quality field, doesnt always produce great racing.Lets face it,there have been some pretty dire GP's over the years! (There has also been some superb ones as well)

Keep the riders to the level so far,and Im sure we will be treated to some great racing.

The bottom line is........its OUR meeting, not anyone elses. Its Matts money on the line,so he invites whoever he likes.

Personally,Im looking forward to it. :approve:
