Mark
A group of 6 want to go to Bydgoszcz next year for the GP but need some help. We wondered where the are best places to stay in town, how far is the track from town, is it a friendly place, is it expensive in Poland for food and hotel and drinks, where do the English stand in the stadium. Can anyone help with some past knowledge please.
sadiemae
A group of 6 want to go to Bydgoszcz next year for the GP but need some help. We wondered where the are best places to stay in town, how far is the track from town, is it a friendly place, is it expensive in Poland for food and hotel and drinks, where do the English stand in the stadium. Can anyone help with some past knowledge please. We went to the Bydgoszcz GP in September and stayed in the lovely town of Torun. It is about 30 mins away on bus which costs 10zl (£2.50ish). Once you get off bus the track is about a 10 minute walk Only issue was getting back to Torun after GP as local buses finish at 8.30pm and a private bus company take over. They run a bus at 12 midnight so it is a bit of a long wait after GP has finished. Lovely hotel called Mercure Helios, very clean, pleasant friendly staff. 3 course meal for 2 of us on the Sunday night cost a total of £26 and that included drinks! Doesn't really matter where you sit/stand, we sat on 1st/2nd bend with a Polish couple one side and Danes on the other, all very amicable sharing beer and experiences. 3rd and 4th bend appeared to be primarily standing Polish supporters. Would certainly recommend as it is a great weekend! Hope this helps and happy travelling!!
Mama
If you really want to feel the Bydgoszcz GP atmosphere, you should come at Friday (or even earlier ) and stay in one of Bydgoszcz hotels. There are quite lot of them - but sometimes at similiar time there is kind of medical congress in Bydgoszcz and lot of hotels may be sold out (earlier reservation is prefered). Polonia stadium is about 15 minutes of walking from the city centre (5 minutes from the bus station) and if you prefere higher standard hotel, you should take City Hotel (about 10 minutes of walking from the stadium), Pod Orłem Hotel (about 15 minutes of walking) or Brda Hotel (about 25 minutes of walking) - the last one is situated close to the railway station. I think most of foreign fans stay at these hotels. Food and drinks are rather not to expensive for foreigners (eg. beer in pubs costs about 5-7 zł) Edited October 20, 2008 by Mama
