Wild Cards For 09

Recommended Posts

1 point is now "well behind"? I don't know what Lewis Hamilton was worrying about in the F1, Massa finished "well behind" him in the standings in the end!

LOL, Bjerrem Ulamek and Walasek have qualifier, only Bjerre will do anything of note. Expect Ulamek and Walasek to throw in the odd ride (similar to Dryml this year) but then the next 4 guys were Iversen, Jedrzejak, Sullivan and Monberg. Thats Iversen who only managed 1 point more than Harris, Jedrzejak who is a reasonable rider but a potential GP winner? No chance (Harris is, he's done it once, why not again?), Sullivan maybe and Monberg was tripe in his last stint in the GP's, he's never been top 8 material and never will be.

I was wondering if I had to pick a top 15 who I'd pick and I'd not have Ulamek, Walasek or Harris. Nicholls just sneaks in too. Jonas Davidsson is a maybe, Sullivan another, Holder is only a maybe. Theres an awful lot of rider who are good in 2 of the 3 main leagues who have a good argument TBH, sald,y Harris, Ulamek and Walasek are not in that list. I've not included rider who have said in the recent past they're not interested in the GP series (other than Holder)

Yes Niels only scored 1 point more than Bomber but he rode in a few of the meetings whilst injured & even missed some.

In my opinion Bomber should do the honourable thing & say he isn't good enough for the G.P's as the riders should be picked on ability & not on their birthplace.

Jarek Hampel & to a lesser degree Bjarne have both lost their spots due to missing G.P's through injury.

This sort of decision could only happen in speedway.

INterestingly Bjarne missed two meetings, and if he had scored his "average" for this years GP's, he would have been in the top 8/ yet he has never been mentioned as a wild card.

And befor anyone jumps on this, no he will never be world champ. But like Harris he has won a GP and is a far, far more acomplished rider.

Bjane does want to go in the gp as the costs are to high same as holder ....these are better choices than harris but these guys don't want to be in it in the first place .

Puk missed 1 GP, Harris missed 1.

Harris was wiped out in Cardiff (by Puk, ironically) and more or less ended his GP and was still injured in Bydgoszcz2.

Neither was that much better than the other TBH, both were bit part players who were barely noticed all year and nobody can truly pick one over the other. Both are at the same level and pretty much have been for about 5 years now if you compare there averages in the UK (no idea about abroad). The only thing that splits the two is that in 2 GP seasons each, one of them has actually won a GP. It's a moot point anyway IMO, I'd have neither in the GP's, my argue is sole that of, if Bomber is not good enough, there's no way Puk is either. I say that as someone who likes both.

Regarding Jarek, he failed to qualify form the Polish rounds, then got a bye into the later rounds and failed again. He had two attempts and blew them both after failing to qualify in the top 8 the year before. Plus frankly he is as boring as the proverbial paint drying so offers nothing to the GP's as I can't see him challenging for the top 5, ever and the top 3 is totally beyond. Realistically, it's the same for Harris but at least he can be entertaining.

Bjarne is a capable rider who I'd argue is deserving of a GP place but he said himself he did not want a place, so he's out.

Holder said he did not want to be considered for the GP, so how can it be a sick joke, Holder did not want ride so hence he has not been chosen.

Of course the inclusion of Bomber Harris is down to the fact that he is British, and the British GP is one of top Grand Prix's, it is the same reason why Freddie Lingren is in to make up the Swedish numbers.

I agree at the moment Tai is not ready, give him two years and I think he will, putting him in now would do him no good, prove of happens when you putting riders in before they are ready look Antoninio Lindback.

I read in the article in the SS in which Harris said he had lost a lot of money riding in the GPs this year and would not accept a seeded place for 2009 if he was offered one!

To put the matter straight, Holder wasn't sure he had the finances in place to ride in the GPs yet, but he said if he was offered a place, then he would accept it.

Harris said at Brandon when asked about it that he'd see what happened and if he was given one he'd give it his best shot

And when I spoke with BSI about wild cards they made it quite clear to me that they were necessary in case one of the top riders missed some meetings which caused them to miss out on qualifying. I guess they don't consider BP & NKI top enough riders to apply this facicilty.

Very disappointed with the wildcards. Getting very stale now, maybe time for a change of the sports we sponsor.

That would be a real shame if speedway lost you guys.

As one of the GP's major sponsors do you get any say at all in the wildcards? PM or ring me if you don't want the answer in public mate.

Are these names certainties? I can't find any announcement on the FIM website and I seem to remember a similar situation last year when the riders suggested initially by a Polish website were not all the actual wildcards when the official announcement was made.

Whoops sorry wrong thread!
