Ron Butler
So Scott is officially out of the top 8, despite trying hard tonight. Will he get a nomination? I feel he will, Schumi. It will be 'arranged' for the sake of national pride and, primarily, Sky Sports rating figures. The rules of speedway are, I fear, somewhat fluid now. I could say more but I know you prefer brief posts.

shazzybird
I would put harris back in, leave scott out for a year and make him attempt to get in via the proper route. He may be the best brit but how many wildcards do you give him. Yep I'll go with that ..... how nice was it to see Mark Loram in the pits with him tonight! Kelvin Tatum can we replace him though please??????? Why is it when he sees an injured rider helping out in the pits he summises (sp) what they are going to do in the future? Paulco
nicholls and harris have to be back in. there would be a massive drop in attendance at cardiff. what with sky and cardiff the uk bankroles the gp's so we should have at least two! Would it though . I go to Cardiff every year and Nicholls and Harris are way down the list of the riders i want to see . Do Swindon fans support Nicholls over Adams at Cardiff , do Lakeside fans cheer Harris against Jonsson , do BV fans prefer to see Crump lose to Nicholls . I think not . There will be a wildcard for the patriotic fans , while the rest of us will enjoy the GP - British riders in the field or not .

Totally agree, I don't think Nicholls adds anytbhing to the GP, he has enough chances to prove he can cut it in the GP and has yet to do it. I think this should have been his last chance and if he should be in the GP let him go through the correct route like most riders have too. I would give his place to Holder, it might be too early for Tai but you never know he may rise to the ocassion. I go to Cardiff each year, I like to see the Brits do well but I am often cheering for somene else who I feel has a real chance.

Who gets the loudest reception from the fans, i think you,ll find it is the brits, whoever they are that year, ie Nicholls, Harris, Norris, Stonehewer, Stead, Tai etc etc, oh and maybe even Richardson Why was it so quiet when Bomber won then, after all under your theory it must have been packed out with 35,000 bees fans. Trees
The riders who IMG think will bring in the most fans, and in turn make them the most money, will get the nominations I guess. On another note what did Hans Andersen say last night, if it wasn't for his two good sponsors he wouldn't be in the series, how sad is that eh! I think Scott adds a lot to the GP series, and I genuinely think he is within the top 15 in the World. Just because he isn't in the top 8, does that mean that he shouldn't be included in the series? When I go to a GP, I want to see the best riders in the World racing, and I don't think there are 8 riders currently outside of the top 8 that are better than Scott. Unfortunately, thanks to the qualifying system, we already have below standard riders in the field every year. The picks hopefully wont add more next year! On another note what did Hans Andersen say last night, if it wasn't for his two good sponsors he wouldn't be in the series, how sad is that eh! Sad in some ways, but a fact of life in all professional motorsport. It's the sponsors that keep things going....Capitalism, isn't it great? Mark
In the GP I want the best 16 riders in the world. Scott is within that bunch and whilst the Top 6 seem to be set in stone we need other riders to give us some entertainment. Scott is all action, never gives an inch, and looked on the pace in the last 3 GP's. I reckon he'll do quite well next year if given a chance. Maybe lose a stone & get his starting boots on ! After the 8 qualifiers ..if you list the next 8 in the world he has to be in that group
schumi
Okay, as the thread originator, I'll ask another question: should Scott perhaps have tried to get into the series through the qualifiers?
salty
Okay, as the thread originator, I'll ask another question: should Scott perhaps have tried to get into the series through the qualifiers? In a perfect world of course he should. The cynic in me thinks he doesn't bother with the qualifiers, because if he were to fail in them it weakens his case for a nomination. jaybea39
Schumi I think if you look at the qualifiers...everyyear they are on a flat big track with no dirt...This is why we are not getting the best riders in the world through....Last years qualifiers....Dryml ...Iversen,.....Kazprsazak...nver looked like troubling the top 8.....This years qualifiers....Ulamek...Bjerre....Walasek will go the same way i am afraid......They are out and out gaters.......and most could not get past an EL reserve like Chris Schramm let alone get past Jason Crump........Personally i think qualifiers should be done away with......But then again as i have said before i think the GP's have got boring since they done away with the 24 riders in eech event....Every race had something on it....and there were chances for the lesser lights to shine....Now there is no chance. jb
BigFatDave
He's the British Champion isn't he? Should be automatic qualification.
beesboybert
Kind of poetic justice Harris beating Nicolls in their heat thus putting paid to his top 8dream after what he did to Harris in the run off last year Even though if Scott qualified in the top 8 then it would have strengthened bombers case for a nomination? home straight
He's the British Champion isn't he? Should be automatic qualification. Why so? If that's the criteria then Chris Holder, Adam Skornicki and Magnus Zetterstrom should also qualify being that they are the champions of their respective nations. Where do you draw the line? should the hungarian national champion automatically qualify? Norway? Italy?

Where do you draw the line? should the hungarian national champion automatically qualify? Norway? Italy? I don't agree that as British champion he should automatically be seeded. However I do think that as he finished ninth overall and is deinately one of the best 16 riders in the world, he should be seeded for 09. Saying that I belive that Bjane & Hampel are also top 16 riders, but they will probaly not get a place..

willp
it looks pretty certain that scott will be back in the gp series next season, as long as he accepts the nomination from BSI/IMG! as for chris i'm not sure he'll be back in next year. maybe a year away from the gp's will do him good. he'll probably be the wild card for cardiff next year anyway. freddie lindgren looks like he'll probably get a nomination as well but i cannot see anymore danes or poles being offered places.
