Dave was always a good golfer as was his son, who looked the perfect size for a speedway racer and chose golf instead!
star ghost
Dave was always a good golfer as was his son, who looked the perfect size for a speedway racer and chose golf instead! I think Len Tupling (captain of Wombwell Colliers in the 40s) was the father of Peter Tupling, England Golfer. I seem to recall Len saying to Fred Rogers that his son never had cinders under his fingernails like his father did Perhaps this was why a young DJ never took up the greatest sport in the world
mervjankefanclub
Dave was always a good golfer as was his son, who looked the perfect size for a speedway racer and chose golf instead! Didnt his son have a go in the pro ranks, asturmer Another interesting speedway link in the piece is the editors name - Colin Farquharson. Whos namesake was a favourite of mine during his short spell with the Tigers Edited October 17, 2008 by mervjankefanclub
slickmick
I remember back in the dim distant times when DJ was still riding, he was a very good golfer. He even got to play on the BBC golf prog Peter Allis used to do, Think it was called something like, A round with Alliss.

asturmer
i never normally say this but i,m with garry havelock on this one cant stand the guy hes got a nasty attitude I think his son did have a go at the pro ranking in golf but was not quite there! Re nasty attitude, could be small man syndrome but I think most speedway riders are small in stature but big in attitude and skill and bravery!! BOBBATH
How did the nasty attitude evidence itself??
SHALEWAY69
How did the nasty attitude evidence itself?? are we talking of DJ's attitude or his sons? Dave was aregular customer, when I supplied the spares at Crayford, Ipswich and Hackney so I got to know him quite well. He kept himself to himself, I think a little aloof, maybe the elite Jaguar, golf clubs in the back, his neat appearance and the flask of tea and sandwiches in the pits made him the butt of jokes by other riders who did not get to know him. He certainly had a shrewd business brain and could throw a tantrum when the things were not in his favour, but who did'nt. nasty attitude , i cannot recall itwith DJ, but some of the AMERICANS WELL THATS ANOTHER THREAD!!
