this may have been mentioned already but could they not have laid the track then used the famous track drying machine that sky was so proud of at the start of the season.

But that machine is in England. I doubt they would have got it out there in time.

Sorry - I don't see myself as a Dinosaur. If the 'one off' World Final applied today - I would bet that there would be MORE people there than at the British 'Grand' Prix.

I remember the days of Mauger, Briggs, Moore and yes even Olsen (a FAR superior Rider than he is a Track Curator) - TRUE World Champions. They had raced all the Qualifying Rounds against great, good, mediocre and some bad Riders to win it. They had EARNED the right to be called World Champion. Much easier if you race the same 16 people, with a couple of Wild Cards thrown in. You know who is going to ride where on the Track, you don't come up against the odd novice who might knock you off (accidentally) and cost you your place in the next Round. You can pretty well predict what all of your fifteen other oponents are going to do.

YES - ALL IN ALL - GIVE ME THE OLD DAYS - TO HELL WITH IT - I AM A DINOSAUR AND PROUD TO BE SO!!

I am reminded of a Quote at this point:

"THE PAST IS ANOTHER COUNTRY - THEY DO THINGS DIFFERENTLY THERE." Thank heavens they did - they gave us SPEEDWAY - not the farce it is turning in to today.

Speedway was on its arse before the GP's. What were the attendance figures for the last few one day finals?

Without the GP's speedway would be in an even worse state than it already is.

How bad a state can it get

The last GP has been canceled for what reason? incompetence ? poor ticket sales? (this is the 200,000 dollar winner takes all meeting) if the BSI/IMG can't sell that what can they sell ?

Sorry I don't buy all the conspiracies about this-why the hell would what is an already inept bunch want to make themselves look even more inept.

I have gone to quite a few Gp's in the past, but to be honest I don't really go for the racing, more of a good weekend away with family and friends to places that I wouldn't normally go to. The tracks have always been slick, which in my opinion does not mean automatic bad racing. What the tracks need is some more moisture in them to generate dirt as the meeting goes on, (obviously not the amount of wet as in this weekends farce!!) every GP I have been to the tracks are always far too dry and dusty.

The people I feel sorry for this weekend are all those that have paid for fuel/flights/hotels etc etc and have had their weekend ruined.

And where is that track drying machine????

Sadly it has been proved correct that BSI/IMG or whatever they are calling themselves today are a disaster for our sport and the sooner this circus is stopped the better

They couldn't give a damn about speedway supporters and the limp press release and pitiful offer of a ticket for a GP next year is a joke. The great news is that there are already sat on loads of your money for next years Cardiff GP and taking a small fortune out of our sport which is on its knees

Get rid of the GP circus once and for all

So what you're saying is that when you went to the stadium nobody gave any indication that there was a problem & allowed you to purchase your tickets even though it was at that stage obvious there was.

Utterly dispicable.

No programmes available is a big give-away surely!

These programmes are large glossy books, priced at £8 at Cardiff and they have to be re-printed on the day of the meeting because of an error?

How gullible do they think fans are?

I have also scanned the Sky programmes and there is no replay of this meeting scheduled!

I can never understand why the best temporary track builders with a proven track record, The Dugards, are not used for all the tempoaray tracks (Sorry about the pun)

One piece of what is now very old news, the Coventry track on World Cup night was prepared by Ole Olsen who just happens to be owner/promoter where the final was being run and his Danish team were riding in the Coventry round and needed to qualify in order for the Danes to have plenty of time to buy their tickets.

Not being able to take a foreign track to the small claims court? The organisers are BSI/IMG and they are firmly based in the UK. Paid by credit card............ask them for the money. Gone on an organised tour that included stadium entrance as part of the package ask them and/or credit card company for a full refund because the GP was the primary reason for the journey, you didnt go there for bockwurst and beer.

It's nothing to do with the track.

I think that what's probably happened is - advanced ticket sales were very poor but they hung on hoping for a big walk up crowd, then they sussed that Germany were playing Russia in a WC qualifier just 10 MINUTES DOWN THE ROAD at Dortmund (hey we missed that one fellas), so they pulled the plug and opted for contingency plan Bydgoszcz.

I tried to book accomodation in the City Hotel Bydgoszcz at 12-15pm lunchtime yesterday and it was booked up, suprise suprise.

Well what an awful weekend to cap a pretty terrible week!

I am increasingly infuriated by the fact that despite all the happenings of the last week in the financial markets we still see the bank's TV adverts being transmitted without even a pause for decency. We have shareholders who have lost millions, all of us with pension money evaporating overnight and millions just scared stiff of how the whole thing is going to affect us ... and that ridiculous nerd from the Halifax continues to dance and sing in a tropical beach location!. Have they no shame!

But aren't we, in Speedway, going to face something even more perverse next week?

IMG/BSI, and following on Sky TV and their talking heads, are all going to be talking up a giveaway bonanza of $200,000 on the Super Prix Final as if nothing has changed after the Gelsenkirchen debacle. How is that really going to be possible?

Can you really estimate just what the level of un-compensated losses will have been suffered by many, many people?

The numbers must be massive. There is not just the thousands of travelling fans with all their costs of flights, car hire, hotels etc, there are the riders whose combined costs for a GP weekend must be huge, but there will be many others including TV companies, journalists and photographers. Just how many enemies of influence have IMG/BSI just made?

How can anyone, even within IMG/BSI, seriously contemplate marketing the $200,000 race in the face of the costs that are not being compensated?

Next weekend in Bydgoszcz the World Championship is still to be decided, and although Nicki should do it easily, the title still actually has to be raced for and won. So the meeting has genuine purpose.

But surely the so called 'Super Prix' element is a different matter. It has no history or relevence except that the concept was dreamed up by IMG to make sure that the final round still had something to race for. It is surely the first thing to go in a crisis. And this is surely a crisis.

Wouldn't it be the right thing to do, the decent thing, even, to put that $200,000 into a 'rescue fund' that could compensate people who have been so heinously treated this dark weekend?

No probs ... I am just fed up with nearly every post on this site being full of moaning ... are there any happy speedway fans on here apart from Pirates & Monarchs ?? :(

People have wasted as great deal of time and money to find the supposed highlight of their season was a fiasco. And you think people should be happy?

There's a heck of a difference between optimism and being out of touch with reality.

I guess one of the questions needed to be asked is why lay the track when the stuff was so wet? This has been asked on one of the German news websites. No answer given though. But from what i heard the offer of a super dryer was turned down because it weighed so much it would just damage the track in another way.So why not dry the stuff out before putting it down?Get the stuff out in the car park or a hall somewhere and dry it out bit by bit and then lay the track with dry stuff and not soaking wet gear
