Highlander
Fantastic performance by Marc Owen. Saw him at Glasgow last season and reckoned then, he was one for the future. Jack Hurst(15) appeared at yesterdays Junior event at Ashfield. Knowing that Colin Mackie, Glasgow's training instructor is eager to give youth a chance I would imagine that there is a possibilty of Jack being joined by Marc and Dale Lamb next season in the Hethersfield Gold Helmet. Guest Steve Dixon
Some good racing from Hart, Haines,Taylor and Auty, although I thought Auty looked either not bothered, unwell or down on power( or all three ?) Josh has a lot on his mind right now, I believe his father has been unwell recently and it has naturally affected him.

I'll second that. Marc Owen looked very good last year at Glasgow beating Dale Lamb and Rhys Naylor while all were on 250s. It's interesting to follow their careers now they've moved on to 500s. Parsloes 1928 nearly
Yes, a massive well-done to Marc!! And remember (though Updates clearly struggled to... ) that when you put a club next to young Master Owen's name, it's Sittingbourne!! He's been our mascot and regular junior rider (beating all-comers!) for two years now..
crazysue
Well thanks Parsloes.... Would you have preferred for there not to have been any updates? I cannot be expected to remember every single club a rider rides for, I know a fair few but come on, I cannot be expected to remember every single riders club. I knew the name (enough to put a c instead of a k on his name) but for which club I was in complete brain drain, not surprising really when you take into account the horrendous week and a half I have had with my youngest son being rushed into hospital seriously ill and was just a hairs breath away from losing his life and just yesterday, having to go back to see the specialist nurse as he is still having problems. So a less patronising post would be appreciated. Edited October 28, 2008 by crazysue
PhilK
Throughly enjoyable meeting with some good racing on an excellent track. The top four always looked likely from the start but there was some fine efforts from others. Like others have said young Marc Owen was excellent and really looks a talent. Ben Taylor rode as well as I have seen him, Richard Franklin was impressive too and all competitors put up an excellent show. Dissapointing to see races with two or three riders in, especially when the two non arrivals were already down as reserves for the meeting before Garrity & Rayson were late withdrawals. Don't know what the situation was with these riders or Stoneman and Resch but it certainly took something away from the meeting. I cannot understand why this meeting has a thrown together look (non offence to Scunthorpe as usual they put on an excellent professional show) at the end of the season, surely a meeting of this standard showcasing some of the best young BRITISH talent around should have a much higher profile and be raced earlier in the season with all riders invited early and knowing that this annual event has a regular confirmed time each year. Sadly those in power were probably more interested in scouring Poland for their new signing for their own teams for 2009 Until the BSPA realise how important looking after the young British talent properly is the same old problems will persist. We were talking on the way home how incredible it is that the U15 Championship this year only had 4 rounds! In its inaugural year it had seven and surely it should have increased over the years not decreased!! Those that run speedway in the UK really need to wake up! Not quiet sure why we had to have a semi final and final after the 20 heats had decided the result fair and square?, but that said they provided two more good races to finish the evening. People are getting very sensitive on here...: must be the nights drawing in and the Speedway grinding to a halt!! I'm MASSIVELY appreciative of the incredible work all in the Updates 'team' do. So, sorry!!! D. And of course the very best wishes to your son for a full recovery. My daughter was in hospital a couple of weeks back to and it's a rotten thing... Pi$$ poor organisation.

British Championships or not the SCB are tooooooo slow. Phil, where on earth have you been - the Forum has not been the same lately without your charming and witty comments!! At least you got a letter - we only found out through a chance conversation with Malcolm Vasey at the CL4's, reinforced by the post from RH at Scunthorpe. This may well explain why some riders didn't turn up for what was supposed to be a prestigious meeting in the speedway calendar. I feel really sorry for the Scunthorpe promotion who went to great lengths to put on this meeting and did a fine job too without the support of the governing body. It is really encouraging that the BSPA put so much effort into the next generation of British speedway riders, and I shall be emailing my views to them in due course. June
Unitedunited......Dont agree with you that josh is a one line rider....having watched Josh at Scunny 2006/2007 I can assure you he is well capable of using the whole track.......last night he featured in the best race of the night coming from last to first. I think he is down on confidence at the mo, but I'm sure he'll come real good again...Well done Josh on coming 2nd!

M08
My second visit to Scunthorpe, and another enjoyable one. You could've put your mortgage on Tai winning, but I still won a few quid off my mate by predicting the 4 finalists. Cheers lads
