Wroclaw

As I understand it the home of Atlas Wroclaw is now NOT being demolished to make way for a new stadium, as a brand new 44000 seater stadium is being built elsewhere in the city. The old Olympic Stadium is now going to be used for training only, for Euro 2012, and is to get some re-furbishment.

Do any of our Polish chums have any news as to the use for speedway and wether Wroclaw may again feature as a GP venue in the near future.

Not to distract from Bydgoszcz and Leszno, I think that Wroclaw is the best all-round GP venue and I for one sorely miss it.

Not been to Wroclaw but the track doesn't seem to produce good racing. Don't remember a good GP from there TBH.

I have been to both Leszno and Bydgoszcz and it would be a real shame if either were to lose their GP status.

Always amuses me that they call it very grandly the "Olympic Stadium"..!!

People MUST be perplexed about this too...: an Olympics in Poland..?? When was that then..??!!

It was, in fact, where the Equestrian events were staged when Berlin staged the (infamous) 1936 Olympics: this part of modern Poland then being within German borders (as indeed Hitler was soon then to do to the rest of that country!!).

But all these years on, still calling it the Olympic Stadium..?? Well, that's like calling good old Herne Hill Cycle Track in south London the "Olympic Stadium" coz in 1948 that's where the Track Cycling events were held!!!!

From a tv viewer's perspective, with the track slicked off by Olsen, it's never too exciting, but as a live venue and meeting place it's great.

On the back straight there's a good mix of Polish fans from around the country where Bydgoszcz and Leszno tend to be parochial.

Lots of good quality hotels, bars and restraurants unlike Bydgoszcz (and Leszno) where there are limited hotels and very few bars with no decent restaurants to speak of. Used to be some good late sessions in the Brda bar though, a few years ago.

Anyway does anyone know what's happening to the stadium?

I suppose it's better than reverting to its other previous names, the Herman Goring Stadium or the Empty Sack Stadium.

Typical Parsloes.....If it held the Olympics then why not

People here still refer to Danzig rather than Gdansk. And it did confuse me at first when people talked about the Bromberg GP.
