colincooke
How was it disrespectful? In Poland they interview foreign riders (and - interestingly enough - Rune Holta) in English and translate the answers for their Polish viewers. Disrespectful as the interveiwee didn't understand & he still continued when requested to speak English. Don't get me wrong, i couldn't give a toss about Steve Brandon but on Sky Sports the veiwers are mainly English speaking. To another point why do commentators continue to apologise for foul language, it's Sky that are directing the show, Brandon that is telling the cameraman what to do, so for instance as with last night when Crumpie came in from a last place, what do they expect to hear him say, oh yippee!!. Subedei
Disrespectful as the interveiwee didn't understand & he still continued when requested to speak English. I'm sure the interviewee understood completely what he was saying. He was, after all, saying it. And I believe Brandon's interviews at the GPs aren't Sky interviews, but interviews conducted on behalf of BSI Speedway. richsimpson
The SGP Series is run by British business IMG. Thats why. Mind you, was comical when Gollob carried on in his native language after being asked for something in English!
Subedei
The SGP Series is run by British business IMG. Thats why. No, an American company called IMG through a British subsidiary - BSI Speedway - are the commercial rights holders. The SGP series is run by the FIM, the international governing body for motorcycle sports.

Surely it is more disrespectful to try and interview a Polish rider in a Polish stadium in front of a Polish audience and expect him to reply in English. The TV audience isn't just those watching in the UK and Brandon is interviewing for all who take the GP's.

But you're dealing with people who have the parochial little Englander mentality. You're dealing with people who don't think it disrespectful to have the Sky team extract the urine from some poor Polish chap struggling to string together a sentence in English, such as Grzegorz Walasek. ballinger
Disrespectful as the interveiwee didn't understand & he still continued when requested to speak English. Sky are not directing the show at SGP. BSI engage BHP Sport to film SGP, BHP will then engage local crews for the actual mechanics of filming (maybe in Bydgoszcz's case Canal+ Sport ?), and then BHP supply via BSI the feed to those taking the live broadcast. In the UK that is Sky Sports. Sky then wrap their studio format around it, and dip to interviews as and when. Sometimes Sky have Summer Bogh (sp?) as their SGP interviewer, sometimes they take the Steve Brandon interviews that he is doing for BHP. Remember that BHP create their 60 minute highlights show for sale to many other networks, where the language of the show is English. Confusion is caused as Steve Brandon works not only for BSI/BHP as their interviewer / presenter, but also ofcourse directly for Sky Sports as their floor manager for the regular EL stuff. The post Final race interviews which are now conducted on the infield are supposed to be in English as these interviews will form part of the close of the highlights show. With regards to the apologies for the language it is ofcourse more clearly heard by the commentary team as they are listening to the feed through headphones and with the sound mix again over done last night it would have been very clear to them
Humphrey Appleby
Remember that BHP create their 60 minute highlights show for sale to many other networks, where the language of the show is English. Rightly or wrongly, most content targeted at an international audience will be in English because that's the language most people are likely to speak as a first or second language. I imagine the provision of interpreters is just not cost effective for something like the SGP which is largely produced on the cheap (hence the commentators in a UK studio). Midnight_Lady
......very didsrespectful of him to interveiw in Polish& Why? Speaking in Polish meant the crowd who were mainly Polish could understand what their hero was saying. He did speak in English in the same interview as well if you had bothered to listen. Wackie
very didsrespectful of him to interveiw in Polish Rubbish! It's standard procedure in Moto GP, 250 & 125 racing for riders to respond in their native tongue when being interviewed after a race. Disrespectful as the interveiwee didn't understand & he still continued when requested to speak English. Don't get me wrong, i couldn't give a toss about Steve Brandon but on Sky Sports the veiwers are mainly English speaking. Gollob intimated to Brandon that he hadn't quite finished what he wanted to say & would give comment in English afterwards. Sky Sports aren't the only one's who show the coverage, I'm sure the people watching in Poland, Denmark, Sweden etc aren't mainly English speaking. Personally I thought Gollob came over really well when interviewed last night be it with his responses given in Polish or English. He looked to be relaxed and enjoying the whole thing even though he only managed 3rd after dominating the main meeting. Congratulations to Greg on his win. These old boys can still do it & even with the call for new, young blood in the GP series next year like Holder, Pavlic and the young ruskie who's name I can't be bothered to look up the spelling of at the moment, I don't think they'd give the old guard too many problems next year and would still expect the likes of Gollob, Hancock, Adams, Crump, Pedersen to comfortably make the top 8. jammy1997
Well Done To Greg. He Was Awesome. He Knew That Nicki Would Be Concentrating On Gollob, And Gollob Was Concentrating On Nicki. He Went Up The Inside And He Was Off. Im Not Saying He Was Untouchable, but He Just Rode A very Professional Race, He Didnt Do Anything Stupid. You Could Tell How Much It Meant To Him And His Mechanics, They Were So Excited About Winning, All There Hard Work Has All Payed Off. Jason Was Unlucky Tonight, But He Can Make Up The Points In Italy And Germany So The Number Two Place Is Still In His Reach. Tomasz Was Mr Consistent. Again he Wasnt Untouchable, I Knew Someone Would Catch Him In The End. But All Together He Was Very Good But Messed It Up In The Final. Nicki Has Got One Hand On The Trophy, Nobody Will Catch Him Now, Not Unless He Does Something Extremly Stupid Which I Dont Think That Will Happen Because His Experience Will Carry Him Through. I Was Dissapointed With The Preformance Of Freddie Lindgren. I Would Of Thought He Would Have Scored Way More Points Than He Did. But Maybe He Had Over Things On His Mind. Hopefully He Will Make It Into The Top 8. Or If Not im Sure He Will Get A Wild Card entry , Because He Was On The Podium in Sweden. Hackett
It was the Polish SGP in Bydgoszcz - Majority of the crowd was Polish so what is wrong with speaking to them initially ..... As for the SGP it was pretty dull for the most part - too slick. Apart from a few heats and when Gollob was it was pretty processional. Gollob was superb gave some excellent entertainment as only he knows how too ..... You may as well hand Nicki Pedersen the World Title now because nobody can get close to him,he is just to consistent. Both ruined their chances of victory as they tried to take care of each other on the first corner. nicholls did well to make the final and used his head well when finishing second in the semi final. Especially considering the way he started and then hit the speedway equivalent of the wall. I have no problems with Hancock giving it the "Monster" scenario and fair play to him for making the most of the final. No doubt IMG will curtail the monster sponsorship plugs unless they are looking to tap them as a major sponsor for next year :-))))))) Nothing would surprise me after they stopped stalls selling rider merchandise. Jenn
Won a fair amont of dollar last night as we looked at the odds and decided to go for a decent 12-1 each way as the meeting faves were simply too short odds! Get in Greg - I've never been a fan before(I was always a Billy Hamill girl) but last night was yelling at the tv when he made the gate in the final!! As a Crump fan - even i have to admit that there is no doubting who the rightful champion is this year - cant argue with 9 finals and at least 3rd in every GP. Congratulations Mr Ped.......Enjoy as Crumpy will be back next year!!
Pirate Nick
Just watching the Grand Prix Challenge on the Internet. Guess what theres Polish people speaking Polish on here too. Whats the world coming to?
johnno4
Great performance from Scotty last night, could see he was really trying just got shoved aside on the first bend. Its a pity our lads don't play the same game. As for this Subedei guy its obvious he's not a Brit, an illegal immigrant out the back of a truck on the M1 I expect. Sky Blue Bee
What a disappointing final with grinning mug Hancock stealing it. Never mind. Pedersen sews it up in two weeks time and Gollob entertained all the way. Have to agree and Gollob should have gone from
Seb the Snail
Pretty uninspiring stuff last night, especially at the start of the meeting, when it was just a case of "follow the leader" once they had sorted themselves out in the first and second bends. It did get better later on, and Gollob was clearly different gravy all night, but it wasn't a vintage Bydgoszcz meeting by any means. Another semi-final exit for Adams; his GP series has been a succession of nights like this . So frustrating. Oh, and well done to Greg on his win, but I still want to stick that infernal drinks can somewhere that would wipe the cheesy grin off his face. Rather bizarre that the GP winner was outscored by 2 of the riders that he beat in the final too.
