barrow boy
Though if it were working from a rider-centric system, it's quite easy to work through. Riders come through the system without any transfers applying, though compensation could be paid for time, effort and cost involved in training and developing the riders concerned. That should incentivise PL teams to develop riders effectively and not stand in the way of their career development. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> One of my other hobbys is being a National Amateur Swimming Official and in their set up they allow swimmers to be members of more than one club. Normally young swimmers would join a small local club and if they are considered to be good enough they are encouraged to also join a club in a higher standard of competiton. They are however allowed to compete for both clubs but with the higher standard club being allowed first claim on their services. Usually all parties agree the terms of such an arrangement, details of which are closely observed by the respective leagues. Eventually the lower standard clubs lose such swimmers but they accept this as being in not only the swimmers, but the sports bests interests for this type of pyramid progression to the top to be encouraged. AndyM
Hmmm... you've hit the nail on the head. Which will be the first to make a concession for the good of the sport...without the other clubs laughing at them and taking advantage? TonyM
Wouldn't need a brave club if the BSPA adopted it at the next AGM, yes to a certain extent there would be an initial free for all but it could be argued that to a degree it is only extending the doubling up rules ie allowing a rider who could not secure a 1-7 EL berth to force his way in by good performances in the PL whilst the rider he replaced, if not injured would probably get some rides in the lower league (if he was not riding there already) The end result of all this would probably be a better squad system in the EL with all but the top riders (essentially those with overseas commitments) having a PL squad place as well Could then increase the points limit for EL then to a higher figure without a resulting hike in wage demands as the top PL riders would essentially all be available for EL squads to create competition but equally would be able to accept less as it would be a supplement to their PL earnings not their sole source of income Personally I think this would work better with a smaller EL, larger PL but perhaps thats a bit off topic
