Anders
PREVIEW OF SWEDISH ELITSERIEN ROUND 18 Tuesday September 2nd 2008 CURRENT STANDING: 1. Lejonen, 17, 12-0-5, 8/8, 32p (+122) 2. Dackarna, 17, 11-0-6, 6/8, 28p (+97) 3. Elit Vetlanda, 17, 10-0-7, 7/8, 27p (+93) 4. Rospiggarna, 17, 10-1-6, 5/8, 26p (+10) 5. Piraterna, 17, 10-0-7, 4/8, 24p (+26) 6. Indianerna, 17, 7-1-9, 4/8, 19p (+17) -------------------------------------------------------------- 7. Västervik, 17, 7-0-10, 3/8, 17p (+17) 8. Hammarby, 17, 7-0-10, 2/8, 16p (-74) 9. MasarnaAvesta, 17, 5-0-12, 1/8, 11p (-165) -------------------------------------------------------------- 10. Smederna, 17, 5-0-12, 0/8, 10p (-143) *-*-* VÄSTERVIK - PIRATERNA TV-Meeting at Sparbanken Arena Västervik All or nothing? That's the question for Västervik as they host Piraterna. Västervik must win to have a chance to reach the Play Off, a tie won't help them at all. The home side have some problems with their line-up as Niels-Kristian Iversen, Grigorijs Laguta and Mads Korneliussen are missing due to injuries. Billy Forsberg will move to the main body of the team so there's a new pairing at reserve with the Johansson/KorneliussenWright partnership. Track specialist Robert Johansson, now with partner team Vargarna, actually makes his season debut for Västervik. With the changes made for Västervik, it's not for certain that they have the strength to beat Piraterna, even though the Pirates have nothing to ride for. Västervik was one of the main favourites before the season but have struggled after several injuries, and could miss Play Off. They should be desperate for the win, and Canal+ have opted for an interesting one this round. Västervik (home) (47) 1. Billy Forsberg 2. Bjarne Pedersen 3. Grigorijs Laguta Tomasz Chrzanowski 4. Chris Harris 5. Tomasz Gollob 6. Robert Johansson 7. Tomasz Chrzanowski Mads Korneliussen James Wright ( 8. Jonas Andersson ) Piraterna (away) 0 (49) 1. Robert Kosciecha 2. Damian Balinski 3. Grzegorz Walasek 4. Rafal Okoniewski 5. Ryan Sullivan 6. Mikael Max 7. Linus Sundström ( 8. - ) *-*-* MASARNAAVESTA - DACKARNA at Arena Avesta The home side are one point ahead of Smederna in the bottom of the standing, but MasarnaAvesta have a tough task on Tuesday night as they host champions Dackarna. Simon Stead is missing but otherwise they bolster the best possible line-up, just as Dackarna by the way. Lukas Dryml, with only 9 points in 5 away meetings during the season, have been scratched and replaced by Troy Batchelor. Dackarna's main body of the team will always give them a chance to win meetings, in Avesta as well. MasarnaAvesta (home) 0 (36) 1. Kenneth Bjerre 2. Dave Watt 3. Emil Sajfutdinov 4. Sebastian Aldén 5. Leigh Adams 6. Pawel Miesiac 7. Pontus Aspgren ( 8. Dennis Andersson ) Dackarna (away) 0 (60) 1. Hans Andersen 2. Troy Batchelor 3. Fredrik Lindgren 4. Peter Karlsson 5. Andreas Jonsson 6. Ludvig Lindgren 7. Christian Isomettä ( 8. Christian Agö ) *-*-* LEJONEN - ROSPIGGARNA at Axelent Arena, Gislaved Of the five meetings in round 18, the meeting at Axelent Arena is probably the one with least interest. The Lions, lead by Nicki Pedersen, have already secured the league win and will face the 6th seed in the quarterfinal stages. Rospiggarna have also qualified for the Play Off, thankfully, as they won't get anything from tonight's meeting, especially without the injured Adam Shields. Lejonen (home) 0 (46) 1. Nicki Pedersen 2. Tomasz Jedrzejak 3. Chris Holder 4. David Ruud 5. Piotr Swiderski 6. Sebastian Ulamek 7. Ricky Kling ( 8. Robert Pettersson ) Rospiggarna (away) 0 (50) 1. Greg Hancock 2. Charlie Gjedde 3. Janusz Kolodziej 4. Chris Slabon 5. Adam Shields R/R 6. Lubos Tomicek 7. Andreas Messing ( 8. - ) *-*-* SMEDERNA - HAMMARBY at Smedstadion, Eskilstuna In Eskilstuna, the home side have their backs against the wall and must win to have a chance to avoid relegation. Thankfully for them, Smederna won in Stockholm earlier this season and probably will avoid relegation by winning tonight as MasarnaAvesta have a huge mountain to climb to take all points off Dackarna in their meeting. Hammarby have nothing to ride for, so the question is if they can mobilise enough spirit to push Smederna for the win? Don't think so. Smederna (home) 0 (49) 1. Daniel King 2. Robert Miskowiak 3. Krzysztof Kasprzak 4. Krzysztof Buczkowski 5. Wieslaw Jagus 6. Rory Schlein 7. Linus Eklöf ( 8. Daniel Henderson ) Hammarby (away) 0 (47) 1. Martin Smolinski 2. Rafal Dobrucki 3. Tomasz Gapinski 4. Renat Gafurov 5. Matej Zagar 6. Freddie Eriksson 7. Kim Nilsson ( 8. - ) *-*-* ELIT VETLANDA - INDIANERNA at Vetlanda Motorstadion In Vetlanda, the Indians have much to ride for as they'll try to defend their place among the top six. They haven't been particulary strong visitors to the Vetlanda track in previous seasons so they'll probably need to rely on Piraterna to keep their position in the standing. Elit Vetlanda are missing Peter Ljung due to a swollen hand after a fall in an Allsvenskan meeting last week, and Karol Zabik as well, so Ales Dryml are taking a place in the main body of the team with Daniel Davidsson stepping in at reserve. Elit Vetlanda (home) 0 (42) 1. Ales Dryml 2. Lee Richardson 3. Jaroslaw Hampel 4. Thomas H Jonasson 5. Jason Crump 6. Morten Risager 7. Daniel Davidsson ( 8. Robin Aspegren ) Indianerna (away) 0 (54) 1. Magnus Zetterström 2. Adrian Miedzinski 3. Matej Ferjan 4. Jesper B Monberg 5. Piotr Protasiewicz 6. Henrik Gustafsson 7. Simon Gustafsson ( 8. - ) All meetings can be followed live on www.speedway.nu from 19:00 Swedish time.
Ghostwalker
about avoiding relegation: If Masarna wins with 61-35 or more Masarna stays. If Masarna wins and Smederna only manage a draw or looses Masarna stays. If Masarna looses and Smederna looses with 47-49 but wins the race off for the bonus points Smederna stays. If Masarna wins with less then 60-36 and Smederna wins Smederna stays. If Masarna ties or looses and Smederna ties or wins Smederna stays. Smederna has a better rider point difference which will be decisive in Smederna's favour if Smederna and Masarna ends up on the same amount of team points. schumi
Hammarby have nothing to ride for, so the question is if they can mobilise enough spirit to push Smederna for the win? Don't think so. Looks like Scott Nicholls has mobilised something anyway. He's apparently riding tonight, although Dobrucki's still injured. Liverstam
What happened to Hans and Troy? Andersen was probably saved to save a few pennies, and Batchelor missed his flight! (Which means he has not ridden enough in Sweden this year to get an official average, which could prove detrimental for him for next season as regards to Sweden). Anders
SWEDISH ELITSERIEN ROUND 18 Tuesday September 2nd 2008 VÄSTERVIK - PIRATERNA 45-51 (Aggregate: 92-100) Attendence: 2379 Västervik had to win to have a chance to reach the Play Off, but Piraterna provided too much opposition. An injury-plagued Västervik only lead once and had to work from behind during most of the night, but when Kosciecha and Okoniewski recorded a 4-2 in the first nomination heat, Västervik's chances were totally gone. Heat details, courtesy of www.speedway.nu. Västervik 45 (92): Billy Forsberg 4/4, Bjarne Pedersen 12+2/6, Tomasz Chrzanowski 0/3, Chris Harris 7/5, Tomasz Gollob 13+1/5, Robert Johansson 3/4, James Wright 6+1/5, Jonas Andersson 0/0 Piraterna 51 (100): Robert Kosciecha 9+2/5, Damian Balinski 7/5, Grzegorz Walasek 6/4, Rafal Okoniewski 7+1/5, Ryan Sullivan 12/5, Mikael Max 7/4, Linus Sundström 3+2/4 *-*-* MASARNAAVESTA - DACKARNA 43-52 (Aggregate: 79-112) Attendence: 1782 At Arena Avesta, the home crowd had to witness their last Elitserien meeting for at least one season, as Dackarna - without Hans Andersen and Troy Batchelor - won by nine points. A 26-28 score turned into a 30-42 in only three heats, and the home side couldn't recover. Polish junior Grzegorz Zengota made his Elitserien debut, at his former Allsvenskan track, and scored well. Surely he must have the advantage over Lukas Dryml for the upcoming Play Off. Dryml has scored 9 points in 5 meetings away from home, Zengota managed that in 5 heats... Heat details, courtesy of www.speedway.nu. MasarnaAvesta 43 (79): Kenneth Bjerre 2/3, Dave Watt 5+1/4, Emil Sajfutdinov 9/6, Sebastian Aldén 8+1/5, Leigh Adams 10/5, Pawel Miesiac 5+1/5, Pontus Aspgren 2/1, Dennis Andersson 2+1/3 Dackarna 52 (112): Niklas Klingberg 2+1/4, Grzegorz Zengota 9+1/5, Fredrik Lindgren 11+2/5, Peter Karlsson 13+1/5, Andreas Jonsson 7/5, Ludvig Lindgren 7+2/5, Christian Isomettä 3/3 *-*-* SMEDERNA - HAMMARBY 49-47 (Aggregate: 98-94) Attendence: 1948 As MasarnaAvesta lost, Smederna took full advantage to beat Hammarby and stay in Elitserien for another season. It was a close fight at Smedstadion with no team being able to make a tactical substitution during the meeting. Smederna took the lead for the first team in heat 13 and then secured the bonus point, and the Elitserien status, in the first nomination heat as Krzysztof Buczkowski took the checkered flag first. Heat details, courtesy of www.speedway.nu. Smederna 49 (98): Daniel King 7/5, Robert Miskowiak 7/4, Krzysztof Kasprzak 9+2/5, Krzyztof Buczkowski 9+2/5, Wieslaw Jagus 11/5, Rory Schlein 4/4, Linus Eklöf 2+2/4 Hammarby 47 (94): Scott Nicholls 7/6, Rafal Dobrucki R/R, Tomasz Gapinski 7+3/6, Renat Gafurov 15/6, Matej Zagar 8+1/6, Martin Smolinski 5/4, Kim Nilsson 5+1/4 *-*-* LEJONEN - ROSPIGGARNA 58-38 (Aggregate: 102-88) Attendence: 2461 Rospiggarna, without the injured Adam Shields and Lubos Tomciek (sick), actually took the lead at Axelent Arena but Lejonen quickly turned it around to a 19-11 lead. The away team lacked any strength in depth and had it not been for Greg Hancock, this would have been a trashing, at least more than it turned out to be... Heat details, courtesy of www.speedway.nu. Lejonen 58 (102): Nicki Pedersen 10/5, Tomasz Jedrzejak 5+1/4, Chris Holder 10+1/5, David Ruud 9+3/5, Piotr Swiderski 8+1/4, Sebastian Ulamek 6+4/4, Ricky Kling 9+1/4, Robert Pettersson 0/1 Rospiggarna 38 (88): Greg Hancock 20+1/7, Charlie Gjedde 2/5, Janusz Kolodziej 10/7, Chris Slabon 3/4, Adam Shields R/R, Jens Oskarsson 0/3, Andreas Messing 3/6 *-*-* ELIT VETLANDA - INDIANERNA 60-36 (Aggregate: 102-90) Attendence: 2384 The Indians started the meeting well to win three of the five opening heats, but when Thomas H Jonasson and Lee Richardson made a pass each in heats 6 & 7 to win the respective heats, Elit Vetlanda took the command. Indianerna kept it fairly close (36-30) for 11 heats but had no chance against a powerful home side, without Peter Ljung, in the remaning heats which ended in a massive 24-6 score. As Piraterna beat Västervik away, the score in Vetlanda didn't matter for Indianerna who still entered the Play Off as the 6th placed team. Heat details, courtesy of www.speedway.nu. Elit Vetlanda 60 (102) 1. Ales Dryml 2*-1-1-1 = 5+1 (4) 2. Lee Richardson 3-2-3-3-2* = 13+1 (5) 3. Jaroslaw Hampel 2-1-3-2*-3 = 11+1 (5) 4. Thomas H Jonasson 1*-3-2*-3-2* = 11+3 (5) 5. Adrian Miedzinski 0-2-2-X-1 = 5 (5) 3. Matej Ferjan 3-0-3-1-0-Ef = 7 (6) 4. Jesper B Monberg 0-3-2-0-0-0 = 5 (6) 5. Piotr Protasiewicz 3-1-2*-1-2-1 = 10+1 (6) 6. Henrik Gustafsson 2-1-0-N-2 = 5 (4) 7. Simon Gustafsson 1*-N-N-1* = 2+2 (2) 8. - For Elit Vetlanda, Dryml can score somewhat in the main body even nowadays, he scored in every heat so I guess that's OK. Richardson has had a good season in Sweden and didn't disappoint. Hampel started slow but got going. Jonasson is fantactic! He's take the step up in the main body and obviously intends to stay there. Crump delivers, as always. Risager won both reserve riders' heats so did his job. Davidsson looked slow. Had positions throughout the meeting but got passed. Aspegren rode a good one when he rode in heat 9. For Indianerna, Zetterström, the Swedish champion, didn't do anything this time. Miedzinski was usually in the mix and deserved more. Ferjan is one of the most extreme hot-and-cold riders out there, dead last at times but even won a heat by half a straight. Monberg is usually very good in Vetlanda but pulled a magical trick and disappear in his second half. Protasiewicz was, as the score suggest, the pick of the away team. He tried hard throughtout the meeting. (Henrik) Gustafsson was OK. (Simon) Gustafsson did what could be expected in only two rides. Man of the match: Thomas H Jonasson Most exciting rider: Thomas H Jonasson *-*-* FINAL STANDING: 1. Lejonen, 18, 13-0-5, 9/9, 35p (+142) 2. Dackarna, 18, 12-0-6, 7/9, 31p (+106) 3.
