arnieg
Although previously announced as October 19 it looks like the date may be moved forward. (If it rains on 19th there would be no opportunity to restage it). So just a word of warning to anyone making advanced plans based on the previously announced date. Nutty Tart
The chances of getting any information from the marketing team are pretty slim- they've not done too well so far this year with giving out information. So I won't hold my breath
Wackie
Would like to see the TR go at that meeting. I wouldn't, that TR belongs to one man & one man only. Tis the 19th after all Press Release FINAL MEETING CONFIRMED THE date of the last-ever speedway meeting at Smallmead Stadium has been confirmed, with the special End-of-an-Era event set to take place on Sunday 19 October, starting at 6.00 p.m. To be honest, I'm dreading it but I hope the meeting does the club & it's fantastic history at Smallmead proud. The chances of getting any information from the marketing team are pretty slim- they've not done too well so far this year with giving out information. So I won't hold my breath FFS, we're about to lose our home & unless a fairy godmother steps in with a spare couple of million quid our club & all you can do is have a pop at the back room team. nigelb
So will it be Reading riders past and present only - and if so, who could be riding (if money, egos, Bulldogs riders as racers, and the like were put to one side for one last great night), and accepting that injured riders will attend but not ride. Well the existing team, plus.. Herbie? Boogaloo, Matej, Janeusz, Bunny, Sicknote, Trav, Todd, Jooonas, Cheddarman - actually its easier just to look up the list of riders at the back of Arnie's book - so plenty to choose from! Be great to have some greats from past decades riding for one more time against each other as well....but please make sure everyone actually has ridden for Reading!! What about 4 team tournament? Racers EL v PL v Robins v Cheetahs (assuming we have at least 4 riders who have ridden for swindon and Oxford? we must have!

Racers EL v PL v Robins v Cheetahs (assuming we have at least 4 riders who have ridden for swindon and Oxford? we must have! Charlie and Jonas can ride for any fo them teams Travis can ride for 3 of them. Oxford could be any from Charlie, Greg, Travis, Tommy P, Mills, Todd (would he come back for one more meeting?), Lemo, Glenn Cunningham (is he fit?), Jonas or Andy Smith Swindon can be Charlie, Travis, Peter Ljung, Glenn Cunningham, Ulrich, Jonas, Andy Smith or Lee Richardson. That just off the top of my head possibilities, so theres a few.

Latest Press Release (note that this confirms that there will be at least one further meeting at Smallmead before the end of era meeting - ie The Young Shield) There does seem a big gap between the last programmed meeting (the Sidecars on 15/9) and this big final meeting event (with just, what, one Young Shield match to arrange..); and as you said before, 19/10 is risking it somewhat with the weather.. Any idea why this meeting isn't to be staged a little earlier in October..??

Pretty obvious-young shield cannot start before october-cut-off isnt till late september.if the team decide to pull their fingers out there is quarter, semi and final to consider before you can run the last meeting-the end of era meeting. Well yes, but IF Reading were to reach the Final (bearing in mind that it takes two teams to arrange a Final) would there not then be a chance of this not being able to be arranged by or for October 12th...?? That's early if you say that the Young Shield can't start until the beginning of October.. Indeed, if we go by that there actually wouldn't be space for a Final at Smallmead BEFORE the End of Era meeting..
Wackie
I believe both the Speedway & the dogs have to be out of Smallmead by 22nd October. The end of era meeting is a final farewell to Smallmead. Wouldn't really have the same effect if it was the end of era - bar possibly one or two others - meeting really. Wackie is right, the whole point of having a final meeting, is that it is the final meeting. We can hardly publicise it as that, then invite a load of legends down, have the final 4 laps and then still have 2-3 more meetings in the weeks afterwards.
