DutchGrasstrack
Good score from Johnny Tuinstra . Any info about the Polish nomination? Is it possible that the Polish Federation select Grzegorz Knapp (if he's fit) for the GP's? As he's quite the best Pole, might be able to score a few points, the others will realy struggle I guess . There were 5+1 going through from the other two and Sanok should see 6 get a place in the GP.
Conkers
From where is this nomination info originating? I went through my FIM emails and riders allocation sheets and found nothing! There were 5+1 going through from the other two and Sanok should see 6 get a place in the GP. Christian Weber wrote in Speedway Star on 17.1.09, "Only the top four from this [saalfelden] meeting are certain of a place in the finals, while the fifth has to wait until all three qualifiers are completed to learn if a rider from each of the nations that host either a qualifier or a final round, has made it through. If not, the fifth placed rider will lose his qualifying spot in favour of a seeded rider from the host nations." I'm sure I read somewhere that this would happen when the fixtures were finally confirmed. So if this is correct, Poland will get a slot in the Finals, as will the Netherlands if neither country has a rider in the top 5/6. If you remember, they did it last year with Johnny Tuinstra when the KNMV had no representative, so they have set a precedent and the PZM could argue that they staged a QR, so they get a seeded rider. But can they give it to Knapp if he hasn't ridden in a qualifying round? Otherwise they'll have a rider who is half a lap behind the rest whenever he races, as their choice may not be as experienced as Knapp.
Jacqueline
@f-s-p If you look on the FIM rules for Iceracing you can find the following information: "...Each FMNR of an Ice Racing World Championship meeting (Qualifying Rounds, and Finals) is guaranteed at least one rider from its Federation in this meeting and in all Finals. ...." So also Poland will have a guarenteed place. @Ian There is no extra rule that the Federation only could seed a rider, who has taken part at the QR rounds, so I think they could seed any rider they want. OK, thanks. EDIT: I'm told Poland wont use their slot since Knapp is injured but there's still the NL slot to be seen during tonight. They've just started so a couple of hours still to go for us to know. Edited January 26, 2009 by f-s-p

Conkers
If that is the case, I make the 18 riders for the Finals are: Franz Zorn (A) Harald Simon (A) Marcus Skabraut (A) (Res) Antonin Klatovsky (CzR) Gunter Bauer (D) Johnny Tuinstra (NL) Danil Ivanov (Rus) Dmitri Khomitsevich (Rus) Ivan Ivanov (Rus) Nikolai Krasnikov (Rus) Pavel Tschajka (Rus) Vitali Khomitsevich (Rus) Yunir Bazeev (Rus) Per-Olof Serenius (S) Stefan Svensson (S) Antti Aakko (SF) Kai Lehtinen (SF) Tommy Flyktman (SF) (res) Edit after checking Speedway.org However, if the Poles do take their seeded spot then I think Lehtinen will be reserve and one of the other reserves will be out. f-s-p
I think the Poles gave the seeded place back as they've just runned a run-off for the 6th place . Leaving the rerun undone would have been the mother of all cöckups no matter what the poles would have wanted to do. But now the ballot is out and Finland has 2+1 riders in it. I think this was pretty huge from Lehtinen . Aakko has been in it for ages and has peaked already and Flyktman somehow seems to be gathering pace at the moment... DutchGrasstrack
Very, very bad news for The Netherlands in the Team Championship in Inzell this weekend.... Johnny Tuinstra has pulled out . He hit a wild pig during his trip to Sanok (Poland) and his van was quite damaged. At the moment he is still somewhere in Poland and he hope to be back home tonight. This means he has way to less time to get to get his bikes and van ready for Inzell. Any info yet on the European Championship..?

There's no line up I can find for the weekend, but there are no Dutch riders shown in the listing on Speedway.org. (mind you they have been wrong before). As for the replacement for JT, Rene Verhoef is the obvious choice, unless they want to take a chance on Van Der Steen? Or you could try and coax Bootsma out of retirement Or would Thijs be free
Jacqueline
Until today the FIM has not send any more press release for Inzell which includes a change of Team Netherlands, maybe tomorrow we`ll receive an e-mail.....
