arthur cross
For Buck Rogers (or anyone else supporting the Isle of Wight) to whinge that they didn't know until Thursday night about racing at Berwick is totally ridiculous. All the other 3 Young Shield quarter-finals were completed before the Isle of Wight and Sheffield even began their quarter-final on Tuesday evening ... Berwick qualified last Saturday, then Workington on Sunday and Redcar on Monday (the latter two despite each being delayed a day by a rain-off). As top seeds getting a choice of semi-final opponents, Workington appear to have always made it clear their first choice was Sheffield and their second choice (if Isle of Wight eliminated Sheffield) was Redcar so that Workington were guaranteed their away leg on Thursday-16th (just awaiting whether it would be at Owlerton or South Tees) and their home leg on Saturday-18th (Sat-11th already claimed by their leg of the KO Cup Final with Somerset). Hence before the first leg started at Smallbrook last Tuesday, the semi-finals pairings were already settled pending the outcome between Isle of Wight and Sheffield (and no problems with their weather for either leg) ... either Worky-Sheff & Berw-Redc or Worky-Redc & Berw-I'Wight. What's more, a few hours before that Smallbrook meeting, Redcar provisionally confirmed they would meet Berwick on Sat-11th & Thurs-16th if they ended up in the same semi-final. Maybe Buck Rogers could explain what the Isle of Wight were doing early last week while all these sensible bits of forward planning were being done by Workington, Berwick and Redcar ? screm
The Long Track event is an FIM qualifier and has priority over the JY Shield. Workington were always going to race their next leg on the 18th, Sheffield/Redcar/Berwick/IOW in that order. If Berwick and Workington get through you will be cancelling an end of season do as well! If the event in France is a FIM recognised meeting then IOW would have been allowed guests under the rules. We had a similar situation couple of weeks ago when two of our riders were away racing in the Euro Pairs. Good news if Doyle is one of our guests on tuesday,we should also get a guest for Tamas Sike.
