Trees
How do you think our Olympians have done so well over the recent years...investment in training and coaching and financing. Where did that money come from then? I'd agree with the SKY money going to training but the EL promoters would have to cut their cloths accordingly and that wouldn't go down too well with the EL fans or riders now would it?? PolskiZuzel
Where's the investment coming from then, first they need millions of pounds each to buy their stadiums, so they're finished before they start! Why should they be buying 'their' stadiums? As far as I know, speedway stadiums in Poland are not owned by the speedway clubs. If anything they are owned by city authorities. Bydgoszcz "Polonia" speedway club is not rich enough to own the stadium, or to stage the annual GP event there. It's the Bydgoszcz city authorities who pump the money, getting in return (as they see it) publicity for the town. Try this with Ipswich, Reading, etc. Find a sponsor like a British Petroleum, Gulf, Coke, etc., anybody of similar statute. Create publicity around speedway, make it exciting for those who never heard of speedway. Don't kill it slowly by choping and changing its own rules. It can be done, why not in Britain? regards Polski Zuzel
Subedei
I am resigned to speedway dying in this country. It's too far gone. The radical surgery that might save it stands as much chance of killing it.
Trees
If anything they are owned by city authorities. Do you know who owns most of the british speedway stadiums? It's the Bydgoszcz city authorities who pump the money Do you know that british town and city authorities pump NOTHING in our speedway clubs? Try this with Ipswich, Reading, etc. Find a sponsor like a British Petroleum, Gulf, Coke, etc., anybody of similar statute. Do you not think the promoters have tried this, do you really think these sort of companies would sponsor a relatively small speedway club with 1500-2000 fans? Don't kill it slowly by choping and changing its own rules. The rules keep changing because of the poor situation of the sport over here, if british speedway was in the same circumstances as Polish Speedway there would be no need to chop and change to try to even out teams etc etc ................ Correct me, if I'm wrong, British speedway stadium are mostly owned by GRA ( the British Greyhound Racing Association ) Yes, I do know, that British town and city authorities pump NOTHING in your speedway clubs. BUT, perhaps SOMEONE should try to persuade them - at least - to do that. After all, who 10 years ago heard about Bydgoszcz, or in the last few years about Czestochowa, Zielona Gora, etc. I'm not sure whether promotors have tried, particularly recently. I remember the days when there was the Gulf British League, etc. OK, you have now Sky Sports Elite League, but where do all that sponsoring money go? How much of it finds its way do each and every British club? Rules changing is not only happening in Britain. Those in authority think that by doing this they improve the sport. I think is other way round. What people want is clear cut set up, with no rider replacements, no 'golden reserve', 'jokers' etc. Would you accept in football a rule which says that because the other team are three up you can have a penalty shot? I bet you wouldn't. The same in speedway. Newcomers, if they get persuaded by someone to come and watch speedway can't get their heads round thinking how stupid speedway rules are. Subedei
Correct me, if I'm wrong, British speedway stadium are mostly owned by GRA ( the British Greyhound Racing Association ) I think the GRA only own 3-4 current speedway stadiums. Ghostwalker
i dont know if its 100% certain yet but Riders Replacement will most likely not be allowed in Swedish league speedway next season.

You'd have to be a charity or suchlike to get help. OK, you have now Sky Sports Elite League, but where do all that sponsoring money go? How much of it finds its way do each and every British club? I guess Terry Russell still takes a cut out of the SKY money but he also puts some of it back I think, how much each club gets I know not but they do gain from it, the EL clubs at least. TwoMinuteWarning
I think most of the Sky TV money ends up in the pockets of the top riders. And without the top riders, there wouldnt be Sky TV coverage And without Sky TV coverage, the top riders wouldn't be here, and so therefore nor would the Elite League. Well, that's the way I see it, anyway.

TwoMinuteWarning
My opinion, Trees, formed after hearing a loud discussion involving BSPA members last year. I don't find it at all surprising, Sky usually go for the top sportsmen in any sport
