Anders
The Swedes had a Premier League rider in and no disrespect to Peter Ljung but hes not an Elite Leaguer. Â So.....how on earth could Britain lose to a team like that? Â BTW, isn't Woffinden a Premier League rider?
Deano4265
that's being a bit too criticial/harsh on the team. - it wasn't all bad... We qualified then did we - Apart from Tai it was bad - Maybe he should have taken all of Richardsons rides as he certainly didn't warrant being there. Liverstam
So.....how on earth could Britain lose to a team like that? Â BTW, isn't Woffinden a Premier League rider? Â Yes, Daniel Nermark is a PL rider. He is also a much better rider than 2/3 of all the riders in the EL. Â Â EDIT: Hmm... I meant to quote Down in the parks post, not yours Anders. MARK246
The Swedes had a Premier League rider in and no disrespect to Peter Ljung but hes not an Elite Leaguer. Also we were told by the opinionated Pearson ' the Poles will struggle on the tight bends of Vojens ' Excuse me ?? Grand Prix riders getting beaten [ easily ] by Premier League riders and Continental riders who dont even ride EL, PL, and im not certain of the Russians pedegree on Polish and Swedish League racing but Harris and Nicholls shouldnt be losing to them. Restored Pride in Pearsons words ?, but for me we came a distant 3rd in a 3 horse race. Tai was a shining bright spot though. Â The Russians and the "lesser" Poles in the Elitserien do regularly beat the British riders. Having changed from watching British to watching Swedish speedway, my opinion of these "ex eastern block" riders has changed they are good entertainment, good riders and always improving. The young Germans coming through are also riding well, Hefenbrock at Kumla was drafted in to replace Kennett. From what I have seen in the leagues here, the British have fallen way behind with developing their young talent. The big problem with Britain is it's no longer needed to develop a rider, only as a place to earn money between continental bookings. Subedei
So.....how on earth could Britain lose to a team like that? Â BTW, isn't Woffinden a Premier League rider? Â What you have to understand, young Anders, is that the chauvinists among British speedway supporters just dismiss riders they don't really know. So they're constantly left frothing at the mouth when the likes of Ljung and Jagus perform well against their home-grown super-heroes like the global superstar. And that in a much tougher environment than in the BEL? Â No, of course they don't. Only British speedway counts. The other stuff is just Mickey Mouse. And that's why the sport in this country is on it's knees. Too many people think Britain is still the be all and end all. They're like the old imperialists who failed to understand that Britain was no longer such a big deal on the global stage after World War II. Anders
EDIT: Hmm... I meant to quote Down in the parks post, not yours Anders. I somehow cocked it up  Ah, things happen.  Interesting thread this one, I'll scroll through it all to find some "fantastic" quotes that are out of this world, copy them to my computer and then bring them up whenever I need a good laughter. Can't believe some of the post/quotes being made on this thread.  What you have to understand, young Anders, is that the chauvinists among British speedway supporters just dismiss riders they don't really know. So they're constantly left frothing at the mouth when the likes of Ljung and Jagus perform well against their home-grown super-heroes like the global superstar.  Guess I haven't learned that yet.  But don't they follow the results from Poland and Sweden and realise it's no coincidence the likes of Jagus and Ljung do well? And that in a much tougher environment than in the BEL?  Looks like some posters think that the world of speedway ends at the British border. Jonas Davidsson is up and down like a barmaids knickers (I am sure Shaz will appreicate that one) yet when it comes to riding for their Country they can perform better, I know that Poland provide engines to their riders for these occasions (or they did last year) do Sweden have a similar input ? If theres a new rising star he's to be knocked on the forum if he signs for another team. Im allright Jack f--- you. The football supporter mentality. shazzybird
As the Aussies have got through to the final, I wonder if he's regretting deciding to be a Brit? Â Why's that BA??? as it's been pointed out on numerous occassions the last time England/TEAM GB won anything was a fair few years ago and when our last World Champion was, maybe Tai considers himself the future of British Speedway rather than another Aussie World Team Cup winner or following in Jason Crumps tyre tracks as World Champion. He's not exactly made the decision blindfolded has he, he knows he has his work cut out. Â I wish everyone would shut up about the commentators. Â How funny was it though on our way to a British heat win, the silence from the commentry team was deafening gobsmacked I think the word was

Trees
From what I have seen in the leagues here, the British have fallen way behind with developing their young talent. Our youngsters will never be on a par with Sweden, Denmark and Poland because we just don't have the facilities they do, our speedway clubs are now council owned, our youngsters can't practice when they like, seemingly for nothing, what do we expect??? We are on the back foot all the time. Â What we need is for junior grasstrack to take off again big time cos it relatively cheap and gives the kids a good grounding for speedway imo. stressed
Team GB were lets face it crap! and to say that the team has put some pride back is nonsence as well. Â Harris and young Tai Woffenden are the only two who can hold their heads up with pride, they got stuck in and were consistant. Â Nichols can and should of done much better, maybe it's also time for him to step aside and have Harris as Team GB skipper who isn't afraid to get stuck in, something missing from him in the interviews, lack of fire in the belly. Â Richardson is a disgrace and on the downward slope at this level, he should be replaced by young up and coming riders now to give them the experience Tai was given tonight, they will only get better from the experience. Â Kennet is lacking something, probably in his mental approach and until he can prove himself individually should be replaced or used if injuries hamper selection. Â Disgusted

I rather think it's the other way around. British riders abroad, without the aid of STA* aren't really competitive. The prospect of say Edward Kennett against the likes of Walasek or Nermark - outside britain - is a no contest for Polish or Swedish fans. He's not exactly made the decision blindfolded has he, he knows he has his work cut out. Well if he makes it to be an english world champion he'll receive more plaudits from the british press than Jason did the aussie press! Jonas Davidsson is up and down like a barmaids knickers (I am sure Shaz will appreicate that one) yet when it comes to riding for their Country they can perform better, I know that Poland provide engines to their riders for these occasions (or they did last year) do Sweden have a similar input ? Does this tell us that he gives 100% effort when racing for his country but perhaps only 75% to racing in GB? Team GB were lets face it crap! and to say that the team has put some pride back is nonsence as well. Didn't expect much more really did you? It was a tall order for Tai and Eddie to come in there and race against vastly more experienced riders and come out on top every time which is what we needed to win the bleeding thing as well as the others doing it too. Richardson seemed low in confidence and speed, Scott failed to pull anything out of the bag, Harris certainly had his moments and rode a lot better but all in all just not enough. Never mind, there's always next year, we have a year to plan our 09 assault!  Noticed the crowd was poor, what a shame  Edited July 17, 2008 by Trees
