Chris
My opinion 21stCentury is they are both pooh. Give whatever stats you want, but they are both poor riders, who should have been nowhere near the team. Good to see the regular viewers at Coventry and their fans were made to look like plonkers by backing Cry baby and Stead for berths. The home track knowledge paid off nicely. srbramble
Yes. Using the stats on the KanDysoft website I can tell you that his home EL GSA is 7.14 (CMA 7.71). Both figures are just a tad above those posted by Simon Stead. Readers may also be interested to note that Olly has recorded just five 4th place finishes in the home EL meetings (from 28 rides), and Simon Stead just one (from 31 rides). Although it should be noted he's generally been at number 5. All the Bees have finished 4th more often than Simon showing just what a dreadful meeting he had compared to what he can do around Brandon, and that the decision to include him wasn't the complete joke some think it was. If Olly can score 7 points per meeting around Brandon in the EL this season, I think 5 from a SWC meeting is about right for him. All the others scored below what would reasonably be expected from them. I'm not sure what you mean by your closing statement. I've just posted an opinion based on the facts. There will be plenty out there, who would have expected more from him, when you consider the advantage he had over many of the others. If, according to you, thats all we should expect from the likes of Allen and Stead, then, maybe we should all take a reality check, ignore the optimism of the team and their manager, and set our goal at a more realistic level, which, at the moment, is hopefully scraping through to the final. Seeing as you seem top be a stats man, and you've made a reference to his position in the Coventry side as a poor excuse, can you tell me, how many riders from the other nations competing, are riding at no5 for their respective league teams? srbramble
And while we are on the subject, I see that another british man, riding at no5 I believe, has a better average than Mr Allen. That man, being Eddie Kennett. My point is, that Allen was picked over Eddie, because of his home advantage, a fact, you seem to be ignoring. There was no optimism from Lynch, all he said before the meeting is that Denmark were favourites.
srbramble
There was no optimism from Lynch, all he said before the meeting is that Denmark were favourites. I expect that he was a little more optimistic of a better performance than they actually produced, and more optimistic of being able to produce a better performance also. And I think, he was one of the many, who thought that the Danes were favourites, and so, I am at a loss to understand why you feel it neccesary to highlight that particular part of my post. Deano4265
Having read through the posts i'm amazed @ how some of you think Olly rode well for team GB, sorry but t really was pooh, and his EL form along with Steads leaves alot to be desired. I'd like to know how the team was picked as it certainly wasn't on ability. All i can say is that it's a good job the 4th team wasn't Russia as we'd have been a laughing stock.
