martinmauger
The official pay rates in speedway have been relatively paltry for many years. Read somewhere, Ian Thomas' book Wheels and Deals I believe, that Thomas made more money in 1979 than Mauger did when Ivan won his last title. Mauger received £500 for merely winning the meeting but Thomas pocketed £600 for backing him to win. Gotta be a moral in there somewhere.... kingpin23699
When the GP's were brought in i thought i read somewhere that the riders would get £250 per point.
sandman
you are right.BUT i can tell you 100% that the longtrack guys get nowhere near that amount per GP and there engines tuning is FAR more expensive per meeting than the speedway guys i stand corrected.. but ya need to up yer appearance fee if that is the case. and.. all those comments i made about french peoples i didnt really mean. it was the drink that made me do it. personally, i could watch longtrack all day every day. it is the pinnacle of motorcycle racing in my opinion..(why do i want to go to hossegor & biarritz and hang out on the beach all of a sudden..topless women, thousands of em, thats why!) i think im gonna go check into the ol mercedes hotel for a week or two, yep.. Subedei
When the GP's were brought in i thought i read somewhere that the riders would get £250 per point. Okay, the maximum score is 24, so that would be £6,000. And the minimum score is, well, zero these days, which is £0.
falkirkbandit
I'd like to see Barry Hearn get involved somewhere, he's re-juvenated Darts and Snooker, maybe he could do the same with Speedway. That would be good, was it Barry that brought that darts tournament to ITV last year with players from both the PDC and the other one who's name escapes me at the mo? I've only got Freeview and will never subscribe to Sky just for speedway, or as was mentioned in a thread earlier in the year, Setanta could get involved!
